VAHS ATHLETICS & ACTIVITIES UPDATES

Congratulations to our new
Varsity Head Football Coach
Andrew Riley!



First of all, LET’S GO CATS!

I am extremely excited and honored to be the next Head Football Coach at Verona
Area High School, and honestly, for the whole district. I am grateful for all of
the character, leadership, and relationship-building that coaches like Dave
Richardson, Scott Cramer, and Andy Kruger have established in the last
twenty-plus years to build this incredible program. For the last eight years, I
have been able to learn from these great coaches and cannot wait to keep
building our VAHS football program. Our program will continue to be all about
providing the tools and experiences for our student-athletes to be successful
both on and off the field. 

My journey started in West Allis, WI and I owe who I am as a person to the two
wonderful women who were the most influential in my life; my mother Maureen and
my Aunt Mary. They helped develop my character and introduced me to the
wonderful sport of football. I graduated from West Allis Nathan Hale High School
and went on to graduate on the Dean’s List from the University of
Wisconsin-Madison. During my student-teaching in Verona at Country View
Elementary, I was able to build a bond with the area, my students, and the
school district. I am extremely lucky to have an incredible support system that
has been built around me, led by my girlfriend Mary Kate and the PE/Athletics
department here.

I am currently in my sixth year as a Physical Education and Health Education
teacher at VAHS, after spending two years at Country View.  I’ve coached
basketball and baseball for VAHS at the sub-varsity levels, but this next
football season will mark my ninth season in the football program. I’m grateful
for the yearly opportunities I’ve had to learn and progress from a freshman
volunteer assistant to the varsity head coach. I can promise that our Wildcats
will always push, fall, and fail forward. That means we will work hard to earn
what we get, always leave things better than we found them, and use our mistakes
to learn instead of being afraid to make them. We will seek to make our school,
our community, and ourselves proud every single day. 

I look forward to seeing you in the stands on a Friday night, but most
importantly being able to see you in our communities that make up the Verona
Area!

VASD COVID-19 Mitigation Update (2/22/2022)

Effective March 1, 2022, and in alignment with public health, VASD will adhere
to the new guidance by making face coverings highly encouraged and recommended,
rather than required, in all school buildings (students, coaches, staff,
officials, spectators, etc.) 

 

VAHS SPORT OFFERINGS DOCUMENT




2020 WIAA Division 1 State Hockey Champions

Verona Area High School currently offers 22 athletics programs to our students.
Each program consists of a varsity team, junior varsity team and in some cases
include multiple freshman teams. Our coaching staff consists of 75 coaches
passionate about sports and students.

Athletes must complete a physical examination, a concussion release, and an
emergency contact form to participate in these activities. An athletic fee is
also required, which varies depending on the number of sports a student
participates in and how many family members are involved.

Verona Area High School welcomes you to our athletic website. We remind you that
interscholastic events are an extension of the classroom, and lessons are best
learned when respect is shown to all.

Please, show good sportsmanship during games and show respect for coaches,
players, officials, and fans.

Cheer for your team and not against the opposing team. Avoid profanity, racist;
sexist; or ethnic comments; or other intimidating or taunting actions. Let the
coaches coach, the officials officiate and the players play.
