JAMIE BEAMISH – ARTIST IN RESIDENCE

Jamie Beamish, a Waterford native, has been named the Theatre Royal’s first ever
‘artist in residence.’
Join Jamie Beamish live from the Theatre Royal as he talks about his highlights
of 2021, including the massive success of Bridgerton, a return to Derry Girls,
and becoming the first ever artist in residence at the theatre where he was
first bitten by the acting bug, almost 30 years ago.

In the summer of 2021, Jamie started to create a new piece of theatre for and
about Waterford. Jamie will also participate in an engagement and mentoring
program with second-level students in Waterford during his nine-month stay at
the Theatre Royal, passing on his expertise and experiences to the next
generation of local theatre practitioners.

theatres in Ireland, is available as a venue for conferences and corporate
launches, with the added inhouse option of live streaming your event to
‘virtual’ delegates all over the world.
Our customisable venue will suit any and all requirements. Depending on the size
of your event, you can hire the main auditorium or the smaller vestibule.

From Dublin

When travelling on N9 (from Dublin), N25 ( from Wexford) or N24 ( from
Limerick):
1. Follow signs for Waterford city centre and cross the bridge.
2. At the traffic lights, turn left and proceed down the Quay and Custom House
Parade.
3. The road will bend to the right, away from the river, with The Tower Hotel
facing you.
4. Go straight through the next set of traffic lights and the Theatre Royal is
on your right-hand side.

From Cork

When travelling on N25 from Cork:
1. Follow signs for Waterford city centre, until you get to Parnell Street,
which then becomes The Mall.
2. The Theatre Royal is on the left-hand side of The Mall.

Parking

The Theatre Royal is located in the heart of Waterford city, and there is plenty
of on-street parking and car parks in the area.
The nearest car parks are Bolton Street Car Park, Gasworks Waterside and The
Quay.
Please ensure you leave plenty of time before the performance to locate parking.

In the 220 years since the establishment of the Georgian playhouse which was
subsequently adapted in the late nineteenth century to become the Theatre Royal
we know today, Waterford has been renowned for its local musical and dramatic
traditions. The Theatre Royal, often referred to as “The People’s Theatre”, has
been the traditional venue for this creative activity down through the
generations.

It is the home for long established amateur societies and hosted the Waterford
International Festival of Light Opera since its inception in 1958. As the
premiere venue in the South East of Ireland, the Theatre Royal plays host to the
best national and international touring artists and companies and, with the
support of Waterford City and County Council and The Arts Council, is also
firmly committed to supporting artists in their professional practice.
