It’s not the sustainability issue. These are equally troubling - it’s the investor dollar issue. Investors are pushing the market towards AI to inflate their investments in every aspect. Frankie Huang 黄碧赤 @ourobororoboruo.bsky.social · 2d Real life is not like science fiction, where the power usage required for processing rarely, if ever, factors into the plot. I still care very much about the ethics of AI usage but I really think its environmental and infrastructural impact desperately needs more exposure. AI Needs So Much Power, It’s Making Yours Worse There’s a strong link between proximity to AI data centers and higher levels of distorted power in residential areas www.bloomberg.com 4 7 17 Reposted by Zen Mouse Charlotte Lydia Riley @lottelydia.bsky.social · 13d Rachel de Souza makes the key point here: in the current legislative regime, children have fewer rights than adults. Hitting another adult is assault. But in England, hitting your child is fine, as long as it comprises 'reasonable punishment': which can include hitting that leaves a mark or bruise. ZÖMBY WOOF @steveshark.bsky.social · 13d Call me a soft, woke, permissive liberal, but I can't see how it should be legal in any way for an adult to inflict corporal punishment on a child. Once more, no one seems to have the balls to actually make a decision on this issue - apart from waiting to see how someone else has dealt with it. I know I keep sharing it, but I just hope it brings joy when people see it. Surely there can't be a justification for this kind of "creative accounting" Andrew Sissons @acjsissons.bsky.social · 20d Extraordinary story from BBC Panorama, which claims Severn Trent Water has invented a £1.68bn “asset”, and is paying out more in dividends than it’s making in profit… www.bbc.co.uk/news/article... They’re about to undertake a frankly ridiculous journey – tiny slips of things flying to Africa. Africa. Southern Africa, at that. I mean, come on.
