After spending 10 years at the start of her career dedicated to emergency and critical care, Beth spent two years practicing and learning medical oncology. Educating has always been one of Beth’s passions, and she spent a total of 11 years teaching at three veterinary technician colleges in the Chicagoland area. Beth spent two years running her own successful business before returning to the field, where she now feels well-placed in her new role empowering the next generation of veterinary technicians. Beth has become involved with working with the Green Cross as a Field Traumatologist with an extensive list of credentialing to help with compassion fatigue and trauma during the pandemic and natural disasters we have faced over the last several years. Beth is passionate about the mental health and leadership care in veterinary medicine, as our team’s physical and mental health directly impacts our patient’s best care. Based in Chicago, Beth continues to pursue her passion for education and her dedication to the success of veterinary technicians. When not keeping busy, she enjoys spending time with her two daughters, her husband, and most of all, her Border Collie, and Pomeranians. Beth Stark, CVT Elizabeth is a licensed technician and worked at Fox College Vet Tech Institute as an instructor and Externship Coordinator for six years. She Co-chairs the Certified Veterinary Technician Task Force Committee for the Illinois State Veterinary Medical Association and advocates for legislative changes that support the protection and utilization of licensed veterinary technicians. Elizabeth currently works for Heartland Veterinary Partners as the Veterinary Technician Development Manager and advocates for the utilization of vet tech licensure to its fullest extent. She also works towards the advancement, growth, and development of Veterinary Technicians actively in the field to better the industry and combat burnout for both the veterinarian and veterinary technician. Elizabeth is the 2022 recipient of the ISVMA Dr. Cecil Ingmire CVT Award and is currently working towards her VTES in education. Kate Burdick, B.V.Sc & A.H., CVT Kate is a Certified Veterinary Technologist in the state of Illinois with 10 years of experience in the Veterinary Medical field. Kate has been teaching veterinary technology in the Chicagoland area since 2017 and recently completed her master’s degree in Adult Learning and Higher Education with a focus in Biology. Kate has taught a wide range of classes, spanning from Veterinary Terminology to Surgical Nursing and Anesthesia, and has a particular passion for teaching Animal A&P. Kate’s clinical experience was primarily in general practice where she discovered her passion for training new technicians. Currently, Kate works for Alliance Animal Health as their Vet Tech Campus Recruiting Specialist. She aims to make all events she hosts for vet tech students to be meaningful, impactful, and educational. Kate calls the southwest suburbs of Chicago home and enjoys spending time with her fiancé, their spotted pup Luci, their evil black cat Moxxi, and a small Kenyan sandboa named Nigel Snakeberry. Darci Palmer, BS, LVT, VTS (ANES) Darci Palmer has been a credentialed veterinary technician for 21 years. She obtained her veterinary technician specialty in anesthesia and analgesia in 2006 while working at the Washington State University (WSU) Veterinary Teaching Hospital followed by a position at Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine. Currently Darci is at Tuskegee University College of Veterinary Medicine where she is providing both didactic lectures and clinical hands-on training to the veterinary students. In addition to her clinical work, she serves as the Academy of Veterinary Technicians in Anesthesia & Analgesia, Executive Secretary and in January 2021 she took over the chair of CVTS which is the committee that oversees all of the NAVTA recognized Veterinary Technician Specialty academies. Darci’s passion for educating continues outside of the teaching hospital as she has been an instructor for VSPN since 2007, lecturing and writing on the topics of anesthesia and analgesia nationally, and has been teaching a two-module small animal anesthesia course that she created since 2010. Julie Legred, CVT Julie Legred, CVT Julie graduated from the University of Minnesota – Waseca in 1985 with an Associates in Applied Science - Animal Health Technology. Within weeks of graduation, passed both the Minnesota State and Veterinary Technician National Exam earning the credentials of Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT). She has worked in many areas of the veterinary profession including small animal and exotic practices, research, education (instructor and program director), swine medicine and genetics, corporate medicine, leadership, management and consulting. She has held leadership roles over her career as Executive Director of Human Animal Bond Association, Winn Feline Foundation (EveryCat Health Foundation), and National Association of Veterinary Technicians in America (NAVTA). Julie founded Veterinary Technician Advancements and co-founded Veterinary Advancements and Vet Team Global Stream and she is currently the Veterinary Education Program Coordinator for VetTechPrep/VetPrep/Vetcetera. Julie lives in Minnesota with her family which includes her husband Brent, four sons (Justin, Kaylan, Karson & Kamron), three dogs (Louie, Andee & Remi) and two cats (Pickle & Olive). Stephen Nino Cital, RVT, RLAT, SRA, VCCS, VTS-LAM (Res. Anesthesia) Stephen is a Registered Veterinary Technician from California where he is a Laboratory Manager at Stanford University School of Medicine and a partner at Remedy Veterinary Specialists. Stephen is also the Executive Director for the Academy of Laboratory Animal Veterinary Technicians and Nurses, holding a Veterinary Technician Specialist certification in Laboratory Animal Medicine (LAM) with an anesthesia focus. He also holds the Certified Veterinary Pain Practitioner credential, and was a board member of the International Veterinary Academy of Pain Management (IVAPM). He also holds the certification as a Surgical Research Anesthetist through the Academy of Surgical Research. Stephen is an award-winning international lecturer on anesthesia, pain management, cannabis, and best practices in research. He enjoys teaching and serves on advisory boards, is a key opinion leader for multiple pharmaceutical/device companies. Besides the many former and active board positions within the veterinary industry, he was also a column coordinator for one of Nature’s journals and has contributed to numerous textbooks and peer-reviewed papers. Tasha McNerney, BS, CVT, VTS (ANES), CVPP Tasha is a Certified Veterinary Technician from Pennsylvania where she works as a educational consultant and relief anesthesia technician. Tasha is the founder of the Veterinary Anesthesia Nerds, while also a Certified Veterinary Pain Practitioner and board member of the International Veterinary Academy of Pain Management (IVAPM) to educate the public about animal pain awareness. In fact, Tasha was the thought leader behind the now celebrated “Animal Pain Awareness Month” within the veterinary industry. Tasha became a veterinary technician specialist in anesthesia in 2015. Tasha loves to lecture on various anesthesia and pain management topics around the globe and was recently named the VMX 2020 speaker of the Year. Tasha has authored numerous articles and textbook chapters on anesthesia and analgesia topics for veterinary professionals and pet parents. In her spare time Tasha enjoys reading, spending time with her husband and son, and recording the Veterinary Anesthesia Nerds Podcast. AM Ann-Marie Montou-Duncan Barbie Papajeski, MS, LVT, RLATG, VTS (Clinical Pathology) Barbie teaches clinical pathology and laboratory animal courses in the veterinary technology program at Murray State University and is a continuing education instructor for the Veterinary Support Personnel Network. Before full-time teaching, she worked at the Breathitt Veterinary Center diagnostic laboratory. She currently serves as secretary of the Academy of Veterinary Clinical Pathology Technicians and the Kentucky Veterinary Technician Association. She resides in western Kentucky, near Land Between the Lakes, where she loves to hike with her 2 sons and husband. She shares her home with 3 dogs, 4 cats, and an assortment of feathered and scaled animals. CC Carla Hubbs, CVT Steven McLaughlin, DVM, MPH, DACVPM Dr. Steven I. Mclaughlin is a graduate of the Cornell School of Veterinary Medicine, class of 91'. He did mixed practice on the shores of Lake Ontario in northern New York and in the high Andes of Ecuador as a Peace Corps volunteer, where he worked with campesino farmers and learned how to not ride horses. His lifelong interest in teaching and effective learning models led him from clinical practice and public health to the world of veterinary education. Dr. Mclaughlin is co-creator of the VIN NAVLE prep course and founder of the Zuku Review in 2007, an online veterinary test preparation service for the VTNE, NAVLE and BCSE. Welcome Moises!
