> Anglo Saxon in origin, the "Kensington" name appears in the Doomsday Book
> survey of 1086 as Chenesit, one interpretation being Cynesigne's Farm.
>
> The origin of the "Chelsea" name is disputed. Spellings such as Chelcheya and
> Chelchythe are amongst many which appear on old documents. However, it is
> likely that it means "Chalk Wharf" as traces of chalk can now be seen at low
> tide in the River Thames.

KCTS ® Featured Pub of the Month
The Coopers Pub, Chelsea
Trendy Victorian street-corner local in the street where Margaret Thatcher lived
before she became Prime Minister in 1979. With The Coopers being so close to the
famous Chelsea Registry Office this Flood Street watering hole is no stranger to
celebration and celebrity. Traditional British and European food. Menu changes
daily. Owned by Young's, local brewers.
"We have here a thoroughly well-bred pub, good-mannered, good-natured staff and
customers in complete accord," says The Evening Standard and we would have no
trouble in agreeing with that.
