5JULY CHAT

The 5th of July Foundation runs an XMPP (Jabber) server for secure chats via
encryption (OTR or OMEMO). It is free for everyone to use and supports
cross-server communication.

There are many XMPP clients for various platforms – it is important that you
choose one that supports encryption via either OMEMO (list of OMEMO clients) or
OTR (list of OTR clients).

Do not transfer files over XMPP if you use OTR, since file attachments are not
encrypted. In general, we recommend OMEMO over OTR.

Register an account here, then log in with your account details in the XMPP
client of your choice. (If you don’t see the form below, you can go to this page
instead.)


DATA SECURITY POLICY

There are many free XMPP (Jabber) servers around, but it’s hard to know who runs
them and whether they log any data. Therefore, here is what we offer:

 * We are the non-profit 5th of July Foundation in Sweden, founded and run by
   Swedish internet pioneers with a credible track record in internet security,
   privacy and liberty. You can check us out here.
 * We run this XMPP instance on our own physical server, which is hosted on
   Swedish ground by Bahnhof, Sweden’s most resilient free-speech network
   operator, which also hosted Wikileaks.
 * We don’t log anything.
