OUR PURPOSE:

In 2017, realizing the ever-present danger of human trafficking of at-risk young
girls, Outreach for Nazareth Orphanage (OFNO) initiated a fundraising campaign
“Girls Everywhere Matter” (GEM) to raise $750,000 for the development of
additional campus facilities beginning with a dormitory and dining facility
designed to accommodate up to 50 young orphaned girls for the first time at the
Nazareth Orphanage in Tecate, Mexico.  These facilities will provide the girls
with the same safety and life-sustaining necessities as the orphaned boys.

WAYS TO SUPPORT OFNO

Outreach For Nazareth Orphanage (OFNO) is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization
that works to support the fundraising and volunteer efforts that benefit all
at-risk young boys and girls at the Nazareth Orphanage in Tecate, Mexico.  
OFNO’s efforts help the Sisters of the Sacred Heart and of the Poor provide a
safe home environment as well as other necessities needed to support the
children.

‍THE PROBLEM ONLY CONTINUES TO GROW. HERE'S WHY WE NEED YOUR HELP:

Mexico is an origin, transit and destination country for trafficking victims.
Investigations have risen by one third in the last few years, but the country is
having trouble tackling the problem. All of us can do our part to save one child
at time.

that are helping orphans and families everyday.

VOLUNTEER WITH OFNO AND EXPERIENCE
COMPASSION IN MOTION

Four Saturdays during the school year, OFNO volunteers travel to Nazareth
Orphanage in Tecate, Mexico to participate in a day of volunteering alongside
the children and Sisters. The daylong trips begin early in the morning, and
volunteers return to San Diego that same day. Volunteers help with maintenance
projects such as gardening or painting the facilities. We are so grateful to
those that assist, and no experience is necessary. Help us make a difference!

Our trips for the next school year are scheduled for January 15, 2022 and March
26, 2022. (Note: Trips may be canceled due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Please
check our Website often for updated information.)

NOTE: The Outreach For Nazareth Orphanage board met to discuss the current
situation at the border and our ability to travel safely. Reluctantly, because
of the ongoing pandemic and some other logistical issues, we will be unable to
travel to Tecate on November 13, 2021, as planned. This trip has been cancelled.

In the meantime, we received some good news. The hours at the border crossing in
Tecate will be extended from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. as of November 7, 2021. We also
had the opportunity to travel to the orphanage to discover what repairs and
construction are needed. As a result of our visit, we have developed a project
list that we will post before we go on our next trip. Please keep checking the
Website to sign up for your favorite project.

Our next trip is scheduled for January 15, 2022. It is our annual Epiphany
celebration with the children commemorating the presence of Christ and the
peaceful giving of gifts by the Magi. Teri Strohm will be our new Angel Project
Coordinator. Sometime in December, she will be contacting all of us with
information about how to choose a gift for a special child. Please look for
further information in the coming months on our Website.
