Morrissey is attending the event for the first time, which begins with media day on Thursday, the Skills Competition on Friday, and the three-on-three divisional tournament on Saturday. The 27-year-old is having a phenomenal season, and his first 52 games of the 2022-23 campaign were highlighted by his two goals on Monday to help the team to a 4-2 win over St. Louis. As part of the NHL's larger Hockey is for Everyone initiative, Black History Month celebrates diversity in hockey, past and current players and helps to drive positive social change and foster more inclusive communities. View More View Less MORRISSEY STARTS THE COMEBACK AS JETS RALLY TO BEAT BLUES "YOU GO FROM BEING DOWN 2-0 TO WINNING THAT GAME IN A PRETTY FUN FASHION." by Mitchell Clinton @MitchellClinton / WinnipegJets.com January 31, 2023 WINNIPEG - Josh Morrissey might have had the quote of the night, but there weren't any microphones around. He just shouted it to anyone that could hear him over the goal horn and the massive ovation at Canada Life Centre. "Let's go!" Well, there might have been another word in the middle there. Maybe. "I just kind of blacked out," he laughed. When he was told that his teammate - Mark Scheifele - described the NHL All-Star's performance as "fricken' fantastic," Morrissey could only smile, adding "Yeah, that's what I was saying in the celebration too." The whole play, Morrissey's goal, his celebration, his yelling to the crowd, his waving of his arms, might go down as one of the biggest moments of the season. It cut a St. Louis Blues lead to 2-1, and paved the way to a four-goal third period comeback as the Jets snapped a three-game losing streak with a 4-2 win. View More View Less THOMAS' THREE STORYLINES - STL @ WPG ONE CHANGE, SCHEIFELE NEARS 30 GOALS, AND MORE! by Jamie Thomas @JamieThomasTV / WinnipegJets.com January 30, 2023 URGENCY The Jets have played five consecutive games against teams that are fighting for their playoff lives and tonight will provide more of the same with St. Louis in town. The Blues have dropped four in a row and are eight points out of the final playoff spot in the Western Conference, nine points out of third spot in the Central Division. Winnipeg will need to match the Blues urgency to help get themselves out of this funk they are in ahead of the all-star/player break. But that's not where their focus is. It can't be. "We've got to take care of business here," said Jets head coach Rick Bowness. "We're not happy with our last three games, we're not happy if you take a look at the last seven or eight games, there have only been a few good games. Our guys are well aware of that." Of course, the games Bowness are referring to are the three straight losses the Jets (31-19-1) have suffered, with the latter two coming on home ice to Buffalo and Philadelphia. This is just the second time this season that the Jets have lost three in a row. They responded with five straight wins (and victories in eight of nine). The current schedule leaves them with just one game before the break, but Winnipeg wants to make sure it's one that has them playing to their identity. View More View Less JETS BLANKED BY FLYERS FOR THIRD STRAIGHT LOSS "WE'RE FALLING BEHIND IN GAMES AND THEN IT JUST SEEMS TO SNOWBALL." by Mitchell Clinton @MitchellClinton / WinnipegJets.com January 29, 2023 WINNIPEG - The frustration level might be nearing a season-high for the Winnipeg Jets. A 4-0 loss to the Philadelphia Flyers on Saturday night was the team's third defeat in a row, and while no team has played more games since December 2, 2022 than Winnipeg, that doesn't make them feel any better. "As soon as there is a little adversity - we handled it well early in the year - we're not handling it well right now," said Jets head coach Rick Bowness. "We're a good hockey team. You have to work and you have to compete. As soon as it gets tough, you can't change from that." Things are certainly hard right now. The same team that won eight of nine games from late December into the middle of January now has losses in five of seven. In the two wins, the Jets (31-19-1) scored 10 times. In the five losses, they have just five. The team won't hold a morning skate ahead of tonight's 6 pm CT puck drop against the Philadelphia Flyers, the second game of a three-game home stand for Winnipeg. It's not totally unheard of, as the team often won't hold a morning skate on the back half of a back-to-back. Tonight's tilt with the Flyers isn't on a back-to-back (unlike the first meeting between the two clubs six days ago), but after an up-tempo practice on Friday, the Jets took a pass on Saturday's morning skate. The focus tonight is all about pace. "Can we push the pace harder in games? Absolutely we can," said head coach Rick Bowness after Friday's skate. "We want to skate, we want to pressure, we want to get the puck, we want to go." View More View Less PRACTICE NOTEBOOK - JAN. 27, 2023 "I THINK THE BEST HOCKEY IS STILL AHEAD OF US." by Mitchell Clinton @MitchellClinton / WinnipegJets.com January 27, 2023 WINNIPEG - At the 50-game mark of the season, the Winnipeg Jets have certainly hit the heavy grind of the National Hockey League schedule. They're tied with multiple teams for the second most games played in the league (behind Washington's 51) with 29 of those coming in the last 56 days - 53 days if the three-day break at the holiday is removed. So the lack of pace, a foundation to Winnipeg's success so far this season, has been tough to come by some nights. However, it's also something that can be fixed, which is why Josh Morrissey remains as confident as ever in what the group is capable of. "We have a great hockey team here and we believe in ourselves," said the defenceman. "It's time to just learn from each game, learn from yesterday, and be good in these next two. I don't know if there's any two situations or two seasons that are the same but we're certainly not pushing the panic button in our locker room, that's for sure." View More View Less BEHIND THE MAKING OF THE SOUTH ASIAN HERITAGE NIGHT LOGO "I'M SO EXCITED. I CAN'T EXPRESS THAT. IT REALLY MEANS A LOT TO ME." by Mitchell Clinton @MitchellClinton / WinnipegJets.com January 27, 2023 Graphic designer Charmi Sheth still remembers the conversation that led to her working on the biggest project of her young career. That conversation was between her and True North Sports + Entertainment's Director of Creative, Josh Dudych. He was asking her to help with the logo design and overall branding for the team's first ever South Asian Heritage Night. "Since I was five or six I've been into drawing, sketching, and painting, everything," said the 20-year-old. "I was very excited because it was for South Asia." She comes by her talent, honestly. Her father is also a graphic designer, and many of her earliest memories of sketching have him involved. "When I was three, I used to sit in my dad's office," she said. "I learned a lot from him too. I am really good with colours and typography." View More View Less × SHARE THIS!!
