<a name="600" id="600"></a>Visitor visa (subclass 600)
</h2>
<p>Applicants are strongly encouraged to read the additional information about the requirements for the Visitor visa (subclass 600) provided on the department's website before applying for this visa.</p>

<p> Please note that the Visitor visa does not permit the visa holder to work in Australia.</p>

<h3>Tourist stream</h3>
<p>The applicant can apply for a Visitor visa Tourist stream if they:</p>
<ul>
<li>
<p>are outside Australia and intend to visit as a tourist, for recreation or to visit family and/or friends; or</p>
</li>
<li>
<p>are inside Australia and intend to extend your stay for the purposes of tourism, recreation or to visit family and/or friends.</p>
</li>
</ul>
<p>
<strong>Note</strong>: holders of a United Nations Laissez-Passer travel document are eligible to apply for this stream when travelling on official United Nations business.

<h3>Sponsored Family stream</h3>
<p>The applicant can apply for a Visitor visa Sponsored Family stream if they:</p>
<ul>
<li>
<p>are outside Australia; and</p>
</li>
<li>
<p>intend to visit Australia for a holiday or to visit family and/or friends; and</p>
</li>
<li>
<p>have an eligible sponsor.</p>
</li>
</ul>

<p>The Sponsored Family stream requires applicants to be sponsored by a family member who is an Australian citizen or permanent resident. It has more restrictive conditions than the Tourist stream. In some cases, a security bond may
be requested. If you are planning to visit family, you can apply for the Tourist stream that does not require sponsorship or a bond.</p>
<p>The applicant should only apply for a Sponsored Family stream if they are not the holder of a passport of an ETA (Electronic Travel Authority) eligible country.</p>
<p>Sponsored Family stream applicants must be sponsored by an eligible relative. Attach form <a href="/form-listing/forms/1149.pdf">1149</a> to your application.</p>

<h3>Business Visitor stream</h3>
<p>The applicant can apply for the Visitor visa Business Visitor stream if they:</p>
<ul>
<li>
<p>are outside Australia; and</p>
</li>
<li>
<p>intend to visit Australia for business visitor purposes (business visitor activities do not include work).</p>
</li>
</ul>

<h3>Frequent Traveller stream (tourism or business purpose)</h3>
<p>This visa is available to eligible passport holders who:</p>
<ul>
<li>hold a passport from an eligible country</li>
<li>are outside Australia</li>
<li>intend to visit Australia as a tourist, for recreation or to visit family and/or friends; and/or</li>
<li>intend to visit Australia for business visitor purposes (business visitor activities do not include work).</li>
</ul>
<p>
<strong>Note</strong>: The Frequent Traveller Visitor stream allows a maximum validity period of 10 years, with 3 months' stay on each arrival and attracts a higher application charge.

SPONSORED FAMILY STREAM
The applicant can apply for a Visitor visa Sponsored Family stream if they:
* are outside Australia; and
* intend to visit Australia for a holiday or to visit family and/or friends;

* have an eligible sponsor.
