Institute (NCI) supported <a href="/MediaLibraries/URMCMedia/cancer-center/professional-education/documents/T32-Poster-2023-w-URSCC-Logo.pdf" target="_blank">Cancer Control Research Training Program</a> at the University of Rochester
School of Medicine, located in the beautiful <a href="http://www.fingerlakes.org/" target="_blank">Finger Lakes Region</a> of upstate New York, is now in its 20<sup>th</sup> year and provides post-doctoral M.D. or Ph.D. researchers
with the knowledge and experience to establish careers as outstanding independent investigators in cancer control and prevention research.</p>
<p> </p>
<h2>Features of the program include:</h2>
<ul>
<li>An emphasis on transdisciplinary clinical and translational research and resources to take advantage of opportunities to conduct cancer control research both locally and nationally.</li>
<li>Exceptionally diverse research opportunities and professional guidance and mentorship provided by our NCI-funded
<a href="/MediaLibraries/URMCMedia/cancer-center/professional-education/documents/T32-Poster-2023-w-URSCC-Logo.pdf" target="_blank">Core Mentors and 15 other on-site mentors</a> who all hold competitively funded cancer-related research
grants. Mentorship opportunities are also provided by offsite mentors involved in the University of Rochester NCI-funded Community Oncology Research Program Research Base.</li>
<li>Programmatic specialty areas include training in: conduct of clinical trials (Phase I through III) in both academic and community settings through the
<a href="https://urcc-ccop.com/ccop/">University of Rochester NCI-funded Community Oncology Research Program Research Base</a>,
<a href="https://www.urmc.rochester.edu/cancer-institute/services/geriatric-oncology.aspx">geriatric oncology</a> and cancer care delivery
research, <a href="https://www.urmc.rochester.edu/physiology-exercise-lab.aspx">exercise oncology,</a> <a href="https://www.urmc.rochester.edu/surgery/research/cancer-control-psychoneuroimmunology-laboratory.aspx">translational research</a>,
health equity, and biostatistics.</li>
<li>Practical experience in protocol design, study procedures, statistical analysis, manuscript writing and oral presentation. </li>
<li>An emphasis on preparation for successfully obtaining research funding. </li>
<li>A choice of earning one of <a href="/MediaLibraries/URMCMedia/cancer-center/professional-education/documents/Training-Curriculum-and-Research-Opportunities_2023.pdf" target="_blank">five advanced Master of Science (MS) degrees</a>,
uniquely tailored to methodologies necessary to successful execution of research interests of the trainee.</li>
<li>Curriculum, seminars and workshops on cancer control and research methodology in three focus areas:
<a href="/MediaLibraries/URMCMedia/cancer-center/professional-education/documents/Training-Curriculum-and-Research-Opportunities_2023.pdf" target="_blank">patient-oriented research, health outcomes research, and biostatistics and informatics research. </a>
</li>
<li>Special courses and seminars developed specifically for cancer control issues.</li>
<li>Opportunities for scientific and professional networking at 3 to 4 scientific meetings per year, cooperative oncology group meetings and mini-sabbaticals.</li>
<li>Support for pilot studies leading to career development proposals.</li>
<li>MPI directorship by Drs. Morrow and Janelsins, fostering collaboration and multidisciplinary research, within a culture of mentoring.</li>

Control Research Training Program
CLINICAL AND TRANSLATIONAL CANCER CONTROL RESEARCH TRAINING PROGRAM
The National Cancer Institute (NCI) supported Cancer Control Research Training
Program at the University of Rochester School of Medicine, located in the
beautiful Finger Lakes Region of upstate New York, is now in its 20th year and
provides post-doctoral M.D. or Ph.D. researchers with the knowledge and
experience to establish careers as outstanding independent investigators in
cancer control and prevention research.
FEATURES OF THE PROGRAM INCLUDE:
* An emphasis on transdisciplinary clinical and translational research and
resources to take advantage of opportunities to conduct cancer control
research both locally and nationally.
* Exceptionally diverse research opportunities and professional guidance and
mentorship provided by our NCI-funded Core Mentors and 15 other on-site
mentors who all hold competitively funded cancer-related research grants.
Mentorship opportunities are also provided by offsite mentors involved in the
University of Rochester NCI-funded Community Oncology Research Program
Research Base.
* Programmatic specialty areas include training in: conduct of clinical trials
(Phase I through III) in both academic and community settings through the
University of Rochester NCI-funded Community Oncology Research Program
Research Base, geriatric oncology and cancer care delivery
research, exercise oncology, translational research, health equity, and
biostatistics.
* Practical experience in protocol design, study procedures, statistical
analysis, manuscript writing and oral presentation.
* An emphasis on preparation for successfully obtaining research funding.
* A choice of earning one of five advanced Master of Science (MS) degrees,
uniquely tailored to methodologies necessary to successful execution of
research interests of the trainee.
* Curriculum, seminars and workshops on cancer control and research methodology
in three focus areas: patient-oriented research, health outcomes research,
and biostatistics and informatics research.
* Special courses and seminars developed specifically for cancer control
issues.
* Opportunities for scientific and professional networking at 3 to 4 scientific
meetings per year, cooperative oncology group meetings and mini-sabbaticals.
* Support for pilot studies leading to career development proposals.
* MPI directorship by Drs. Morrow and Janelsins, fostering collaboration and
multidisciplinary research, within a culture of mentoring.
