YOU CAN VISIT RAINBOW BOATHOUSES NEAR OTTAWA & IT'S LIKE A MINI TRIP TO THE EAST
COAST

There is a row of colourful boathouses near Ottawa that will make you think
you're in Newfoundland.

You should plan a visit to the South Lancaster Wharf if you're looking for a pop
of colour to brighten things up. It's a scenic place for a picnic or to add some
colour to your social media feed and it's free to visit.

This spacious dock is one of the few spots to access the water in town. You'll
be surrounded by a beautiful river view and you may spot locals swimming,
fishing or gathering for community events.

According to SeawayNews, the splash of colour was added to the boathouses by
volunteers in 2016 as a way to beautify the neighbourhood. There were other
upgrades to the wharf at that time including the addition of a floating dock
with kayak launch and picnic tables.

This scenic wharf is only five minutes from the Cooper Marsh Conservation Area
where you can hike a boardwalk trail and about 20 minutes away from the city of
Cornwall which has a bunch of restaurants, trails and activities.

It's a great spot to catch the sunrise if you're a morning person. You should
bring bug spray as, depending on the season, there may be a number of flies and
mosquitos near the water.

THIS WATERFALL HIKING TRAIL NEAR OTTAWA HAS A PANORAMIC LOOKOUT OF THE VALLEY

You can level up your hiking adventures around Ottawa by hitting a waterfall
trail that leads to two lookout points on an ancient mountain range.

ontario ruins

THESE HIDDEN STONE RUINS IN ONTARIO WILL MAKE YOU FEEL LIKE YOU'RE IN ST.
ANDREWS, SCOTLAND

If you have a wanderlust for the majestic cathedrals and historic castle ruins
found across the United Kingdom you should make sure to visit these historic
stone ruins near Ottawa.

St. Raphael's Ruins will take you back in time and trick you into thinking that
you're exploring St. Andrews Cathedral in Scotland. It's free to visit and
donations are appreciated to help maintain and restore the old church.

> See on Instagram

This grand church was built in the early 1800s as one of the first Roman
Catholic churches in English-speaking Canada, according to its Facebook page. It
was the largest parish of its kind at that time and today is considered the
founding church for the Anglophone Catholics in Ontario.

Due to the vast historic significance this place holds, (as a church and
educational centre) it has since been deemed a National Historic Site. The ruins
are open for you to wander year-round and during the summer a curator is on-site
from Monday to Friday if you have any questions.

A fire consumed the building in 1970 leaving the remaining structure of ruins
that we can explore today. The church bell was also saved from the fire and is
on display within the stone walls.

Outside of the stone ruins, there is an old cemetery that keeps the Scottish
church vibes going throughout which stands in contrast to the surrounding
farmland.

If you happen to fall madly in love with the space you can actually rent it for
special events including weddings. You can contact them directly to ask about
hosting an event or check the website or any upcoming concerts.

Price: Free (donations accepted)

Address: 19998 County Rd. 18, Williamstown, ON

Why You Need To Go: You can discover a piece of Canada's history and feel like
you've travelled to Scotland as you explore these stone ruins.

THIS SANDY BEACH NEAR ONTARIO LOOKS LIKE A TROPICAL GETAWAY WITH PALM TREE
UMBRELLAS

There is still plenty of summer left for a beach town road trip and this sandy
shore in Quebec looks like you've jetted off to Mexico.

You'll find the tropical destination of Saint-Zotique Beach about two hours from
Ottawa. There are blue water views to admire as you relax under a dried palm
tree umbrella or pedal boat out from the shore.

The beach also has an inflatable waterpark where you can splash around and
challenge your friends on 30 different buoyant structures.

> See on Instagram

You'll think you've flown to a beach resort as you enjoy wooden lounge chairs
and tropical umbrellas scattered across the shore. You can fuel yourself with a
treat from weekend food trucks or an ice cream hut.

A row of bright yellow pedal boats line the water's edge and you can rent a
two-person boat for $15 an hour and a four-person one for $25 per hour. The
beach also offers kayaks and stand-up paddle boards to rent.

You've probably heard of water polo but what about Stand Up Paddle Polo? There
is a floating SUP Polo area blocked off near the waterpark that can be rented
for $8 per hour for adults or $20 an hour for a three-person team. Good luck
trying to stay balanced.

There are large and small charcoal BBQs to rent as well as beach balls, frisbees
and life vests, so you don't need to worry about packing too much.

Access to this sandy beach is $12 per adult and the beach recommends that you
book online in advance. Once capacity is reached no more tickets are sold at the
entrance. The waterpark admission is an additional fee of $12 per adult.

There are a bunch of events and festivals you can look forward to on the beach
as well. There is a moonlit yoga class on August 12 and a regional grill
festival on August 20.
