But it’s not until after that, that Twenty One Pilots finally show what material
their latest record is truly made of with the otherworldly refreshing ‘The
Outside’, which stuns with vibey, indie-inspired guitars and lands the ultimate
hit once we get to Joseph’s cool rap that takes the track to new heights.
Dripping with striking electronic guitars (a first for the duo, as Tyler taught
himself to play the guitar over the summer in 2020) and racing through a
meticulous mix of sounds and genres while drummer Josh hits the beats in just
the right ways, both songs serve as anthems of this new, poppy era. What follows
are the two previously released singles ‘Choker’ and ‘Shy Away’, which take a
step back in time and give a nod to the band’s first label outing ‘Vessel’ and
their earliest record ‘Regional At Best’. Written from within a headspace in
which singer Tyler, who solely penned every song on the album and produced most
of them in his home studio in Columbus, imagined himself losing his wife Jenna,
his one-year-old daughter Rosie as well as his job – “Lost my job, my wife and
child / Homie just sued me / Shoot my life in shoot-em-up style”. With birds
singing in the background, the nightmare dressed as a fairy tale in disguise,
represents a stage of grief the artist could see himself get stuck in – one
where he keeps telling himself and everyone around him that he is fine, that
everything happens for a reason, clearly being in denial of how he is falling
into pieces on the inside.

Unsurprisingly, the track embodies what Twenty One Pilots have expertly mastered
over the years – blissful instrumentals layered over dark, deeply personal
lyrics. While the record might sound lofty and bright at first, its opener, the
bouncy ‘Good Day’ takes it on itself to prove everyone wrong within the first
three minutes of the album’s runtime. But just like the album’s cover star, the
mega-dragon Trash, ‘Scaled And Icy’ has a lot more to tell than what first meets
the eyes and ears. Gone are the days of darkness, anxiety and emotional
distress, while a new era full of summery vibes and fun times has taken their
place. Bursting with gleeful guitar lines, happy beats from drumming powerhouse
Josh Dun, sweet ukulele strokes and singer Tyler Joseph’s sugary, haunting
vocals trailing every track like a sleek snake, ‘Scaled And Icy’ takes a leap
from the group’s previous releases. As an anagram for “Clancy is dead”, a
character that was introduced in ‘Trench’ – as well as the world of Dema and its
dark, devilish rulers, the Bishops, and the tireless group of fighters, the
Banditos (also considered as the fanbase) – ‘SAI’ is dripping with lore and new
details of a story that has kept TØP’s fans on their toes for years and is only
waiting to be unpacked.Īt a first glance, the Ohio-based duo’s sixth full-length
venture looks and sounds unlike anything the band has ever released into the
world before. What was once started in 2015 with their stellar album
‘Blurryface’ and then taken on and expanded in their high-concept record

and, looking at the surprisingly brightly pink and blue coloured exterior, also

loved for by their enormously dedicated fanbase the Clique, Twenty One Pilots
have made a name for themselves not just for their outstandingly well-crafted
musical outings, but also for their knack for creating stories and packing more
than just one hidden meaning into their albums and songs. In a world where
everything feels scaled back and isolated (pun intended), the band’s latest
hypnotic release ‘Scaled And Icy’ proves to be everything but. But if there is
one band that has never shied away from grand endeavours, it’s Twenty One
Pilots. And that gets especially difficult when a global pandemic puts just
about the whole music industry on hold and engulfs everyone in a state of sorrow
and dread.

goes on in the world, often times this is your childhood. Another thing about a

river or a stream. Isn't it true? The actual reality of the things that go on in
the world, murders, rapes, death, it can really bring you down if you
acknowledge them. They fall downwards, so life brings us down. Life is a

come from the chorus is that while propaganda is rampant, life goes on. However,
from the point of a listener, this may well mean again, the reference to the
"simple minded". The chorus is unrelated with the rest of the song: in an
interview with MTV, Daron stated that the song was written while he was actually
sitting in his car waiting for his girlfriend. The song's lyrics in the verses
reference the Tiananmen Square protests of 1989 and propaganda. At 1:53 in the
video a woman is seen flashing her boobs to a camera on the far right, the
exposure could have been unoticed or simply missed by the editing and it is

possibly be the pesticide referred to in the song Attack of the same album. The
beginning and ending of the video show a helicopter spraying red matter across

footage from one of the band's September 2005 concerts, (filmed at Van Andel
Arena in Grand Rapids, Michigan) but includes a CGI scene of painting along with
the music the audio is dubbed over with the studio track. The song leads up to a
massive crescendo, then ends with a repeated portion of the opening riff with
soft singing by Malakian. The Eastern-themed instrumental bridge contains at
least four overdubbed clean guitar tracks and a well-crafted, syncopated rhythm.
Musical discontinuities like this can be found all over the song and creates
heavily psychedelic tone. Even stranger is the minor-key bridge, which loyally
follows the chords expected from an F# minor song (F#m, D, Bm, E, A, and C#).
This produces a direct switch from a major key to the minor key of the same
name. The opening guitar riff and early verses use an upbeat melody that follows
the F# major scale, but with a flatted sixth (a D instead of a D#). It is
difficult to determine whether the key is F# minor or F# major. Musically,
"Hypnotize" is somewhat of an enigma. The combination of the two vocalists gives
the song a vocal range, with Serj handling the lower verses and Daron delivering
the high parts of the refrains. Serj and Daron perform a harmony in the refrain
before and after the instrumental bridge. As in many Mezmerize/Hypnotize songs,
guitarist Daron Malakian accompanies Serj Tankian in the vocal sections.

On the day on the service they helped us to set up everything the way we wanted
( I have never met such Beautiful, Caring, Compassionate and understanding
people) My family is small, only me and my two sons but we never felt alone they

Compassionate - explained the process and options of the vigil. With so much
empathy and compassion he explained and suggested options of dates and times of
the service and even gave me his personal number in case if I had questions I
could reach out to him personally ( I felt like if he was sent by my daughter to

Of course, at the ends, where the bracket meets, there is a recess for the rivet
and the Rex tool wouldn't work, so did it by hand. The Rex tool did neat job of
flattening the split rivet firmly. Oh yea, on past posts there was mention and
pics of using the 'Rex' rivet tool for trans band relining, well I went and got
one off eBay and had to test it outįitted split brass rivet into lining,
pre-drilled hole as this lining is too stiff to stick the rivet as with kevlar
or cotton. Using the old length of lining for a guide, marked where the new
lining should fit, leaves a gap at each end of the shoe, you don't want excess
material anywhere.Ĭut the new material to lengths with the bench jig saw. The
new lining overhangs a bit, so you grind that off as the last step. Shoes with
new Model A brake lining material. So to reline I got the Model A Ford new
emergency lining material, its tough with brass wire in the stiff material, fake
asbestos I guess But the lining is a tad too wide, so you have to modify. The
shoes had one piece of old lining, still stuck with the split rivet in the
material. So today I did the re-ling and took pics of the steps.

These are made of strap steel and have brake lining, better than the new repro
that have lined iron casting that don't fit good. Got an old accessory set of

wealth of knowledge and insight to his work, and his engaging style makes his
