IS LORI HARVEY FACING REAL JAIL TIME FOR HER HIT AND RUN?

Lori Harvey is usually a hot topic when it comes to her dating life or her
famous stepdad, Steve Harvey. While she’s been busy celebrating her birthday and
hanging out with Future, her court case has come back up in the news.

Some may remember that she was in a car accident last fall that resulted in her
arrest. This week, it’s been reported that she was charged with two
misdemeanors, but is Harvey actually in deep, deep trouble?

A RUNDOWN OF WHAT HAPPENED WITH THE ACCIDENT

Back in October 2019, the Beverly Hills Police Department shared that Harvey was
involved in a single-vehicle accident. She hit a parked car with her Mercedes
SUV and left the scene of the accident, but was apprehended by police near the
scene, E! News reported. Harvey was cuffed but instead of being hauled to the
station and booked, she was issued two citations.

At the time, witnesses said they saw her texting and driving before the
accident, and it was reported she flipped her vehicle in the process.




WHAT PENALTIES COULD LORI HARVEY FACE?

As of Jan. 13, prosecutors with the Los Angeles District Attorney’s office
decided to formally charge Harvey with two misdemeanors, according to People.
For failing to contact police after the accident, she was hit with one count of
resisting, delaying, and obstructing a peace officer. This misdemeanor carries a
penalty of up to a year in jail, a fine up to $1,000, or both.

She was also charged with misdemeanor hit and run involving property damage. If
convicted, this charge may result in a jail sentence of up to six months, a fine
of $1,000, probation, or a combination of all the above.


WHAT COULD POSSIBLY HAPPEN IN HARVEY’S CASE

While the California legal codes have established the penalties should a person
be a convicted, the onus rests on the prosecutor to prove Harvey’s intent for
both misdemeanor crimes. One attorney told Hollywood Life that her lawyer should
move to have the hit and run charge dismissed on the grounds that no one was
injured, and Harvey wasn’t under the influence.

Alternately, there is a diversion program available through the county
prosecutor’s office for first time offenders, and it may be a possibility for
Harvey’s misdemeanors. Prior to going to court, her attorney could request this
and make her responsible for the cost of the property damage.

Additionally, the diversion program typically requires the performance of
community service. If she pays monetary damages and makes a deal for the
diversion program, she’ll avoid jail time and probation. Either way, many
believe it is highly unlikely Harvey will see the inside of a cell.


HARVEY SEEMS UNBOTHERED

As mentioned, Harvey’s having a great week celebrating her birthday with family,
friends, and her beau, rapper Future. The model turned 23 on Jan. 13 and has
been partying it up in Jamaica and elsewhere.



For weeks, it’s been speculated that she and Future reconnected romantically and
the two confirmed their relationship with a PDA-filled post on social media.
Life is good for Harvey.
