SOME AI FEATURES WILL ALREADY BECOME AVAILABLE ON COPILOT+ LAPTOPS THIS NOVEMBER

Microsoft has confirmed that up to six AI features will become available for
Copilot+ laptops with NPU and latest CPUs from Intel and AMD. Those include
Recall, Context-aware Copilot, Subtitle translation, Auto Super Resolution,
Improved image and text generation with Cocreator, and improved Windows Studio
effects.

WINDOWS 11 OVERTAKES WINDOWS 10 IN STEAM STATS FOR THE FIRST TIME

Steam has published the results of the Hardware & Software Survey for August
2024. According to report, Windows 11 has surpassed Windows 10 in popularity for
the first time. Over the past month, the Windows 11 share has grown by 3.36% and
now stands at 49.17%. In turn, the Windows 10 figures have decreased by 3.07% to
47.09%.

MICROSOFT MAKES THE NEW ACCOUNT MANAGER IN START MORE CONVENIENT

Some time ago, Microsoft has started releasing a new feature of the Start menu
called "Account Manager". It is currently available to Windows 11 Insiders.
Technically, it is a new user account menu that appears like a small dashboard.
In addition to user switching and sign out commands, the new pane includes extra
details about Microsoft subscriptions. However, its first implementation had
some rough surfaces.

MICROSOFT: NO, YOU WON’T BE ABLE TO REMOVE RECALL FROM WINDOWS 11

Microsoft has clarified the situation around the recently spotted checkbox that
allows removing Recall from Windows 11. According to a company representative,
the checkbox is a bug and the Recall feature can only be disabled, not removed.

MICROSOFT UPDATES RAM LIMITER IN EDGE, RESTORES ACRYLIC IN THE UI

Some time ago, we learned about the new feature "RAM limiter" in the Microsoft
Edge browser. It allows to set the upper limit of memory the browser can use.
Microsoft is actively working on the feature. Its latest implementation sports
presets instead of the slider.

WINDOWS 11 BUILD 27695 (CANARY) CHANGES THE BUILD EXPIRATION DATE TO SEPTEMBER

Windows 11 build 27695 is now available to Insiders using the Canary channel. It
introduces the Widgets button on the right side of the taskbar, new build
expiration date, improvements to the notification management, and more.
Interestingly, some Insiders in the Canary ring will see an estimate of how long
their PC will be not in usable state while installing Build 27695.

WINDOWS 11 BUILD 22635.4145 (BETA) RELEASED WITH SPOTLIGHT AND INPUT

MICROSOFT DELEGATES MONO PROJECT DEVELOPMENT TO WINE COMMUNITY

In August 2024, Microsoft transferred the Mono project, an open-source software
platform for building cross-platform applications and an alternative to the .NET
platform, to the Wine community and the WineHQ organization. WineHQ is known for
developing an open implementation of the Win32 API.

HOW TO ACCESS NAS AFTER INSTALLING WINDOWS 11 24H2

After updating to Windows 11 24H2 you may face access errors 0xc000a000,
-1073700864, STATUS_INVALID_SIGNATURE or The cryptographic signature is invalid
when opening NAS. The reason is a change in Windows 11 that makes the mandatory
use of SMB signing for all outgoing packets. It may cause a flow of issues with
accessing plent of network access storage devices when Windows 11 24H2 will hit
the market.
