In recent years, it has wreaked havoc on ash trees across the country and will been spotted in Utah soon. Save My Ash Find a Tree Care Professional EMERALD ASH BORER Native to Asia, the Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) was first discovered in the Detroit area back in 2002. The bright green metallic beetle is smaller than a dime, but can destroy entire forests of Ash Trees. Adults Emerald Ash Borers normally emerge in mid to late May from infected trees from the previous year. They bore directly into the Ash tree and feed under the bark causing visible tracks underneath. The feeding eventually kills the Ash tree by removing its ability to transport water and nutrients.
