ABOUT ME I am Eva and I am a Spanish teacher. I was born in Barcelona (Spain) and have taught in different countries for the last ten years. I am a qualified tutor and blah blah blah. This is more or less the same information that every language tutor provides, so I guess that this doesn't tell you much about me. I don't think that I am a special or extraordinary teacher, I don't have a magic formula to make students learn effortlessly either. What I do is have fun doing my job. If I have fun teaching most probably you will also have fun learning. Boredom kills motivation. In my opinion, every teacher should keep this as a mantra. I have a taste for work well done and I don't like to waste my time or make others waste it. Now it's your turn to decide if what I do could be interesting for you using your own criteria and experience. If you are still doubting the text below may help you to take a decision. THIS COURSE IS FOR YOU IF ... YOU DON'T THINK YOU HAVE THE KNACK FOR LEARNING LANGUAGES. This is a myth as real as Santa Clause. Learning languages isn't about memorizing grammar rules and vocabulary in a classroom. It's about communicating and connecting with others, and that's something everyone knows how to do. YOU WANT A COURSE THAT GET'S STRAIGHT TO THE POINT AND HAS A CLEAR OBJECTIVE: SPEAKING IN SPANISH. Here, your final evaluation is very concrete, a 20-minute conversation 100% in Spanish with a native speaker. In addition, we schedule the evaluation a limited time from your start so you can track the progress you've made in a fixed period. YOU NEED TO BREAK THROUGH YOUR FEAR OF SPEAKING WITH NATIVE SPEAKERS. These courses consist of SPEAKING, so that's what we are going to do. That doesn't mean we won't practise listening and reading comprehension and written expression, but our final goal will always be improving your speech. YOU DON'T ENJOY OR YOU HAVEN'T BEEN SUCCESSFUL LEARNING FROM BOOKS, GRAMMAR MANUALS OR APPS. You aren't alone! These approaches lack the motivation and interaction critical to learning languages. YOU WANT TO IMPROVE YOUR CONFIDENCE AND ARE AFRAID OF MAKING MISTAKES IN FRONT OF OTHERS IN GROUP CLASSES? Don't worry! First, know that basically, every student makes those same mistakes. Regardless, what happens in class stays in class. A professional tutor is the closest to a psychologist or a priest that you'll find. Our lips are sealed. YOU LIKE EXPERIENCING OTHER CULTURES AUTHENTICALLY AND OPENING YOUR MIND TO OTHER WAYS OF UNDERSTANDING THE WORLD. You like experiencing other cultures authentically and opening your mind to other ways of understanding the world. THIS COURSE ISN'T FOR YOU IF ... YOU AREN'T READY TO COMMIT YOURSELF OR DEDICATE A MINIMUM REGULAR TIME, UNLESS YOU BELIEVE IN MIRACLES. You can't run a marathon only training 30 minutes every three months, well this is the same. It's not necessary to drop everything and dedicate yourself exclusively to studying Spanish. Taking just two classes a week and spending 10 minutes a day reviewing can provide a certain level of fluency in as little as three to four months. YOU AREN'T REALLY MOTIVATED. If your desire to learn Spanish comes and goes day to day, this might not be the course for you. When a person is convinced they want to achieve something and is passionate about it, that is when they get the best possible results. My classes will help build and maintain your momentum as you do something you enjoy. But if Spanish is an obligation for you, I'm not the teacher your are looking for. YOU WANT TO PREPARE TO TAKE AN OFFICIAL EXAM OR ARE LEARNING FOR FORMAL PURPOSES: BUSINESS, MEDICINE, LAW, ETC. Here we concentrate on learning Spanish for everyday life, especially travel Spanish or to help you socialize when relocating to a new country. YOU ARE LOOKING FOR CREDENTIALS AND DIPLOMAS. It's great to put on your CV or to tell your grandma you have a diploma in Spanish, but here we focus on results in the real world: ability to converse with native speakers. Language is social and exciting because it helps us get to know others and learn new things. If it becomes an rigid and boring activity, it loses all the magic. And in the end, learning is all about motivation. IF YOU THINK IT'S MORE IMPORTANT TO WAIT TO SPEAK PERFECTLY, HAVE A BIGGER VOCABULARY, OR KNOW MORE GRAMMAR RULES BEFORE YOU OPEN YOUR MOUTH TO SPEAK. This puts way too much pressure on yourself, and it's totally unnecessary. Our approach is much more simple and will have you speaking Spanish from your first class (three phrases, a few greetings, something simple). Each small victory counts.
