A raccoon drags a jack-o-lantern off a porch, a squirrel hoists a bagel up a
tree, an opossum strolls into 7/11 and grabs a bag of chips off of the shelf...
Varmints are all around us, and I can't get enough of their antics. My name is
David, founder of Grubfellow Games, and this game is a way for me to show my
love for dumpster-diving critters.


From a design perspective, my priority since day one has been to create a game
that is simple and fun with nothing but numbers, and that goal has led us here.
Varmints! is intended to be played with all of the card effects, but even the
simple "numbers-only" gameplay mode is delightful and suitable for kids as young
as 10 (or younger!). Games without effects can take as little as 10-15 minutes,
or you can add in all of the tricks play for 30 minutes or more. The intuitive
scalability of gameplay options and time commitments ensures that everybody can
find a way to enjoy Varmints! in a way that works for them.

Varmints! was delightful to develop in its early playtest stages, but the
project really came together when I found the perfect artist and creative
partner, JelArts (Jessica Lowry). Jessica's incredible, adorable, lovable
artwork is what makes Varmints! the best that it can be. Join me in fawning over
her 30+ original illustrations of Birds, Dogs, Foxes, Opossums, Raccoons, Rats,
Squirrels, and Skunks. Between the cards, the box, stickers, buttons, tote bags,
and prints, there are tons of different ways for everybody to enjoy and cherish
this unique and whimsical artwork!

In addition to producing a game that's as fun to play as it is to look at, we at
Grubfellow Games care deeply about giving back to our community and helping out
our human and non-human neighbors alike. In lieu of more typical stretch goals
and bonuses, our stretch goals include game donations to schools and libraries,
as well as cash donations to Urban Wildlife Rehabilitation here in
Massachusetts, USA. If you want to make a more direct contribution to spread the
love, you can also add a "Donation Game" to your pledge. Donation Games will be
given away to anyone who wants one, free of charge, no questions asked. This
will help get Varmints! into the hands of everybody who would like a copy, even
if they can't afford it themselves.

GAMEPLAY SUMMARY

Varmints! is a head-to-head contest between two crowds of critters as they race
to devour all the trash in the neighborhood. Populate three alleys with fluffy,
adorable pests and use them to raid the bins on the other side of the block.
Defend your own bins with careful critter placement and tricky abilities. Call
for backup and boost your Varmints! to outmaneuver the competition. Swoop,
sneak, and scurry your way to dumpster-diving dominance, and may the fullest
belly win!

As a player, you will defend three Trash Bins filled with Scraps of tasty
garbage. During the game, you and your opponent will whittle away at each
other's hoards of rubbish, depleting the Scraps from each Trash Bin until
there's nothing left to munch. When you manage to empty all of your opponent's
Trash Bins before they empty yours, you win the game!

The stars of the show are your Varmint Cards, including classic trash-eating
creatures such as Skunks, Raccoons, Rats, and Birds. Each Varmint Card has a
Level (at the top-left), a Speed (in the middle), a Boost (at the bottom-left,
with a plus-sign), and a special Effect. You'll play your Varmint Cards in front
of your three Trash Bins, across from your opponents. Varmint Cards use their
numbers and abilities to play both offense AND defense in this trashy contest!

Strategically positioned throughout the alleys and back streets, each of your
Varmint Cards will compare their Speed value to the opposing Varmint Card
directly across from them. The larger number wins, and the player with the
smaller number loses one Scrap from that Trash Bin. Simple, right?


Fortunately for your Varmint Cards, they don't need to race for the rubbish
alone. You'll also be playing Backup behind your Varmint Cards to help them out.
Backup consists of face-down Varmint Cards that increase the Level of a lane and
give you the opportunity to Boost your Varmint Card's Speed when the time is
right. Your Backup cards will come and go, but your Scraps are the difference
between winning and losing. Make sure that you use the Trash Bin cards to help
keep them separate!

So, you've got your Trash Bins and Scraps, you've played your Varmint Cards to
defend them, and those varmints have plenty of Backup. What if your Speed
numbers are still too small? That's where Boosting comes in! As your Varmint
Cards face off against the competition, you can play additional cards from your
hand to add their Boost value to your Varmint Card's Speed value. But be warned:
Every time you Boost, you'll need to pay for it by discarding a Backup. If you
run out of Backup in one of your Alleys, that Varmint is on their own for rest
of the night!

With careful placement of your Varmint Cards, clever use of your cards' Effects,
and sneaky Boosts at the perfect time, you and your garbage gang will munch your
way to victory. With snappy back-and-forth turns, exciting "Take That" gameplay,
and unimaginably cute illustrations, Varmints! will leave your living room
littered with laughter.

REFUNDS AND CANCELLATION

Prior to packing and shipment, we will offer a 85% refund to anybody, for any
reason, no questions asked. The 15% deduction covers processing fees, handling
fees, Gamefound's fee, and the payment provider fee.


Under normal circumstances, no refunds will be offered once an order is being
compiled, packaged, and shipped. This will likely occur in March 2023. Unique
and unforeseen circumstances will be handled on a case-by-case basis. If you
have any concerns about a late cancellation, please contact us directly at
varmintsgame@gmail.com to discuss in detail.


Please note that this product is funded in USD. All refunds and transfers will
be processed in USD. Currency exchange rates may vary from time of payment to
time of refund, which means the exact value of a refund in a foreign currency
may differ slightly from the original payment.


If you fail to complete the shipping survey via the pledge manager, we will hold
your product and wait to receive a shipping location and requisite payment. We
will not proactively initiate refunds for inactive or incomplete Pledge
Management on the part of the backer.


TAX INFORMATION

For UK and EU backers, VAT will be collected through Gamefound during the Pledge
