Safe Place is committed to ending child sexual abuse in Maryland. It can be done if we, as adults, learn more about this crime of secrecy and take responsibility for protecting our children. At Safe Place we know far too well that children cannot protect themselves from sexual predators and need their families and communities to step in and protect them from abuse. Safe Place investigates more than 200 cases of child sex abuse each year. Supported by the generosity of the United Way, foundations, corporations and individuals as well as government grants, and the Washington County Department of Social Services, Safe Place has 11 years of experience in recognizing, responding to and reporting child abuse and utilizes this experience to conduct these detailed forensic interviews, prepare reports, and testify in criminal and civil proceedings regarding the child's interview, mental development and psychology of disclosures. OUR HISTORY We are dedicated to helping victims of child sexual abuse in Washington County…In 2001, Safe Place opened in response to growing awareness that sexually abused children were not only suffering the lasting effects of abuse, but they were also being re-victimized by the lengthy and often repetitive investigative process intended to help them. Safe Place has since developed a coordinated response that has resulted in timely, child-sensitive investigations of child sexual abuse in Washington County.
