"Gaia, a spacecraft that reveals the fascinating variable Universe. No, things
in the heavens are not eternal and unchanging as Aristotle believed; on the
contrary, the stars, planets and galaxies are in constant change. Some of these
transformations occur at human time scales: from seconds to years. Gaia allows
us to capture many variable phenomena: We are now asking the community - you,
the citizen scientists - to contribute to the classification of these variable
sources to help building the most accurate and the biggest variable catalog of
the whole sky ever created -- Dr. Laurent Eyer, Gaia Variability Leader."

Astronomers need your help to not only uncover the secrets of the Milky Way and
beyond but classify the data of variable objects obtained by the Gaia space
mission too. Join us and become a space explorer, browse the data used by
professional astronomers, and co-create one of the most accurate catalogues of
variable objects to date. And who knows what awaits you on this adventure? You

Gaia Vari

Gaia Vari is a citizen science project funded by the European Space Agency (ESA)
supporting the classification of variable sources in Gaia. It aims at building a
community around the Gaia mission, classifying the time-series dataset for
interesting variable cases, and inviting citizens to contribute to scientific
results.

How human eye classification can help?

Gaia consortium designed an automated classification, which is not perfect and
we know that some sources were incorrectly classified. By joining Gaia Vari you
improve our training data sets and help us to find what we doing wrong. Also,
you may discover the most interesting objects, golden treasures, which are
hidden in data as a needle in a haystack. You can make discoveries that are only
possible with the help of the human eye.
