Before you ask, yes I do own the game on PC. But I can't ignore the convenience
of console gaming, so when I see that Dark Arisen is currently on sale, I can't
help but wonder which of the big 3 is best to play the game through (and maybe I
would actually finish it this time).

It's actually been pretty difficult getting opinions on the performance of the
game on Xbox One X and PS4 Pro: the only thing I could find on Reddit is that
it's "30 fps" on the X. That aside, I also scored $5 in rewards points (another
reason that Gamepass is such a great value), so I can get the game for real
cheap right now if I wanted.

But despite knowing that the Switch version is the least best looking/performing
of the bunch, I also can't ignore the convenience of playing it on portable and
suspending it whenever I want. Dragon Quest XI doesn't have 4K or 60 fps, but
the Switch is absolutely the definitive way to play that game, imo.

So I just wanted some opinions. Also, is it best if I start it up on the highest
selectable difficulty? I found my last two runs to be an utter cakewalk most of
the time.

If you already have it on PC, unless you really want some achievements/trophies.
The switch version is the way to go IMO. It's a good port and the added
portability really props it up.

I played through it all last week on PS4 Pro and it ran fine.

Just go with the best sale in my opinion.

Sounds like you'd enjoy the Switch version, which is supposed to be a good port.

It's a solid 30fps on all consoles, even on the Pro/X for some reason, so you'll
only be looking for resolution and other graphical improvements vs portability
on switch.

Pretty standard stuff.

Switch version is my recommendation. I loved having the portability and it ran
great.

Played on Ps3, Pc and Switch and it's on the Switch version that I've managed to
finally complete it!

Ran really well. It is a very good port.

Playing in the train was really nice!

If the portability is a big deal for you, go for the Switch version. Graphically
it sits somewhere between the PS3 and PS4 versions and closer to the latter in
most aspects. The most noticeable "issues" are pop in as well as resolution in
handheld mode (576p).

If not, the drop from 60fps on PC to 30fps on console versions is the biggest
sacrifice you will have to make. Depending on how important that is to you, it
might not be worth it.

I want to play it at 60fps on my PC, but I can't get my PS4 controller to work.
I've tried ds4windows, but no luck. Has anyone played this on the PC with the
PS4 controller?

Just so you are aware if you have a Xbox One X that it is not X enchanted. PS4
Pro got a 1440p update, but for some reason Xbox got nothing. It’s 30fps on both
machines.

The Switch version isn’t terrible. My problem is that I buy things on switch for
the portability and then never play it portably. Maybe that’s just a me thing
though.

I played it awhile ago on PC and I’m 90% sure I was using a DualShock 4. I did
download a mod to change the prompts to PlayStation symbols.

Dragons Dogma is actually the only game I’ve ever modded outside of Mass Effect
2 (for controller support) in nearly 2 decades of gaming.
Spoiler: ...
Man, I’m getting old lol. I’ll be 30 soon ;_;

It's not that great looking in any version to be honest, the environments and
textures and backgrounds are fairly bare-bones with some notable exceptions. I
don't think the switch version will compromise anything of importance (assuming
it stays at a steady FPS, the fluid action and mechanics are the strength here)

Just run it through steam and let it handle PS4 controls, get a mod to change
the button prompts

with the switch version

I just tried it with ds4windows and it works fine, make sure "hide ds4
controller" is checked on the settings

I ended up getting it on Switch.

I tried Hard Mode off the gate, and switched to Normal after every single enemy
attack killed me.

Is it it meant to be one of those hard modes you play after you've leveled up
through the main story (New Game+)?

The portability might be worth much more than graphical performance for an RPG
like this. I can't finish really long games like RPGs on stationary systems, it
always feels like a drag after a few hours.

Save States or something similar is the one feature I want so bad for next gen
systems.

I never have to worry about putting a Switch game in rest mode, because even if
the power were to go out for a split second, the internal battery keeps that
save state safe.

All RPGs also need to have the ability to save anywhere. Heck, give us the
option to save during cutscenes while you're at it.

I own it everywhere and this is pretty much it. Play it on whatever has the
controller you like the most.

Hard Mode is initially more difficult due to enemy damage. In the long run Hard
Mode is better cause you gain extra exp and money on enemies, just depends if
you can push through the opening sections.

Solid choice, OP. I was going to recommend the PS360 versions but only because
the Berserk gear is included in only those versions. And yes, the game is quite
hard, so stick to normal until you've learned the mechanics.

The problem I saw initially is that the game gives no indication on enemy
levels, so I couldn’t tell if something was out of my league or just cannon
fodder.

How many levels would I need to not get instant killed by a freaking goblin?
Does Hard Mode even offer anything not found in Normal, or its just a simple
damage value increase?

Changes include:

1. Enemy damage is significantly increased.
2. Enemy Stagger and Knockdown resistance is tripled.
3. The Arisen's Stamina usage is accelerated.
4. Enemies drop proportionately more Gold when killed.
5. Experience Points, Discipline Points, and Rift Crystal earnings from the
Arisen's pawn's rentals are doubled.

That being said, you can do a new game plus on Hard Mode too.
