New year, new materials! Now offering additional formulations of Checkerspot's
cast polyurethane, derived from algae oil 🌿 While the Pollinator® Kit is a
fantastic way to try out Checkerspot's biobased materials, we know that
materials aren't one-size-fits-all. We're excited to share that we have two
additional, ready to ship, formulations on our website! CHK 1069 - Flexible High
Impact Cast Urethane (Shore 30 D) CHK 1003 - Semi-Rigid High Impact Cast
Urethane (Shore 50 D) Both formulations were developed for high impact
resistance, even in cold temperatures. Checkerspot Cast PU 1003 is also the same
formulation used for @wndr_alpine's AlgalWall -the sidewall of their award
winning backcountry skis and snowboards. Design and prototype with trusted, high

Say goodbye to toxic, synthetic, pigments and hello to a natural alternative
that colors this material with a vibrant blue hue and incorporates yet another
algae-derived material in your creations. In our Spirulina kit, once mixed with
our yellow-toned B side, the nutrient-rich algae pigment adds a beautiful pop of
green to your designs. Even more interesting... our designers found that the
algae pigment changes color in the sun, illustrating yet another wonderful

Life Ring Boat Key Prototype Designers: Julian Goldman @Juliansgees & Dierdre
Shea @D13rdr3 Co-Founders of Fun Stuff Design @Funstuffdesign . "It was fun to
think about the many ways in which foam is used in the world. We thought this
was a playful object that is both useful and visible - a reminder of how helpful
foam is, and how we can get to that utility in a more responsible way." -
Dierdre & Julian . We've been hard at work making a biobased foam to replace
traditional fossil-fuel derived formulations. While we can't spill all the
details just yet, we couldn't resist giving you a glimpse of what's to come.

The creative minds of engineering students from Utah State University and
Southern Utah University were buzzing with innovation as they used the
Pollinator® Kit to design and prototype teaching materials for the Utah School
for Deaf and Blind! The results? Mind-blowing! From tactile learning aids to
interactive models, the prototypes demonstrated the students' commitment to
inclusive and effective education. The Pollinator Kit served as the perfect
catalyst for their creativity, fostering a hands-on approach to learning. 🥇 1st
Place Congratulations to the USU team for their outstanding project! Their bird
habitat featured various bird beaks and prey, simulating the adaptations to meet
survival needs. The incorporation of braille and colors to the final design was
a game-changer, showing the power of visual elements in enhancing the learning
experience. As we celebrate these designs, we look forward to the positive
impact these teaching tools will have on the students at the Utah School for the
Deaf and Blind. Together, we're paving the way for a more accessible,

Algae....on algae?? Much like the materials we're replacing, pigments have
always been made from petroleum! Luckily, @livinginktech is doing something
about that with their algae-derived ink! Our talented team of designers have
taken innovation and renewable design to the next level by experimenting with
Living Ink's algae ink as a colorant for our algae-based cast polyurethane. The
dark pigment elevates any design, created with the Pollinator® Kit, while
increasing bio content and displacing petroleum. Check out these earring forms
that Mitch is experimenting with! The living ink black pigment really highlights
the unique texture of his mold. Oh and it's World Algae Day! We celebrate algae
every day we replace harmful fossil fuels with our more renewable materials.

Checkerspot recently partnered with HO Sports, a water sports company, to launch
their new Sabre water ski with a custom biobased foam core, derived from
microalgae oil. Collaborating with designers like Dave Wingerter, at HO Sports,
allows us to increase the use of biobased materials in industries that are
heavily reliant on fossil fuels. We're excited that this partnership resulted in
a lightweight ski that delivers higher compressive strength while doing less
harm. Inspired? Keep an eye out for ways that you can get your hands on
