The story behind

EXPLORING STATES

Vacations started out as solo adventures for a single adult. As time passed, my
relationship status changed, and vacations would begin to include my
then-girlfriend (now wife). Life continues to change over the years. Vacation
planning has gone from planning for myself to planning family vacations that
occasionally include two dogs. The vacations I go on are always planned, but
sometimes they don’t go as intended.

Exploring States started as a way to document travel experiences. At the time of
the concept of Exploring States, taking a large and extravagent vacation wasn’t
an option. In 2014, a trip to New Mexico took place, and there wasn’t a lot of
money to see and do things but a healthy gas budget for a road trip. It was at
that time that state and national parks, roadside attractions, and state
capitols would be a part of my vacations. Later, after visiting multiple haunted
and historical locations, I added haunted locations to the list of destinations.
Vacations then were always a budget-conscious endeavor out of necessity. Even
today, I continue to vacation on a budget because nothing is worse than having
the cost of a vacation follow you home.

As new content is created, I will likely include information on how I budget my
vacations.

CUISE

The countdown to our next sailing date has started. The family’s next cruise
will take place on September 14, 2024, on Royal Caribbean’s newest ship, the
Icon of the Seas. We are excited for this new experience on this new ship, and I
look forward to writing about it and sharing it.

TRAVIS K

Travis is a road-tripper who enjoys stopping at roadside attractions, national
parks, and haunted locations, preferably hotels and prisons. He aspires to visit
every state, state capitol, and federal park in the continental United States,
including Alaska and Hawaii. A love for the southwest and an interest in the
history and culture of the region keep him looking for new destinations to visit
there.

Keep up with him socially via populate social media platforms.

ROAD TRIP

The countdown to my next road trip has started. I will be leaving Monday to
travel to Cave Creek, Arizona. My wife and child will fly to Phoenix, where I
will pick them up at the airport, and we will then continue our vacation
together. We hope to visit a zoo or aquarium, attend a spring training baseball
game, and visit a national park. Since Arizona is one of the states we have
traveled to the most, we look forward to finding something we haven’t seen or
done before.
