READ DIPLO'S NOTE ABOUT MAJOR LAZER'S 'LEAN ON' VIDEO HITTING 1 BILLION VIEWS

The funny thing about Diplo is that the songwriter/producer had an exceptional
2015 -- but his biggest accomplishments weren't realized under his name,
exactly. In Feburary, he joined up with Skrillex and Justin Bieber for the
mega-successful "Where Are Ü Now" (released under the moniker Jack Ü), and
later, his Major Lazer collab with DJ Snake and MØ, "Lean On" became Spotify's
top-streamed song of all time.

And as the accolades for "Lean On" -- one of our Best Songs Of 2015 -- keep on
coming well into the new year, Diplo is stepping up to say thanks.

The song's elaborately choreographed music video has now surpassed 1 billion
views, making it the 16th most-viewed video on YouTube, BuzzFeed points out. To
thank fans for helping take the video (and the song) to the top, Diplo penned a
lengthy note on Facebook, which he posted on Friday morning.

"My first instinct is that we honestly don't belong up here w Tay Tay, Katy
Perry, Justin, Psy and all these other videos in the 1 billion view club," Diplo
wrote, referencing his now-peers whose videos have all hit 1 billion views on
YouTube (Psy's "Gangnam Style" still sits at No. 1, with Taylor Swift's "Blank
Space" and Wiz Khalifa and Charlie Puth's "See You Again" coming in at two and
three, respectively).

Diplo mentions the making of the video and how it was dreamed up and created in
a very short amount of time ("Actually like 24 hours"). Most notably, he says
it's the first independent video to reach this milestone as the production team
used no "giant label" to plan it.

"Despite not having an elephant, somehow this video still made it to a billion
views and that's because of you! And just as importantly, we did it
independently, the first indie music video to actually hit this accomplishment,"
he wrote. "We are feeling like the rebel alliance against the death star of pop
youtube. One love."
