OUR MISSION

The mission of South Christian High School is to equip students to live
Christ-centered lives and serve God to their greatest potential. It is a safe
place where students grow and belong. The rich curriculum, thriving fine arts
program, and strong athletic tradition are all designed to inspire and encourage
students to play a part in God’s story of redemption.

Our Faith


THE SOUTH CHRISTIAN EXPERIENCE

South Christian is a private school dedicated to educating young people from a
Reformed Christian perspective. It is a place where Christian values and
principles are incorporated with rigorous academic study and extracurricular
challenges to prepare students to be competent, contributing members of society.


ANCHORED IN COMMUNITY

An important aspect of South Christian is the relationships that are built, both
with other classmates as well as teachers. Class lessons are designed to have
students working together in a variety of learning spaces. Sports, drama,
robotics, music, Young Life, and other clubs offer students opportunities
outside the classroom to develop their gifts. Parents, alumni, and other
supporters are also a vital part of the South Christian faith community.


TEACHING FOR TRANSFORMATION

Teaching for Transformation is a design framework for the creation of authentic,
formational learning experiences rooted in a transformational worldview. The
staff incorporates this by teaching students about God’s world, inviting
students into God’s story, nurturing students to live faithfully all their
lives, and empowering students to serve the real needs of people.


WHAT SETS US APART

Our teachers are highly qualified and care deeply about the content of their
classes. The difference is that they also teach students how to think and why
their education matters. Students leave the classroom not only with new
information but also with new skills and abilities that empower them to continue
being lifelong learners and disciples. They also receive a sense of purpose:
that their academics are equipping them spiritually to live out their callings
and use their gifts and abilities, all to the glory of God.




Where We’re Located

Our school is conveniently located in the southeast corner of Kent County, just
a few minutes drive to many adjoining neighborhoods within Greater Grand Rapids,
Kentwood, Byron Center, Cutlerville, Caledonia, and Wyoming. We take pride in
our new, state-of-the-art building, generously funded through community
donations. Our new facilities, completed in December 2018, provide a safe and
inspiring environment for our students and staff.

WHAT PARENTS ARE SAYING

We are thankful that the Lord led us to a school where God’s Word is woven into
the curriculum. It is our hope that our son’s character continues to be molded
daily at South Christian and that he will grow to be a man ready to be a light
for Christ in today’s world."

Our family has had an exceptional experience at South Christian. We have hosted
international students and our daughter attends the school. We appreciate the
Biblical worldview in every subject. We have been especially grateful for the
extracurricular activities. All of the coaches have genuinely cared about our
kids and have taught them valuable life lessons. We are thankful as parents to
have teachers and coaches partner with us to prepare our children for life."

Seeing your children learn and grow during their high school years is great for
any parent, but seeing what is going on at South Christian is AMAZING! We are

We are seeking applicants for a Girls Varsity Basketball Coach beginning
immediately.

South Christian’s basketball program has a proud tradition of excellence on and
off the court. We are seeking a head coach who demonstrates a passion for Jesus
Christ along with the ability to sustain and build on the success of this
program. A successful candidate will be able to share how they will use the game
of basketball as a training ground to mentor student athletes to become more
like Christ.

We are seeking applicants for a Director of the 2023 Fall Play. We are seeking
candidates who demonstrate a passion for Jesus Christ and can engage young
people in an environment that is relationally excellent while also leading the
group to a successful and beautiful final product.

The show will be chosen by the director in conjunction with the school
administration. Tryouts are held in August, and the show is scheduled for
November 9, 10, and 11. This position is paid by stipend upon the completion of
the show.

More on how the swing for Charlie came about...

At South Christian High School and Legacy Christian School it is our shared
desire to mirror Jesus’ heart for inclusion and belonging. This past school
year, Legacy and South connected over a shared need. South Christian High School
- Industrial Technology teaches construction skills while addressing real needs
in our community. Legacy had a need and desire to make their playground more
inclusive.

Violet Jansen, a sophomore, chose to lead the fabricating of an adaptive swing
for one of her projects in her Advanced Metals class. With the help of other
classmates and instructors, the adaptive swing was made for Charlie, a Legacy
student, who uses a wheelchair. The swing provides adaptive play equipment for
Charlie and the opportunity for more peer play on the playground!

We are thrilled with how SCHS and LCS worked together to reach one goal! And
Charlie is happy too!

Orders are due in the business office on either Monday or Tuesday (see below) by
9:00 AM and will be available for pickup at 8:00 AM Thursday morning. The office
is open until 1:00 PM on Thursdays during June and July.
