Countering Violent Extremist use of the Internet

The Internet and social media are factors enabling violent extremist
organizations (VEOs) in Central Asia. They have been identified as a channel of
recruitment –  including for foreign fighters for the conflict in Syria and
Iraq. But what is the scale, scope, and impact of the Internet on the
recruitment of extremists into VEO? How effective is the Internet as a tool of
recruitment, propaganda, and control in the hands of banned extremist groups in
Central Asia?
