We are a small group of LGBTQ Asylum Seekers trapped in Kakuma Refugee Camp,
Kenya. We fled our home countries in fear of our lives, and being in this
horrible camp is a miserable existence.

INTRODUCTION

A miserable existence. October 2023. This new, safe and privately sponsored
website is our first opportunity to share publicly how horrible Kakuma Refugee
Camp is for lgbtq asylum seekers.

This is us, August 2023.

Our group photo, taken in August 2023. We are 14 adults and seven children.(Two
adults and one child were absent due to illness.)

We are in Kakuma Refugee Camp – Kakuma 2. Zone 1, Block 12, Northwest Kenya.
Africa.

Our website is safe to use. lgbtq-kakuma.com has been verified as authentic and
is protected by SiteLock Security.

WELCOME, AND THANK YOU FOR YOUR VISIT.

The purpose of this website is fourfold:

 * To raise global awareness of the LGBTQ situation here in Kakuma Refugee Camp.
 * Specifically, to focus on our group’s miserable existence.
 * Interact with LGBTQ-friendly people and countries around the world.
 * Seek funding via our GoFundMe platform to make our lives a little more
   comfortable.

All of us have fled from certain death. In our respective home countries,
homophobia is endemic throughout every corner of society. In this camp, we hoped
we would be safe, protected and cared for, until we achieved refugee status and
the opportunity to re-settle in a friendly LGBTQ country.

BUT WE ARE NOT SAFE, PROTECTED OR CARED FOR.

LGBTQ people are not welcome here. We are not safe to be here. And care and
protection from abuse and violence from other camp residents are non-existent.

The camp is under the protection of UNHCR (United Nations High Commission for
Refugees). They are very good at rhetoric, convincing the world by claiming the
rights and equality of LGBTQ people are valued and respected.

Amnesty International doesn’t think so.

WE ARE REAL PEOPLE. PLEASE READ WHAT WE HAVE TO SAY

Our profiles tell you a little about who we are. Each of us has a story to tell,
especially the life we had before we fled from persecution and certain death. We
want to show you we are human, with warmth in our hearts, and memories of
everything we loved and treasured, now lost for all time. Our Profiles

We all identify somewhere within the term LGBTQ+. Except of course the children,
here with their mothers and loved and protected by us all.

Read about our experiences and challenges here in Kakuma Camp. We exist rather
than live because we never have enough food. Our environment is grim, toxic, and
enforced. We are trapped, not permitted to work, and prohibited from leaving
until (if) we are accepted as refugees, and deemed suitable for asylum in a safe
third country. Read our main article: Camp Reality for LGBT

When you read these true accounts, you might understand our perception of a
miserable existence. You might also sense we are facing a wretched future.

WE ARE - UNLESS YOU CAN HELP

People like you can change that by:

 * Donating to our GoFundMe campaign to raise funds to buy extra food and
   medicines. Here’s the link> https://gofund.me/08294994
 * Talking with and interacting with us via our contact page. We’re friendly and
sincere and need to  know there are people who care.
 * Subscribing to our website to receive an email when we publish a new article
   or update on our situation.
 * Sharing this website with all your social platforms and contacts to help
connect us to a wider audience, a potential catalyst to making our lives a
little more comfortable, and giving us hope for a time when we actually do
escape from this existence of hate and misery.

THIS IS ABOUT US AS A GROUP. BUT WE'RE NOT ALONE.

There are many more LGBTQ+ people in this camp. Most are located in Kakuma 3,
block 13. The way accommodation gets allocated means we are isolated by distance
and any support they might receive from the outside world.

We really appreciate your attention. Thank you.
