Eid in the Square celebrations in London's iconic Trafalgar Square.

EID IN THE SQUARE 2022

Date: Saturday 07 May 2022
Time: 12:00pm to 6:00pm
Venue: Trafalgar Square, Westminster, London, WC2N 5DN, United Kingdom

Eid in the Square is back. 

This year will be the Mayor of London's 17th Eid in the Square and to celebrate
the return of major festivals to our great city and London's iconic Trafalgar
Square our theme is #LetsDoLondon. 

This unique cultural event marks the end of Ramadan, the holy month of fasting.
Developed in partnership with London based arts, culture and grass roots Muslim
organisations this vibrant festival brings communities, families and friends
together to enjoy the celebrations.

The Main Stage will be hosted by award winning actor, filmmaker and BBC Asian
Network presenter Mistah Islah alongside former teacher and trailblazing
broadcaster Mehreen Baig and features a mix of traditional and contemporary acts
including Baha Yetin Sufi Ensemble, Nafees Ifran & Qalandar Qawwali Band, Dur
Dur Band, Star Children’s Choir and the Original Mummy’s Boy, spoken word poet
Hussain Manawer. 

Plus watch out for comedy sketch favourites The Halalians live on stage for the
first time here at Eid in the Square.

Alif carnival company will be bringing a sea of stunning Eid Costumes to the
Square - a great opportunity for a selfie.

We’ve a feast of global food stalls to tempt you with including Indian street
food from Mr Bombay, silk road delights from Oshpaz Uzbek Street Food,
Venezualan fayre from Pebellon and Somali treats from Hooyo East.

Plus, Grammy award-winning producer Naughty Boy will be spicing things up in his
Naughty Boy Kitchen pop up serving signature dishes fusing his British
upbringing and Pakistani heritage in partnership with Spice Village. A full list
of caterers can be found below.

There will be a hive of activities across the Square including WAW Creative Art
Zone with calligraphy, storytelling, drama and poetry workshops as well as a
large art wall for you to add your splash of creativity too, the Somali Mobile
Museum inviting you to share your stories, plus Mehndi and Face Painting.

We’ve some fun sporting activities too with Muslim Girls Fence and Sisterhood FC
who will be running interactive sessions throughout the day and you  can become
a scientist and investigate how moon craters are formed in Phases of the Moon
presented by Shade 7 Publishing and Kidwise.

The North Terrace hosts a number of stalls including Desi Doll Company, Vennuss
clothing, Yunus Emre Institute London, Islamic Art Prints and many more. A full

And, did you know that Trafalgar Square was rich in Muslim history?  Halal
Tourism Britain will be running free 20-minute bite-sized tours Muslim Stories
of Trafalgar Square on the hour from 12:30pm – 5:30pm.

steering the GLA to deliver Eid in the Square successfully for London and its
communities.

Abubakar Adam
Abu is the Regional Engagement Manager for British Red Cross - Voluntary
Community Sector Emergency Response and an active member of The Association for
Research on Nonprofit Organisations and Voluntary Action, Chairman of Al Nagashi
Mosque and Community Centre and Chairman of the 17th Lambeth Scout Groups -
South London.

experience in event management and the charitable sector.
