STUDENT SCHOLARSHIPS: NATIONAL RESEARCH CONFERENCE
NIJ’s 2024 National Research Conference will take place September 16-18 in
Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. We’re pleased to support the costs for up to 25
undergraduate and graduate students, including air and ground transportation, a
three-night hotel stay, federal per diem, and registration.

EVALUATING PROGRAMS TO PREVENT EXTREMISM
Over the past decade, NIJ has solicited cross-disciplinary studies to help us
understand the effectiveness of policies, programs, and initiatives to prevent
and counter violent extremism. Three studies offer key insights and recommended
practices for examining the effectiveness of these critical public safety
programs.

A special report presents a synthesis of select findings from NIJ-supported
research projects on public mass shootings, including school mass shootings, and

CRIMINAL JUSTICE DATA ARCHIVES(LINK IS EXTERNAL)
The National Archive of Criminal Justice Data archives data on crime and justice
and contains data from over 2,700 curated studies or statistical data series.
The website is home to several large-scale datasets, including the National
Crime Victimization Survey, FBI's Uniform Crime Reports and National
Incident-Based Reporting System, and the Project on Human Development in Chicago
Neighborhoods.

THE FIRST STEP ACT
The First Step Act of 2018 aims to reform the federal prison system and reduce
recidivism. NIJ is working to assess and develop an existing risk and needs
assessment system for incarcerated individuals, and develop recommendations
regarding effective evidence-based recidivism reduction programs and activities.
