Players of People’s Postcode Lottery have transformed lives and helped great
causes, including Dogs Trust – a charity dedicated to bringing about the day
when all dogs can live a long and happy life.

IN DOGS WE TRUST

Every 6 minutes, Dogs Trust gets a call from someone who wants or needs to give
up their four-legged friend.

Sadly, many of these dogs are given up due to behavioural problems that could
have been prevented from developing.

It takes a team of passionate behaviourists and a lot of love to get these
unwanted pets ready for living in a new home. 

Worryingly, online searches by those wanting to give up their dog peak in
January. This year, Dogs Trust wants to remind people that “A dog is for life,
not just for Christmas®.”

Here are just some of the heart-warming stories from inside the centres this
festive season – and the dogs looking for a lifetime home.





ADORABLE DOGS LOOKING FOR A FOREVER HOME



Meet Archie – he’s a gentle giant with a huge amount of character. He has a
sensitive side, so it may take several meetings before he reveals all his
wonderful ways to you. As well as adoring spending time with his favourite
people, this four-year-old Lurcher enjoys indulging in tasty treats, going for
walks with his canine chums and relaxing on his duvet with a long-lasting chew.

Eight-year-old German Shepherd Ramsey is a loving older gentleman, but don't let
that fool you – he has plenty of energy and enthusiasm! Sadly, he’s in kennels
because he didn’t get along with the cat and the other dog in his previous home.
That means he’ll need to be the only pet in your home so he can enjoy your
company and all the toys you can offer him – especially squeaky ones he can play
fetch with! → Meet Ramsay at Harefield

Yoda is a lovely two-year-old crossbreed looking for patient owners who can help
him build his confidence and realise that the world is a great place with lots
of interesting places to explore and enjoy. He’s a friendly lad, so, while he
may take his time getting to know you, having this boy as a four-legged

Noah is a fun-loving two-year-old American Bulldog who is ready to head off to
his forever home, which he’d be happy to share with another dog. He loves
nothing more than a day trip in the car with the promise of an exciting
adventure at the end of it. He adores playing with his toys and learning new
things in return for a tasty treat. → Meet Noah at Manchester

Four-year-old Poodle cross Angus is as bright as a button! He’s a clever lad and
loves to put his busy mind to good use through activities such as agility
training. He might be small, but he certainly isn’t a lap dog! Angus can be shy
when meeting new people, so you’ll need to come along to the centre to meet him
several times to build a bond and take a hands-off approach until he gets to
know you. He needs a quiet home with understanding owners who can help him know
he’s safe when he’s feeling insecure. → Meet Angus at Bridgend

Dory is a gorgeous, two-year-old crossbreed who's looking for her special
forever home. She enjoys getting outside for interesting walks and sharing
playtime with her friends. She loves her toys, especially tennis balls or
anything soft and squeaky. She can be a little shy when meeting people for the
first time, but as long as you can take everything at her pace, she soon comes
around and is keen to interact with you. → Meet Dory at Salisbury

Bear is a handsome three-year-old Siberian Husky who’s looking for a loving
home. He’s a happy, friendly boy who has a real zest for life. He absolutely
adores his toys and fetch is one of his favourite games. Bear really thrives on
company of people and would make a brilliant companion for an active family. He
enjoys the company of other dogs on his walks, but prefers his own space in the
home environment, so he’ll need to be the only pet in his new home, where he can

Maisie, a nine-year-old lively Lurcher with ‘super speed’, is on a quest to find
a new home. Her unusual face markings, which have the appearance of a superhero
mask, have led to her being given the nickname Marvellous Maisie by staff at the
centre.  She can be shy at first when meeting new people, but soon makes friends
and is a very affectionate girl. Everyone who meets her finds she’s stolen their
heart with her phenomenal zest for life and her fun personality. → Meet Maisie

Sprite is a lovely lady who’s looking for a home suitable for a Sighthound. She
can get very excited around small furry animals, so needs an environment with no
other pets and an owner who has experience with her breed. The three-year-old
Lurcher is a very enthusiastic girl who enjoys doing agility activities and
would love to continue this in her new home as she’s so good at it. An active
family would be best for Sprite, to keep her mentally and physically busy. She
could live with children over the age of 16 and would need a large, secure
garden with a 6ft fence to play in. → Meet Sprite at Glasgow

Harvey, an eight-month-old Whippet cross, is a bundle of fun! He loves to
investigate, chase, play, eat and sleep This enthusiastic boy’s antics will keep
you laughing and smiling. He’s a joy to be around and is always up for good fun
or a gentle fuss. Harvey is a gorgeous boy who will thrive in an active home
with patient owners who are willing to work on his training and channelling his
energy into brain games, training and appropriate play. → Meet Harvey at Newbury

This Collie cross has lots of energy, so is looking for owners who can give him
lots of opportunities to express his active nature. If you’re keen on getting
involved with reward-based training and enjoy adventure, this is the dog for
you. Despite his happy-go-lucky character, he has a sensitive side – his new
family will need to get to know him over several meetings, and he'll need
support around handling, car travel and traffic. He’ll need to be the only pet
at home, but loves the company of other dogs out on walks. → Meet Dexter at
Shoreham

One-year-old Labrador cross Bruno is a playful boy who’s looking for an
experienced, adult-only home. He’s wary of new people, so he’ll need to live in
a rural location where he won’t encounter too many strangers and can feel
relaxed and undisturbed. He’s a work-in-progress and will need dedicated and
patient owners who are willing to work with our training team to help him become
the best boy he can be. Bruno will make a wonderful and rewarding project! →

HOW ARCHIE GOT A NEW COAT



Meet little Archie, a loveable West Highland Terrier who had a tricky start in
life.

He came into the care of the Glasgow Rehoming Centre with an ear infection and a
fungal skin infection so bad it caused him to lose much of his coat.

Months on, after going through recovery treatment and supportive foster care,
Archie is in both good health and good spirits.  

On a recent visit to the vet at Dogs Trust, he was spotted in reception by
Anne-Marie, who had been looking for a Westie for some time. It was love at
first sight and the pair are now inseparable!

> “He’s settled in so well and brings such a presence to my home. Like a lot of
> Terriers, he likes to let people know he’s there and isn’t afraid of anything.
> In fact, despite his small size, I think he’d have no problem facing Goliath!”

In even more good news, now his coat has fully recovered, Archie has just
received his first haircut in his new home.





GOODBYE, RUBY TUESDAY



Just like her namesake, Ruby Tuesday had been a bit of a ‘Rolling Stone’ in life
and recently found herself in the care of Dogs Trust for the second time. 

The 12-year-old Patterdale Terrier returned to Dogs Trust after six years in a
home, owing to a change in her owner’s circumstances. 

She remained in the care of Dogs Trust West London for several months and was
taken care of there by the vet team and canine carers, because, in her old age,
she was living with a number of health conditions.

However, after treatment, and with a wag of her tail, it was time for Ruby
Tuesday to find her next home.

> “Adopting an OAP (an Old Aged Pooch!) is so rewarding and has many advantages.
> They have fully formed personalities and are often calmer, so need slightly
> less exercise, but still love to learn.”

Luckily, Mr and Mrs Stevens walked through the door and fell in love with her
and it was time to say, ‘Goodbye, Ruby Tuesday’ once again. 

She’s finally found a permanent home to settle into during her twilight years,
proving age really is just a number!





THE PAWFECT FRIENDSHIP BETWEEN GEMMA AND TOMMY



The tale of Gemma and Tommy began in January 2017. 

Tommy struggled to be around  people and was often uncomfortable and uneasy. 

The loveable pooch needed special care and support – and that’s where Dogs Trust
came in.

His transformation has been achieved with the care and support of dedicated Dogs
Trust staff such as Gemma. 

A dedicated canine carer, she transformed his often restless nature through lots
of TLC and training in a positive and stimulating environment. 

“Tommy came to our rehoming centre in Salisbury in January 2017,” says Gemma.
“He struggled with his reactions to strangers and other dogs, and would often
grab out of frustration.

“He had intensive training,” she explains, ”and proved to be super-clever and
fun to work with. We were able to muzzle-train him, which made it a lot easier –
he was actually really comfortable wearing a muzzle. We also worked on how he
mixed with other dogs and practised introducing him to new members of staff.
This massively reduced his reactivity to people.”

Before long, Tommy had made tremendous progress and was ready to find a new
home.

Tommy’s new family dote on the four-year-old, saying he loves a good snuggle.

The loveable lap dog has come such a long way and now, thanks to the tireless
work of the Dogs Trust team, he’s now happily settled with his new family.





PLAYERS OF PEOPLE'S POSTCODE LOTTERY ARE MAKING A HUGE DIFFERENCE




People’s Postcode Lottery is about so much more than just knocking on doors with
the good news that someone is a winner. 

Thanks to the players, it has raised £500m so far for charities and good causes
across the UK and beyond.

In 2013, it set out on a mission to support Dogs Trust in its vision to improve
the dog-welfare landscape in the UK.

> do a reality, not just for our four-legged friends, but also for thousands of
> adults and children in the wider community.”

Their support has had a lasting impact on Dogs Trust’s work, and the
relationship continues to go from strength to strength. The money raised so far
has allowed the charity to invest in additional highly skilled and passionate
staff in its rehoming centres. All of them play a vital role in ensuring dogs of
all shapes, sizes and ages receive all the TLC they need. 

The funds have also aided the charity in improving its facilities, such as the
current redevelopment of its Darlington centre into a world-class facility, and
helped towards rehoming tens of thousands of dogs. Since the partnership began,
the charity has also seen an 84% decrease in the number of stray dogs put to
sleep and has established the Dogs Trust Dogs School.

This incredible feat wouldn’t be possible without the players of People’s
Postcode Lottery. A minimum of 32% of each £10 subscription sold goes to
charities that help not only our four-legged friends, but also many other
projects in our wider community.
