WHAT IS GYNECOMASTIA?

Gynecomastia (often abbreviated to just ‘gyno’) is the development of excess
breast gland tissue in men. Although there are a variety of contributing
factors, it often is a result of hormonal imbalance. This imbalance is generally
due to an excess of estrogen, a lack of testosterone, or a combination of both.

While excess breast gland tissue is usually the main culprit of gynecomastia, it
is quite common for prospective patients to have excess adipose (fatty) tissue
as well. In these instances, a successful gynecomastia surgery will entail
removing the excess gland tissue (with an excision) and the excess fatty tissue
(using liposuction).
