He received his B.A. in Sociology (with Honors) from the University of Southern California in 2018, graduating summa cum laude. Alejandro was awarded a Fulbright Research Award(Link is external) in 2018-2019 to study the impact of social policies on access to higher education in Brazil. His dissertation work has been recognized with the Prize Fellowship in the Social Sciences(Link is external), the President’s Fellowship(Link is external), and the Dean’s Completion Fellowship(Link is external). Alejandro uses quantitative methods to explore social stratification within educational settings. His research agenda explores the complex relationships between school choice, educational inequality, and institutional legitimacy. Using statistical analyses, survey experiments, and machine learning, he investigates how school admissions policies and allocation processes influence perceptions of fairness and the distribution of educational opportunities. His work has been presented regularly at the American Sociological Association Annual Meeting and the Population Association of America Annual Meeting. In addition to his research, Alejandro is a dedicated educator, having received the Graduate School Teaching Award(Link is external) and the Marvin Bressler Graduate Student Teaching Award(Link is external) from Princeton University.
