The B.C. renter's tax credit, updated on March 15, 2024, introduces a new
system based on annual income, starting from the 2023 tax year. Low- and
moderate-income individuals and families with an adjusted income of $60,000
or less can receive $400 for the year. Individuals with incomes between
$60,000 and $80,000 may receive a reduced amount. Claiming the credit is
straightforward, it is completed on the T1 Income Tax and Benefit Return,
with no separate application required. Eligibility criteria include occupying
an eligible rental unit in B.C. for at least 6 one-month periods, paying
rent, and being a resident of B.C. on December 31 of the tax year.
