Funny videos about cats? An intriguing explanation about how the Arctic got its
name? Or a breaking news story about a devastating earthquake? Whatever is most
likely to grab your attention, you can be certain someone, somewhere has made a
social media “Story” about it. 

You’ve probably seen them every time you open your Facebook or Instagram page.

Stories are short and engaging ‘vertical’ video packages which anyone can
produce and publish to a social media platform - if they know how. And major
news organisations are increasingly joining in.

In fact, “vertical” stories have become so popular that many social media
platforms now have dedicated sections where you can both read and publish them.

Whether you are new to journalism with a specific interest in digital and social
media reporting, or whether you are a veteran correspondent who’d like to learn
a valuable new skill, this course, written by Konstantinos Antonopoulos, and
presented by me, Awad Joumaa, is for you. 

Over the next 16 lessons, we will take you step by step through the ins and outs
of planning, building and publishing a social media Story with the skill and
professionalism of a newsroom. Let’s get started.

 * The basics of using storyboard applications or how to work without a
   storyboard.
 * The basics of filming with a mobile phone.
 * How to use typography and stickers.
 * How to film vertical videos.
 * How to use apps.
 * The skills of doing takeovers and live streams.

Behavioural Skills

     The trainee will learn:

 * How to go about telling stories from the field.
 * The basics of measuring your story’s performance and impact.
