Coaching w/ Andy Erstellt mit Bild zum Verschieben ziehen COACHING W/ ANDY Hi there! I'm Andy Chu, a product management leader based in Los Angeles. I have over 9 years of experience in B2B SaaS product management. My expertise is in early-stage startups, health-tech, and mar-tech. I’ve been the first PM hire at 3 different startups. I’ve built product teams from ground zero, and rescued troubled ones in the middle of a crisis. Let’s talk about how I can level up you and your organization. MY SPECIALTIES As a coach, I partner with … First-Time People Managers. Managing others is very different from being an individual contributor. Even if you’re great at being the best manager for you, that can be different from being the best manager for your team. I can help you build trust and rapport quickly. We'll practice situational leadership, adjusting your style for what each direct report needs. First Product Managers Hires. Being the first PM hire is PM-ing without a safety net. You need to balance writing PRDs while also setting the foundation for a product team. I can help you make sure you're keeping all of your proverbial plates spinning. We'll also cover what processes you need to put in place, versus those that should wait. Setting up your data stack. Quality, timely data is critical for quality, timely decisions. I can help you setup your full data stack. That includes analytics, ETL pipeline, data warehouse, and KPI metric dashboards. I can craft with you a metrics strategy that gives you a complete 360° view of the state of your business. We'll create a stack that is both to maintain and accessible for non-technical teams. WHAT I CAN DO FOR YOU As a leadership coach, I can … Give you tailored suggestions on how to approach a problem. Offer an objective perspective, insulated from interpersonal work drama. Create a safe space to be vulnerable without career repercussions. Hold you accountable while managing your pacing. You’re challenged beyond your perceived limits, but not overwhelmed. MY VALUES Here are my core values that guide how I approach every coaching relationship. Kind, not nice. When giving feedback, I balance between building trust and speaking truth. We’re human, our emotions matter. We need to feel settled and safe before we can make change. But I also will challenge you, and push you to confront tough issues and discussions head-on. Works in progress. It’s not a secret, we all are not perfect. I’ll be open that I might not be right, and that we will need to build your leadership style while flying. And in doing so, I want to mirror for you how to do the same for your team. Our goal is to get your team to trust you. Not because you have all the answers, but because you’re willing to work with them to find the truth. Finding win-wins. I build up leaders that look for win-wins. Opportunities where we can build people up while still satisfying company goals. Doing what’s right for people while ignoring company dynamics is unsustainable. Focusing on company goals at the expense of people is cruel. Let’s strike a balance between the two. Pragmatic. Whether we like it or not, we operate in a capitalist society. I focus on how we can make the best of our situation. It might not be ideal, but I think it’s important to do what we can get done today. Socratic. I like to talk things out. Product management is notorious for not have wrong answers, just wrong situations. There will be written materials to go over the broad topics. But I believe true learning happens as we discuss through the nuances of the pros and cons of each lesson. TESTIMONIALS > “Session with Andy helped alleviate my imposter syndrome a lot. For employer-sponsored coaching, what we discuss will always remain confidential. I will not disclose or share anything with your employer without your prior consent. Ready to start? Schedule your introductory call with me. ALT FAQ’S WHAT CAN I EXPECT IF WE WORK TOGETHER? If we work together, here’s what you can expect. Introductory Call I’ll jump on a call with you to learn what challenges you’re facing and why you’re seeking coaching to tackle them. You’ll get a chance to learn more about my coaching style and what lessons I have to offer. We’ll then see if there’s a good fit for us. There’s no charge for this session. At this point, you'll decide if you want to work with me. Regardless of whom, I'd encourage you to evaluate a coach based on three criteria. First, do you have a rapport with them? Second, do they have a perspective you find interesting? Finally, is this someone you can have tough conversations with? Onboarding Period Our first sessions will focus on setting your goals and desired outcomes. 360° Feedback I’ll collect 360° feedback on your behalf. I'll talk to both previous and current coworkers that you nominate. I’ll seek to understand what you did well, what you could do better, and read between the lines of how we can level you up. Coaching Roadmap We’ll set up a coaching roadmap that will act like a mini-career plan for you. It’ll cover what growth areas we want to tackle, and what milestones we’d like to hit. Regular 1:1’s, weekly or every 2 weeks We’ll hold regular 1:1’s at either weekly or every 2 week intervals. I’ll mirror for you how to run your own 1:1’s. We’ll talk about what’s top of mind, and check-in on your growth areas. I’ll also be your accountability partner for your action items. You’ll have access to our private space for us to document our sessions. That access will be available to you both during and after our coaching engagement. In that space, we'll share a living agenda. It will include our notes, action items, and you can add talking points for our next session. An AI notetaker will join us. We can focus on talking through the nuances, and less about remembering all the details. WHAT OTHER CLIENTS HAVE YOU WORKED WITH? CEO 360° FEEDBACK + ORG ROADMAP Two Bit Circus Foundation (2BCF) is a non-profit providing STEAM curriculum and activities. Their focus is underserved, public schools in Los Angeles. I started working with 2BCF’s CEO as the org underwent a huge transition. Their long-time COO was leaving. This shifted roles and responsibilities. It also introduced new directors who were new to people management. This moment was an opportunity for 2BCF to take an introspective look. My focus was to help 2BCF reflect on what made it successful, and what growing pains were holding it back. I completed a 360° feedback listening tour, collecting feedback from every full-time employee. I presented what I found and suggested several growth opportunities. After, I trained 2BCF staff to implement several of my suggestions. DATA WAREHOUSE AND ETL SETUP AUDIENCEX is an ad media agency based in Los Angeles. I was brought in as an outside consultant as AUDIENCEX was switching ad-buy platforms. The migration would mean losing access to their historical ad performance data. The team needed to archive the data in an accessible format so they could use it in future campaigns. Multiple spreadsheets in Google Drive was not going to cut it. AUDIENCEX also had to use a data warehouse that could be used by employees who could not code or write SQL. I implemented a no-code ETL platform, storing their data in a BigQuery data warehouse. I also built a user interface with Retool. The data stack I build was low-maintenance. Any updates or fixes required could be down by employees without coding skills. Powered by Fruition
