What was Telangana Police doing in Vadodara? Here is the truth...




New Delhi: Ever since the beginning of this month, a video has gone viral on the
internet that showed a nocturnal police action. The video was shared with
headlines in English and Hindi, claiming to be the aftermath of Ram Navami
violence in Gujarat's Vadodara.






The video showed police units, donning riot gear, dragging a few youngsters out
of their homes and baton-charging them on the narrow alleys before arresting
them.






Was the video really shot from Vadodara as claimed? There were a few elements in
the viral video that suggested otherwise.

Did Vadodara witness trouble?


Yes. According to the latest reports, the police have arrested 40 people
belonging to two communities for various incidents of violence related to Ram
Navami celebrations.


Decoding the video


A closer look at the viral video revealed the registration plate of one of the
police vehicles on the spot. 39 seconds into the 2-minute-long video, the number
plate of the vehicle becomes visible. The registration began with 'TS' --
indicating that it belonged to the Telangana Police and not their counterparts
in Gujarat.
A Google search showed that 'TS-09' belongs to Hyderabad Central RTO.

At the beginning of the video, a signboard becomes visible as the police dragged
a youth away. The board in blue read "SHAFFAF".

A search on Google for commercial joints with the same name in Hyderabad
revealed a location in the city with similar alleys as those seen in the video.


The address read: SHAFFAF Packaged Drinking Water,Asha Talkies Rd, Roop Lal
Bazar, Qazipura, Shalibanda, Hyderabad. Google Maps also had a 360-degree view
of the location to show.


20 seconds into the video, a youth was seen being taken beyond a junction near
the "SHAFFAF" board. The junction had a cable box attached to a pole and a few
shops adjacent to it. The same shops were spotted on Google Maps near the
Shaffaf outlet.

This established beyond doubt that the video was from Telangana and not Vadodara
or any parts of Gujarat as claimed in the now viral posts.


What happened in Hyderabad?


The video dates back to August 2022, when BJP MLA T Raja Singh, who now stands
suspended, released a video allegedly making derogatory statements against the
Prophet. There were protests across Hyderabad demanding action against the
leader, reports said.


A reverse search of the viral video's keyframes revealed a fact check report by
India Today. It had an NDTV tweet from August 25, 2022, that showed the same
video as from Hyderabad. "Protestors gathered at Shalibanda in Hyderabad last
night over alleged remarks of suspended BJP leader T Raja Singh on
#ProphetMuhammad; police used force to restrain them," the tweet was captioned.






This confirmed that the viral tweets are spreading misinformation as the video
is unrelated to the recent unrest in Vadodara.
