(Steve Sadin / Lake County News-Sun) When Lindsay Meltzer ushered approximately 100 people into the basement of Bright Bowls — the business she has operated on Central Avenue — to escape a gunman in downtown Highland Park on July 4, she did not think she was doing anything special. “I did what anyone else would have done,” Meltzer said. Lucy Pinkwater, a teacher in Los Angeles and a Highland Park High School classmate of Meltzer, did not think getting young children into a circle to calm them after they fled the shooter was an extraordinary act, either.
