THE STEPSISTERS

BY SUSAN MALLERY

PUBLISHING MAY 25, 2021

BY MIRA BOOKS

ABOUT THE STEPSISTERS

Paperback: 416 Pages

Publisher: MIRA; Original edition (May 25, 2021)

Once upon a time, when her dad married Sage’s mom, Daisy was thrilled to get a
bright and shiny new sister. But Sage was beautiful and popular, everything
Daisy was not, and she made sure Daisy knew it.

Sage didn’t have Daisy’s smarts—she had to go back a grade to enroll in the
fancy rich-kid school. So she used her popularity as a weapon, putting Daisy
down to elevate herself. After the divorce, the stepsisters’ rivalry continued
until the final, improbable straw: Daisy married Sage’s first love, and Sage
fled California.

Eighteen years, two kids and one troubled marriage later, Daisy never expects—or
wants—to see Sage again. But when the little sister they have in common needs
them both, they put aside their differences to care for Cassidy. As long-buried
truths are revealed, no one is more surprised than they when friendship
blossoms.

Their fragile truce is threatened by one careless act that could have
devastating consequences. They could turn their backs on each other again…or
they could learn to forgive once and for all and finally become true sisters of
the heart.

She turned to her housekeeper.

“If she can keep the ginger ale down, give her the children’s Tylenol in twenty
minutes. It will help with the fever.” She smiled at Krissa. “Esmerelda already
put out the baby monitor. Just call if you need something and we’ll come
running.”

Krissa managed a faint smile. “No running in the house. It’s the rules.”

“You’re right. Try to sleep, baby girl. I love you.”

“I love you, too, Mommy.”

Daisy and Esmerelda stepped into the hallway.

“I’ll stay close,” Esmerelda promised. “Twenty minutes and Tylenol.”

“Thank you. I’m going to check on Ben.”

Her son’s room was across the hall. Like Krissa’s room, it was large, with big
windows and high ceilings. The en-suite bathroom was larger than most master
baths—one of the realities of living in a fifteen-thousand-square-foot house.
There weren’t all that many extra rooms, but the rooms they did have were huge.

Ben was still in bed, but sitting up and reading on his tablet, Sheba already
back in her place in the middle of his bed. Simba the cat stretched out against
her favorite dog.

Ben smiled when he saw her. “Hey, Mom.”

“Hey, yourself.”

He was ten, with sandy brown hair and the same hazel eyes as his sister. More
serious and intellectual than Krissa, he’d always been older than his years.

“Your sister is sick. You have powerful germs, young man.”

He grinned and flexed his right arm. “I’m super strong.”

“You are.” She sat on his bed and kissed the top of his head. “How are you
feeling?”

“Better. I had soup for lunch and toast. Esmerelda says I can come downstairs
tonight.” He looked at her. “Mom, I want to do my homework. If I don’t, I’ll
fall behind.”

“I think the odds of you falling behind are incredibly slim.” She glanced at her
watch. “All right. You can get up and sit at your desk for an hour, but only an
hour. Then back to bed.”

He grinned and scrambled to his feet. Sheba watched to see what was happening,
then when Ben only went as far as his desk, she settled back to sleep.

Daisy looked around the room. When Ben had been ready to leave the nursery and
move into his “big boy” bedroom, she’d redone the whole space. The neutral,
masculine colors would carry him through college. The bed and dressers were new,
but the captain’s desk was old—salvaged from an eighteenth-century sailing ship.
It was elegant, with just enough scars to be interesting.

This had been Sage’s room, she thought, trying to remember what it had looked
like back then. The furniture had been lighter, the drapes more frilly. She
remembered a big dollhouse in the corner. A dollhouse that had been relocated
from the playroom to Sage’s personal space—something Daisy had always resented.

But her father had reasoned that the move had been hard on Sage. She was leaving
everything she’d known to come live with them and it was up to Daisy to make her
feel welcome. It hadn’t taken long for Daisy to realize that the only person who
didn’t belong here anymore was her.

Even after the divorce, things hadn’t gotten much better. Because of the joint
custody arrangement with Cassidy, Sage and her mother had moved into a house in
the area and Sage had continued to attend the same private school. Daisy
couldn’t escape Sage’s reign as queen of the mean girls. Being smart didn’t
matter if you were also overweight and anything but pretty.

“That was a long time ago,” Daisy whispered as she walked out of the bedroom.
These days she and Sage were practically strangers. She didn’t need to dwell on
the past. Running into her former stepsister had been a onetime thing. What were
the odds of it happening again anytime soon? A million to one, she promised
herself.

BLOG TOUR & REVIEW – LITTLE PIECES OF ME BY ALISON HAMMER

`

LITTLE PIECES OF ME

BY ALISON HAMMER

PUBLISH DATE APRIL 13, 2021

BY WILLIAM MORROW PAPERBACKS

ABOUT LITTLE PIECES OF ME

When Paige Meyer gets an email from a DNA testing website announcing that her
father is a man she never met, she is convinced there must be a mistake. But as
she digs deeper into her mother’s past and her own feelings of being the odd
child out growing up, Paige begins to question everything she thought she knew.
Could this be why Paige never felt like she fit in her family, and why her
mother always seemed to keep her at an arm’s length? And what does it mean for
Paige’s memories of her father, a man she idolized and whose death she is still
grieving?

Back in 1975, Betsy Kaplan, Paige’s mom, is a straightlaced sophomore at the
University of Kansas. When her sweet but boring boyfriend disappoints her, Betsy
decides she wants more out of life, and is tired of playing it safe. Enter Andy
Abrams, the golden boy on campus with a potentially devastating secret. After
their night together has unexpected consequences, Betsy is determined to bury
the truth and rebuild a stable life for her unborn child, whatever the cost.

When Paige can’t get answers from her mother, she goes looking for the only
other person who was there that night. The more she learns about what happened,
the more she sees her unflappable, distant mother as a real person faced with an
impossible choice. But will it be enough to mend their broken relationship?

BLOG TOUR & REVIEW – THE BOY AND THE LAKE BY ADAM PELZMAN

THE BOY AND THE LAKE

BY ADAM PELZMAN

PUBLISH DATE SEPTEMBER 29, 2020

JACKSON HEIGHTS PRESS

ABOUT THE BOY AND THE LAKE

Set against the backdrop of the Newark riots in 1967, a teenage Benjamin Baum
leaves the city to spend the summer at an idyllic lake in northern New Jersey.
While fishing from his grandparents’ dock, the dead body of a beloved neighbor
floats to the water’s surface—a loss that shakes this Jewish community and
reveals cracks in what appeared to be a perfect middle-class existence. Haunted
by the sight of the woman’s corpse, Ben stubbornly searches for clues to her
death, infuriating friends and family who view his unwelcome investigation as a
threat to the comfortable lives they’ve built. As Ben’s suspicions mount, he’s
forced to confront the terrifying possibility that his close-knit community is
not what it seems to be—that, beneath a façade of prosperity and contentment,
darker forces may be at work.

In The Boy and the Lake, Adam Pelzman has crafted a riveting coming-of-age story
and a mystery rich in historical detail, exploring an insular world where the
desperate quest for the American dream threatens to destroy both a family and a
way of life.

MY THOUGHTS

The Boy in the Lake is the coming of age tale of Benjamin Baum, that centers
around the “accidental” death of his neighbor. When Ben finds his neighbor’s
body floating in the lake by his grandfathers summer home, he doesn’t think his
neighbhor Helen’s death was an accident, and he’s overcome with the idea that he
needs to figure out what happened.

This was a slow burn read for me that concluded with the most shocking and
unexpected ending. Most of the story revolves around Ben finding himself, as he
starts to experience feelings for girls, experiments with alcohol, and deals
with a tumultuous relationship with his mother. Pelzman does a wonderful job
with Benjamins character, and his writing is engrossing and poignant. The story
reminded me slightly of the movie STAND BY ME where the entire tale is being
narrated by Ben in a first person point of view as if he is recollecting a time
of his youth.

The death of Helen seems to always be on the back-burner of Ben’s mind, and is
reflected in the story as a continuous afterthought as Ben muddles through teen
life. The ending is phenomenal and totally unexpected, and the last 1/4 of the
book turns into a page turning thriller that makes you question your own loyalty
to your family and community.
I truly enjoyed this book, and if you like a slow burn coming of age with an
explosive ending, I highly recommend picking this one up.

I just would like to thank Adam Pelzman, Suzy from Suzy Approved Book Tours and
Jackson Heights Press for the gifted copy of this book for my unbiased and
honest opinion for review.

HERE IS A LITTLE ABOUT THE BOOK:

A sweet romantic comedy set in beautiful Napa Valley!

Ivy needs a miracle and a drink—not necessarily in that order. With a struggling
winery, the only hope of keeping her dream alive is snagging a gold medal at the
annual wine competition. She’s determined to win, but she can do it without the
help of Ted Jacobs, aka Mr. Know-it-All.

Ted wants to catch lightning in a bottle and create the world’s greatest wine,
but he’s smart enough to know he can’t do it alone. When he heads to Napa to
keep his grandma from ending up in jail (don’t ask), he meets Ivy. She’s as
complex and intoxicating as his award-winning cabernet, but as stubborn as the
mule next door when she stomps on his offer to collaborate.

Ted knows it’s risky to mix business with pleasure, but if Ivy would only
listen, they might just be the toast of the town.

REVIEW

Here it is, another romcom from my favorite person. I still can’t believe a man
is writing such brilliant romcoms. This guy is just crazy good.

I wonder how many times I can get away with a cut and paste of a previous review
for this guy. You know I wanted to do it last release as well. He is just
consistently DAMN GOOD and there really is not much more to say. Every time Rich
Amooi has a new book come out, I’m chomping at the bit to get at it.

Wine, grandmothers and shenanigans. Add some comedic romance and you’ve got Rich
Amooi’s latest release.
It’s an easy story, Ted wants to buy a vine from Ivy’s vineyard Half Moon
Vineyards. (Ted’s family used to own said vineyard and now Ivy and her family
own it). When Ivy refuses to sell, Ted’s grandmother decides it may just be
easier to “steal a grapevine” instead. When Ted follows grandma to stop her from
stealing from Ivy, well, thats when said shenanigans begin.

Ted and Ivy have no chance when both of their grandmothers team up to try and
get these two together, and of course they both are hilarious.
Ivy and Ted may have their issues, but it’s a no brainer that somehow, someway
these two are going to end up together, no matter how much they resist.

Overall Rich has written another laugh out loud romcom with quirky characters
that are lovable and unforgettable. I learned a little about wine, I laughed a
lot, and I enjoyed the little twists and surprises Amooi gave us along the way.
Another 5 star unputdownable read that you can’t possibly miss!

Thank you so much to Rich Amooi, and Rachel Gilbey from Rachels Random
Resources, for a copy of this book for my honest and unbiased opinion.

HERE IS A LITTLE ABOUT THE BOOK:

Divorced and keeping a heart-breaking secret, Abbie Potter is sleep-walking
through her life as a publicist at a London football club. She seems to spend
more time covering their scandals than celebrating their wins, and has had
enough. Though she’s already prepared for a fresh start, some shocking news
pushes her to take an opportunity even further from home – in Salt Lake City.

The first morning of her new life, Abbie bumps into Kyle Miller. He’s
persistent, and Abbie’s more than intrigued by him. Everything else seems to fit
into place too: she has a fulfilling job, is on a journey of self-rediscovery,
and has revived her love of music thanks to a new-found friendship.

She can’t risk losing what she’s built for herself, but how can she stop it from
slipping through her fingers without shattering the façade she hides behind?

REVIEW

Abbie Potter is unhappy. After a divorce and working a dead end job, she takes
an offer to move from London to Salt Lake City in the US. This was a no-brainer
for her after a final shocking announcement in London is enough to make her want
to get away. Hoping this new job is just what she needs to turn her life around,
she sets new goals and aims to make her life better.
Once arriving in Salt Lake, she makes new friends and excels in her new career.
Then she meets Kyle, the manager at a local soccer club, and she starts to have
feelings for him. Kyle is a great guy and takes the time to show Abbie around
the area, and she is finally considering another go at romance. But Kyle has his
own secrets. How will things turn out?

A sweet debut novel with some very realistic main characters who are extremely
likable. This is a delightful fast paced read that is about self-discovery and
starting over. It’s revolves around a fun new romance and had some charming
intimate scenes, and Abbie is the perfect main character you really want to
route for. Kyle is a very outgoing and quite appealing and the perfect match for
Abbie. There are some unique side stories going on in the background that keeps
the story interesting and the secondary characters really pull everything
together to make this an extremely pleasurable read. What a debut for Rebecca
Banks and I look forward to what she has coming next.

Thank you so much to Rebecca Banks and Rachel Gilbey from Rachels Random
Resources for a copy of this book for my honest and unbiased opinion.

BLOG TOUR & REVIEW – THE LAST SUMMER SISTER BY RACHEL CULLEN

THE LAST SUMMER SISTER

BY RACHEL CULLEN

PUBLISH DATE JANUARY 31, 2021

BY LIME STREET PRESS

ABOUT THE LAST SUMMER SISTER

The Summer sisters don’t have much in common other than shared DNA. But when
their father’s untimely death reveals an earth-shattering secret, everything
they thought they knew about their family — and their future — changes
overnight.

Jen spent her childhood feeling like the ugly duckling, while Lynn longed to be
appreciated for something other than her looks. Consequently, both sisters
competed for their father’s affections but were never satisfied. Jen still
hasn’t forgiven Lynn for fleeing to California to follow her dreams, leaving Jen
to tend to their father and the family insurance business in Chicago’s North
Shore suburbs. Meanwhile, Lynn is living in exile in Los Angeles, forced to
endure the pain of her humiliating divorce in silence because she is too ashamed
to reveal her mistakes to her perfect older sister.

As the youngest member of the trio, Courtney’s life is also turned upside down
due to her father’s death, only for an entirely different reason; Courtney
didn’t even know he existed until after he was gone. Now she has to figure out
what life looks like with two older sisters who can’t stand each other while
attempting to piece together her fractured youth.

Although this tragedy should bring the sisters together, the depth of their
father’s betrayal coupled with their tumultuous past makes reconciliation nearly
impossible. Only time will tell if the bonds of sisterhood are strong enough to
mend past transgressions or if the sisters, and their secrets, will destroy the
Summer family forever.

MY THOUGHTS

The Last Summer Sister by Rachel Cullen was an unputdownable read. This is the
second book I’ve read by Rachel, and the previous book was one of my absolute
favorites of last year – First Came Us – which was just as much as a page turner
as this latest release, and proves what a captivating and talented writer Cullen
has become.

This latest novel is about the Summer sisters. The relationship between sisters
Jennifer and and Lynn has always been a challenge. The relationship is strained
over years of jealousy and Lynn’s decision to leave home to follow her own
dreams leaving Jen home to care for their father and his business. When their
father passes away, the sisters learn via will/lawyer that there is another
Summer sibling – unbeknownst to them – named Courtney, who their father kept
from them.

On top of this new revelation, the sisters each have their own problematic
personal lives that they are already trying to work through, so the surprise
discovery of another sister and the betrayal of their father just adds another
complication to their lives. The attempt to bond as sisters and family becomes
quite the undertaking for the girls, as more and more is revealed. Are the bonds
of family strong enough to survive the deceptions of the past?

Another engrossing read by Rachel Cullen. This wonderful story depicts the
emotions of betrayal, poor communication, marriage difficulties, selfish
decisions, and sister drama just flawlessly. This story is told from multiple
points of view, filling us in on what each character is feeling individually,
and what each of them are holding back. You will develop a love – hate
relationship with every one of them. It is a perfect read to show the importance
of communication in any relationship, and the effect of keeping secrets. There
is enough drama, twists and turns to keep you plowing through the pages to the
very end to see how this family drama turns out. I guarantee you will walk away
emotionally exhausted and completely satisfied. Another brilliant novel by
Rachel Cullen. Highly recommend.

I just would like to thank Rachel Cullen,  Kate Rock from KateRockBookTours and
Lime Street Press for the gifted copy of this book for my unbiased and honest
opinion for review.

BLOG TOUR & REVIEW – LOVE BY DESIGN BY EFFIE KAMMENOU

LOVE BY DESIGN

BY EFFIE KAMMENOU

PUBLISH DATE MARCH 24, 2021

ABOUT LOVE BY DESIGN

Mia Andarakis just landed her dream job at a luxury magazine. And even better,
her boss is the handsome and enigmatic Nicholas Aristedis, a man she has crushed
on from afar. But Nicholas isn’t who she imagined. Irascible and mercurial, his
instant dislike for Mia makes it almost impossible for her to work with him.

Nicholas has faced many losses and heartaches in his thirty-two years.
Determined to avoid heartbreak, he has closed his heart to love. But Mia awakens
feelings in him he had long since denied. And soon he discovers their connection
is deeper than he realized.

Mia and Nicholas embark on an adventure across picturesque locations as they
launch a new publication and uncover the mystery behind her grandfather’s
disappearance. But perhaps the greatest challenge is in learning to set aside
their insecurities and fears. Can the two forget the traumas of their past? And
will they ever learn to trust in the possibility of love? Find out in the second
novel of The Meraki Series.

MY THOUGHTS

Oh man, this book is even better than the first!

Love By Design is book 2 in the Meraki Sister Series and in this installment we
learn more about Mia Andarakas, who finally lands her dream job at a luxury
magazine. When she gets transferred and promoted to a new department where she
becomes the Associate Art director working directly under her secret crush
Nicholas Aristedis, she feels like she is in over her head. When Mia and
Nicholas meet for the first time, things don’t go so well, and it appears the
both of them bring the worst out of each other and they just can not work
together at all. As they both struggle to attempt to make their work
relationship manageable, they find out that they have a much deeper connection
than expected and their true feelings towards each other start to break through.
Nicholas has been hurt before and has given up on love, but will Mia be the one
to change his luck?
While traveling all over the world to work on the magazine, the pair end up in
Greece and while there, they unearth more about the unexplained disappearance of
Mia’s grandfather that happened years ago. Will Mia’s Yiayia be a able to deal
with the truth?

Just when you think Effie Kammenou couldn’t top the relationship with Kally and
Max in book 1 of this series, she unleashes book 2 and gives us Mia and
Nicholas. The love – hate relationship between these two is so sultry and
sizzling, you can’t help but tear through the pages. It’s clear this couple is
perfect for each other. We still have interaction with the beloved Andarakas
family, catch up with Max, Kally, Yiayia and everyone else, as well as meet
Nicholas’s family. Carrying through from Book 1 we continue the sub-story for
the search for Kally and Mia’s missing grandfather and it is a welcome addition
to the overall tale. I have a strong feeling we will be getting a Book 3, as
Kammenou ends this one with the start of Krystina Andarakas story (the youngest
sister) and if she continues that adventure anything like the first 2, we are in
for one hell of a treat. Absolutely loved this read. These books can be read as
stand alones, but I seriously recommend reading the first book before this one,
it just makes book 2 so much better.  Highly recommend this series.

I just would like to thank Effie Kammenou and Kate Rock from KateRockBookTours
for the gifted copy of this book for my unbiased and honest opinion for review.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Effie Kammenou is a believer that it is never too late to chase your dreams,
follow your heart, or change your career. She is proof of that. At one time,
long ago, she’d hoped that by her age, she would have had an Oscar in her hand
after a successful career as an actor. Instead, she worked in the optical field
for 40 years while raising her two daughters.

In 2015, three years after the death of her mother from pancreatic cancer, she
published her debut novel, Evanthia’s Gift, book one in a women’s fiction,
multigenerational love story and family saga, inspired by her mother and her
Greek heritage. Kammenou continues to pick her father’s brain for stories of his
family’s life in Lesvos, Greece, and their journey to America. Her interview
with him was published in the nationally circulated magazine Reminisce.

Evanthia’s Gift: Book One in The Gift Saga was a 2016 finalist in the Readers
Favorite Book Awards.  Waiting for Aegina: Book Two in The Gift Saga was awarded
finalist status in the 2019 International Book Awards and Chasing Petalouthes,
the last book in the trilogy, had also placed in the Readers Favorite Book
Awards for the 2018 contest.

Her latest novel, the first book in a new contemporary romance series, is now
complete. Love is What You Bake of It, follows Kally’s path to independence
despite her sometimes stifling family and her tumultuous road to finding love.
But it wouldn’t be a Kammenou novel without a delve into the past, or the
references to mouth-watering foods.

Effie Kammenou is a first-generation Greek-American who lives on Long Island
with her husband and two daughters. When she’s not writing or posting recipes on
her food blog, aptly named cheffieskitchen, you can find her entertaining family
and friends or traveling for ‘research.’

As an avid cook and baker, a skill she learned from watching her Athenian
mother, she incorporated traditional Greek family recipes throughout the books
for a little extra ‘flavor.’

She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Theater Arts from Hofstra University.

BOOK TOUR – THE MUSEUM MURDER BY KATIE GAYLE

BOOK ON THE BRIGHT SIDE PROMO PRESENTS

THE MUSEUM MURDER

BY AUTHOR KATIE GAYLE

PUBLISHED MARCH 31, 2021

BLOG TOUR

HERE IS A LITTLE ABOUT THE BOOK:

Dastardly deeds, daring deceptions and a dress to die for… Epiphany Bloom is
back on the case!

Epiphany ‘Pip’ Bloom, would-be detective and London’s unluckiest woman, finds
herself in a real costume drama when she unearths a theft at a fashion museum.

The missing dress is a proper piece of Hollywood history, worth a fortune. And
as Pip investigates, she finds the museum staff all had reasons to want the
garment gone. From fancy boutiques to sketchy back alleys, Pip discovers the
fashion world is not all glitz and glamour as she hunts down her prize.

As if she doesn’t have enough on her plate, Pip also has her growing feelings
for her housemate Tim to contend with, a family of cats to feed and her mother
keeps phoning about a shipment of llamas arriving any day now from South
America.

But there’s no time for distractions because Pip’s not the only one after the
dress. And for the most dedicated collectors, a piece like this is worth any
price – even murder…

A laugh-out-loud, light-hearted cozy mystery for fans of M.C. Beaton, T.E.
Kinsey and Joanne Fluke, that will have you reading late into the night.

MY THOUGHTS

The much anticipated second book of the Epiphany Bloom Mystery Series is here!
THE MUSEUM MURDER was just published March 31, 2021 and I was so lucky to read
and review an early copy. Pip is back with her amateur detecting this time
trying to find a missing dress from a fashion museum.

We find Pip with a new job, this time purchasing acquisitions for a vintage
fashion museum. When she realizes the focal point of the museums collection….
get this….the red gown from Pretty Woman that Julia Roberts wore….is actually a
knock off version, she is charged with finding the original – which was stolen.
Now this time Pip actually has a pretty good idea on how to track this gown
down, but when she discovers information that changes her path, we end up with a
dead knowledge source and a museum owner who is hiding secrets. Is Pip able to
solve this mystery? Will she find the stolen dress AND who the brutal murderer
is?

Oh Epiphany Bloom, how do you get yourself into such debacles? Murder, mayhem
and secrets, and only Pip can make solving the mystery kooky, quirky and laugh
out loud fun. This one is a total delight, which I expected, and the secondary
characters, including Pip’s sister Flis are just a hoot. The murder/mystery had
enough twists, turns and red herrings to keep it interesting, and there was just
a touch of romance involved to give you a hint of the possibility of what might
come if there is a book 3 (oh I hope so!). I adored this new addition to the
series and highly recommend it. If you are a cozy reader, please don’t pass this
series up. If you aren’t a cozy reader, this series is perfect for you to dip
your toes into the genre. You won’t regret it.

Thank you to Katie Gayle (writing partners Kate Sidley and Gail Schimmel), Sarah
Hardy from Book On The Bright Side Publicity, Bookouture and Netgalley for the
gifted copy of this book for my unbiased and honest review.

BLOG TOUR & REVIEW – THE BADDEST GIRL ON THE PLANET BY HEATHER FRESE

THE BADDEST GIRL ON THE PLANET

BY HEATHER FRESE

PUBLISH DATE MARCH 2, 2021

BLAIR PUBLISHING

ABOUT THE BADDEST GIRL ON THE PLANET

Evie Austin, native of Hatteras Island, North Carolina, and baddest girl on the
planet, has not lived her life in a straight line. There have been several
detours–career snafus, bad romantic choices, a loved but unplanned child–not to
mention her ill-advised lifelong obsession with boxer Mike Tyson. Evie is not
plucky, but when life’s changes smash over her like the rough surf of the local
shoreline, she muddles through–until that moment of loss and longing when
muddling will no longer suffice. This is the story of what the baddest girl on
the planet must find in herself when a bag of pastries, a new lover, or quick
trip to Vegas won’t fix anything, and when something more than casual
haplessness is required. The Baddest Girl on the Planet is inventive, sharp,
witty, and poignant. Readers will want to jump in and advise this baddest girl
on the planet–or at least just give her a shake or a hug–at every fascinating
turn.

MY THOUGHTS

Evie Austin, the baddest girl on the planet. Ok maybe not on the whole planet,
but Evie sure thinks so. Ever since she was young she’s earned the reputation of
a bad girl, and it carried with her throughout her life.

We learn about Evie’s story through multiple different scenes described
throughout the book, each one from a different time in Evie’s life. The stories
explain Evie’s trials and tribulations that are not only heartbreaking but laugh
out loud funny at the same time. It could just be the sarcastic and snarky tone
that Evie uses when telling her stories, or it could be that Evie’s stories are
so relatable at times that you feel like you are almost laughing at yourself.
Later in life when Evie is just kinda on auto-pilot, she starts to re-evalualte
her life and seeks a therapist helping her find a way to become the person she
wants to be.

You really don’t want this story to end. Heather Frese has taken so many totally
human experiences and described them with humor, grace, snark and very touching
writing and has come up with the most unique coming of age story ever. It’s a
fast read, and just unputdownable. Definitely the perfect beach read. A
beautiful debut and a 5 star read. Highly Recommend.

I just would like to thank Heather Frese, Kate Rock from KateRockBookTours and
Blair Publishing for the gifted copy of this book for my unbiased and honest
opinion for review.

HERE IS A LITTLE ABOUT THE BOOK:

Sometimes you have to write your own future…

The life of former journalist Juliette Seymour has been quiet and unassuming. Up
until now, she’s been concentrating on running the local newspaper and raising
her daughter.

But all that is about to change when Juliette is informed that the Ticklemore
Tattler is to fold and that she’ll be out of a job. She begins to wonder whether
she can buy the newspaper and try to make a go of it herself.

Aware that she needs some advice she contacts Oliver Pascoe, little knowing that
when her old colleague re-enters her life, his help isn’t the only thing she
wants him for!

As she begins to fall in love, however, what she doesn’t realise is that Oliver
has something he’s keeping from her.

A gorgeously uplifting story, perfect for fans of Holly Hepburn, Heidi Swain,
and Isabelle Broom.

REVIEW

Happy Publication Day to The Ticklemore Tattler and famed writer Liz Davies. I’m
so excited to have been gifted an early copy of this amazingly heartwarming
story. Put this one on your radar right now because I know you are going to love
it.

Poor Juliette Seymour. She came home to Ticklemore and was been working at her
beloved local newspaper The Ticklemore Tattler. But now, the son of the original
owner of the newspaper has decided to cut costs and is closing the paper down.
The Tattler is her life, and she refuses to let it go, so she concocts a plan to
try and buy the newspaper. In need of help on how to go about purchasing the
Tattler she reaches out to an old colleague, Oliver Pascoe who is happy to help.
Of course Juliette had no idea she’d be getting more than help from Oliver when
she starts to fall in love with him, and Oliver feels the same, but Juliette has
a secret about the parentage of her daughter Brooke, when the truth comes out,
will that secret tear her and Oliver apart?

Back in the beautiful village of Ticklemore, THE TICKLEMORE TATTLER is book 3 in
the Ticklemore series, but all 3 can be read as a stand alone. This tale is an
extremely lighthearted and uplifting read. The relationship between Juliette and
Oliver has a slow and easy progression and its obvious they are perfect for each
other and he is certainly invested in helping her with the paper. The supporting
characters in the town are still the same outgoing busybodies they’ve always
been and are nothing but a pleasant addition to this tale. The shocking
revelation will not be what you think, and certainly adds an unexpected twist.
This was once again a delightful read from Liz Davies, and I think this is not
going to be the last we hear from Ticklemore. I absolutely adore Liz’s writing
and if you are looking for a quick, fun, indulgent read then pick this one (and
any of Liz’s books) up. Highly recommend.

Thank you so much to Liz Davies, Rachel Gilbey from Rachels Random Resources and
Lilac Tree Books for a copy of this book for my honest and unbiased opinion.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Liz Davies writes feel-good, light-hearted stories with a hefty dose of romance,
a smattering of humour, and a great deal of love.

She’s married to her best friend, has one grown-up daughter, and when she isn’t
scribbling away in the notepad she carries with her everywhere (just in case
inspiration strikes), you’ll find her searching for that perfect pair of shoes.
She loves to cook but isn’t very good at it, and loves to eat – she’s much
better at that! Liz also enjoys walking (preferably on the flat), cycling (also
on the flat), and lots of sitting around in the garden on warm, sunny days.

She currently lives with her family in Wales, but would ideally love to buy a
camper van and travel the world in it.

ORANGE CITY

BY LEE MATTHEW GOLDBERG

PUBLISH DATE MARCH 16, 2021

ABOUT ORANGE CITY

Imagine a secret, hidden City that gives a second chance at life for those
selected to come: felons, deformed outcasts, those on the fringe of the Outside
World. Everyone gets a job, a place to live; but you are bound to the City
forever. You can never leave.

Its citizens are ruled by a monstrous figure called the “Man” who resembles a
giant demented spider from the lifelike robotic limbs attached to his body.
Everyone follows the Man blindly, working hard to make their Promised Land
stronger, too scared to defy him and be discarded to the Empty Zones.

After ten years as an advertising executive, Graham Weatherend receives an order
to test a new client, Pow! Sodas. After one sip of the orange flavor, he becomes
addicted, the sodas causing wild mood swings that finally wake him up to the
prison he calls reality.

A dynamic mash-up of 1984 meets LOST, Orange City is a lurid, dystopian first
book in a series that will continue with the explosive sequel Lemonworld.

MY THOUGHTS

Orange city. Or in my terms Crazy Town.

I’ve never been a fan of reading sci-fi books. After reading a book like this
one,  I often ask myself WHY? WHEN did I make that decision? WHY did I make that
decision? I mean I’m a HUGE fan of Star Wars and Star Trek. I’ve seen a ton of
sci-fi shows and movies and loved them, (I’m talking to you Stranger Things) and
I absolutely adore Hank Green’s Carls book. So what was it that swayed me away
from this genre all this time? After reading Orange City, I still don’t have the
answer, because I devoured this book and I loved it. So I wonder, is sci-fi
going to be one of my new go-tos?

A hidden city that gives you a second chance at life, the chosen ones are
felons, outcasts, and those on the fringe. You get a job, and a house, but you
are bound to the city forever….. you can never leave (You’re singing Hotel
California right now – don’t lie). Then there is the “MAN” who rules the city.
Get this…. A giant demented spider-man with robotic limbs and everyone follows
this ” man” blindly (kinda reminds us of our recent political debacles). Graham
Weatherend lives in this city is an ad exec who is now ordered to test a new
client, POW! Sodas. This drink can control your emotions based on the flavor you
choose. Once Graham chooses the orange flavor he is instantly addicted, and the
more he drinks, the more he starts to see what really is going on around him.
Will he do anything about what he’s now aware of? Good question.

This one has a gradual build at the start, but give it a chance. It’s packed
full of info that you need to assimilate. But once you get into a groove (and it
doesn’t take long at all) things start to fall into place and the book is
unputdownable. I don’t think this is like any other sci-fi/dystopian book I’ve
ever encountered, and its uniqueness is what makes it such a special book. The
characters are complex and written brilliantly and the plot is like nothing I’ve
ever really could have imagined – yet it reminds me so much of the America we
now live in. There are twists and turns in this one that you will never see
coming, and it’s totally unpredictable, yet completely frightening because of
how easily our own society could turn into this type of dystopia with the way
our technology is developing. Please put this one on your radar, it’s a fast
read, and a book you will never forget. What’s even better is that Lee Matthew
Goldberg already has the sequel in the works titled LEMONWORLD.

Orange City is available now, and was just released this month on 3/16/21. I
highly recommend this one for the sci-fi and dystopian lovers, and for those of
you who are like me and tend to shy away from this genre, I gotta tell you, I
highly recommend this read for you guys too. What a ride.

I just would like to thank Lee Matthew Goldberg, Suzanne Leopold of Suzy
Approved Book Tours and Atmosphere Press for the gifted copy of this book for my
unbiased and honest opinion for review.

THE KINDRED SPIRITS SUPPER CLUB BY AMY E. REICHERT

THE KINDRED SPIRITS SUPPER CLUB

BY AMY E. REICHERT

PUBLISH DATE APRIL 20, 2021

BY BERKLEY PUBLISHING

ABOUT THE KINDRED SPIRITS SUPPER CLUB

Jobless and forced home to Wisconsin, journalist Sabrina Monroe can tolerate
reunions with frenemies and kisses from old boyfriends, but not the literal
ghosts that greet her in this heartwarming tale of the power of love and
connection from acclaimed author Amy E. Reichert.

For Sabrina Monroe, moving back home to the Wisconsin Dells–the self-described
Waterpark Capital of the World–means returning to the Monroe family curse: the
women in her family can see spirits who come to them for help with unfinished
business. But Sabrina’s always redirected the needy spirits to her mom, who’s
much better suited for the job. The one exception has always been Molly, a
bubbly rom-com loving ghost, who stuck by Sabrina’s side all through her lonely
childhood.

Her personal life starts looking up when Ray, the new local restaurateur,
invites Sabrina to his supper club, where he flirts with her over his famous
Brandy Old-Fashioneds. He’s charming and handsome, but Sabrina tells herself she
doesn’t have time for romance–she needs to focus on finding a job. Except the
longer she’s in the Dells, the harder it is to resist her feelings for Ray. It
doesn’t hurt that he shows his affection through good old-fashioned home-cooked
suppers. And who can resist a guy obsessed with perfecting a Fried Cheese Curds
recipe?

When the Dells starts to feel like home for the first time, Sabrina begins to
realize that she can make a difference and help others wherever she is.

BOOK BLURBS

> “I am absolutely smitten with The Kindred Spirits Supper Club. Amy E. Reichert

>  “The Kindred Spirits Supper Club is such a sweet, fun read. It’s warm, cozy

> too!”—Beth O’Leary, Sunday Timesbestselling author of The Switch

> “Delicious, heart-warming, and a ghost who wears Chanel? Unsurprisingly, I
> found The Kindred Spirits Supper Club utterly unputdownable!”—Evie Dunmore,
> author of A Rogue of One’s Own

MY THOUGHTS

There’s no place like home to help get yourself back on track. Friends, family,
and even the spirits that only you can see….yep, I said spirits – can be the
perfect fix.

Sabrina is back home in the Wisconsin Dells. She lost her job and is low on
funds, and is now stuck back home in her parents house until she can find new
employment. It wouldn’t be so bad if it wasn’t for the spirits – the family
curse – you see the women in her family can see spirits – and they come to them
to get help with unfinished business. Sabrina usually sends them to her mom, but
since she’s been back home, they seem determined to seek her out. The last thing
Sabrina wants is to go back to her weird and awkward ways that people just don’t
understand when she’s really just conversing with spirits. At least in the big
city, people don’t seem to notice as much.

Then there is Ray, the new guy in town who has bought a local restaurant and
seems to have an eye for Sabrina. Not really having any time for romance, she
tries to avoid Ray, heaven forbid he finds out about the curse, let alone sees
her talking to absolutely NO ONE. But she finds herself more and more attracted
to him, oddly seeming to run into him everywhere. Wanting to focus on finding a
job and hitting the road, Ray’s charming and kind presence in her life makes her
consider the idea of dating again, grasp just how wonderful being back at home
is, and realize how much of a difference she and her bumbling peculiarities can
make in the world from right there in the Dells.

Quirky and laugh out loud fun, The Kindred Spirits Supper Club is the
unconventional romcom you never thought you needed. Starting with a unique
meet-cute and a story line just pushing towards the beloved friends to lovers
outcome, Amy Reichert makes an anxiety ridden girl surrounded by talking spirits
the most adorable heroine in the romance genre. There’s a dreamy guy, meddling
family, an ex boyfriend, tons of awkward drama, and an unusual cast of secondary
characters bringing a touch of mystery to an irresistibly scrumptious read. It’s
the feel good book of the spring and sure to be a huge hit. Definitely my kind
of book. Highly recommend.

I just would like to thank Amy E Reichert, Berkley Publishing and Netgalley for
the gifted copy of this book for my unbiased and honest opinion for review.

BLOG TOUR & REVIEW – LOVE IS WHAT YOU BAKE OF IT BY EFFIE KAMMENOU

LOVE IS WHAT YOU BAKE OF IT

BY EFFIE KAMMENOU

PUBLISH DATE MARCH 24, 2020

ABOUT LOVE IS WHAT YOU BAKE OF IT

The only love Kally Andarakis is baking is in the form of the sweet treats she
whips up in her café, The Coffee Klatch.

Kally never believed herself to be a person worthy of love, but when an
intoxicating man she considered out of her league pursues her, she risks
everything to be with him. Later, when tragedy strikes, truths are revealed that
leave Kally brokenhearted and untrusting.

Eight years later, Kally is a successful pastry chef running the café she’d
always dreamed of owning. With a home of her own, a profession she’s passionate
about, and the support and love of friends and family, Kally is content with the
life she has carved out for herself.

Until the day Max Vardaxis walks into her café…

With arguing parents, meddling relatives, an overly energetic grandmother, a
man-crazy best friend, and the long ago, mysterious disappearance of a
grandfather, this new man in town is just one more complication in Kally’s life,
if not the main one.

Kally must now decide whether to keep her heart safe or to once again take a
‘whisk on love.’

MY THOUGHTS

Two brokenhearted people, secrets, meddling family, romance, and baking, lots of
delicious baking, all mixed into one. It’s the perfect romance book all cooked
up and ready to be devoured.

Kally Andarakis allowed herself to be pursued and fall in love with someone way
out of her league. When tragedy strikes, Kally is not only brokenhearted but
shocked by secrets that are devastating and has left her completely untrusting.
Eight years later Kally has finally moved on with her life. Her love of baking
has allowed her to live her dream of owning her own cafe. Kally is comfortable
and successful, but when new arrival Max walks into her cafe, her content life
is upended with the potential of new romance, but will Kally’s inability to
trust allow her to start a new relationship?
Max has had a rough life himself. A single parent, he has left his NYC life
behind to come home to his roots. He has his own past to protect, but falls
instantly for Kally when he first walks into her cafe. Not looking for love, he
decides to pursue her, but will his past and secrets catch up with him and keep
him and Kally apart?

LOVE IS WHAT YOU BAKE OF IT is a drama filled, fast paced read full of fun,
family and a bit of comedy wrapped around two people with tragic pasts who are
trying to make love work again. Both Kally and Max coming from Greek backgrounds
made this such an interesting read, reminding me what its like to live in a
culture that is oriented around family and tradition. They are easy to love main
characters, and you want nothing more for them to make things work, and end up
together. The romance is steamy, but not over the top, and the meddling Greek
family and friends are just enough to bring a spark of humor throughout the
book. Then there is the baking. Oh the BAKING! Amazing Greek recipes that are
included in the book (and on my blog) top this one off to make it one
spectacular read. I really enjoyed this book, it was fast paced and I read it in
one sitting. I can’t wait for the sequel which comes out later this month.

I just would like to thank Effie Kammenou and Kate Rock from KateRockBookTours
for the gifted copy of this book for my unbiased and honest opinion for review.

EXCERPT

“I’m glad this night is over,” Kally groaned with relief after Max stepped
through her front door. He had taken Athena home after dining with the Andarakis
family, settled her into bed and waited for her to fall asleep before leaving
her in the care of his father and brother.

Max pulled Kally in for a deep kiss. “I was hoping the night was just
beginning,” he said, his voice low and seductive.

Kally gave his arm a playful slap. “You know what I mean.” She groaned. “That
was painful.”

Max brushed the curls from her face. “I didn’t think it was so bad.” He trailed
tiny kisses down her neck. “I was honest with your father,” Max said bringing
his focus to her troubled expression. “I do want this to be the start of
something greater.”

“Me, too.”

“Then stop worrying!” He chuckled. “Trust me, your father won’t chase me off.”
He skimmed the length of her body with his fingertips, settling his hands firmly
on her curvaceous bottom. Kally was tall and lean, but she had a shape men could
admire and Max was certainly doing just that as he slowly backed her up against
the wall.

“No?” she asked flirtatiously. “Not even when he finds out you’re about to have
sex with his daughter?”

“Is that what’s happening here?” he teased, but the rumble coming from his chest
let Kally know exactly where his mind was at.

“Oh, I guess I was mistaken.” She pushed free of him, feigning embarrassment.
“Thank you for stopping by.” She kissed him on the cheek and headed to the door
to let him out. Out from Max’s line of vision, Kally concealed her playfully
impish grin. But before she could cross the room, he took her by surprise,
whisking her up and effortlessly throwing her over his shoulder.

Kally let out a yelp. Gripping Max’s arms for support, he carried her into the
bedroom as though she weighed less than a pound. He dropped her onto the bed,
caging her in as he hung over her, his chestnut eyes darkening with desire.

Kally shuddered—partly from yearning for this man, partly out of nervousness.
She had not been with anyone since Jax, and even before him, there had only been
one other.

“You’re wrong, you know?” Max said, the texture of his voice taking on a tender
quality. “I’m not about to have sex with you.”

Kally looked up at him, bewildered. “No?” The word came through a wisp of
breath.

“No. I’m about to make love to you.”

As an avid cook and baker, a skill she learned from watching her Athenian
mother, she incorporated traditional Greek family recipes throughout the books
for a little extra ‘flavor.’

BLOG TOUR & REVIEW – WHAT’S NOT SAID BY VALERIE TAYLOR

WHAT’S NOT SAID

BY VALERIE TAYLOR

PUBLISH DATE SEPTEMBER 15, 2020

BY SHE WRITES PRESS

ABOUT WHAT’S NOT SAID

Kassie O’Callaghan’s meticulous plans to divorce her emotionally abusive
husband, Mike, and move in with Chris, a younger man she met five years ago on a
solo vacation in Venice, are disrupted when she finds out Mike has chronic
kidney disease—something he’s concealed from her for years. Once again, she
postpones her path to freedom—at least, until she pokes around his pajama drawer
and discovers his illness is the least of his deceits.

But Kassie is no angel, either. As she struggles to justify her own
indiscretions, the secret lives she and Mike have led collide head-on, revealing
a tangled web of sex, lies, and DNA. Still, mindful of her vows, Kassie commits
to helping her husband find an organ donor. In the process, she uncovers a
life-changing secret. Problem is, if she reveals it, her own immorality will be
exposed, which means she has an impossible decision to make: Whose life will she
save—her husband’s or her own?

The sequel, What’s Not True, continues Kassie’s quest, can stand on its own, and
will be published in August 2021.

MY THOUGHTS

Looking for that book that you can’t put down? Something that consumes you
completely and you can’t stop reading until you are finished? That “one sitting”
read? Trying to find that book that gets you out of your reading rut? I have it
right here!

Some of the best books I’ve ever read have been introduced to me on book tours.
A lot of them are ones that aren’t the “big name” authors that most people pass
by. WHAT’S NOT SAID happens to be one of those books, and after reading it I can
honestly say it is one of my most favorite reads of this year, and I am
anxiously awaiting the sequel that comes out later this fall.

WHAT’S NOT SAID is about Kassie O’Callaghan and he longstanding plans to divorce
her husband. Mike is emotionally abusive, secretive and not interested in
intimacy with her. But on the weekend she plans to tell him she’s filed for
divorce he emergently ends up in the hospital with chronic kidney disease –
something he’s been hiding from her for years. While Mike is being admitted to
the hospital, Kassie heads home to gather an overnight bag for him and happens
upon more locked away secrets in his underwear drawer that make his kidney
disease secret seem insignificant.
But Kassie has been hiding secrets of her own, and she’s no angel. While vowing
to help Mike with his disease they both face off over each of their hidden
secrets, lies, and deceit. The more Kassie finds out from Mike, the more she
struggles with her own decisions, and realizes in helping Mike she may threaten
herself and her own future.

A brilliant debut. Completely pulls you in immediately and is unputdownable. I
read this novel in one sitting and am anxiously awaiting the sequel this fall.
Taylor’s writing is gripping and entertaining with realistic characters and true
to life scenerios. There is drama galore with a bit of humor and snark. You
can’t help but route for Kassie, she’s the imperfect protagonist that just wants
to be happy, and Mike is the perfect man you love to hate. This book is
everything you are looking for in a captivating read. I absolutely loved it.
Hard to believe this is Taylors first book. Highly recommend.

I just would like to thank Valerie Taylor, Suzanne Leopold of Suzy Approved Book
Tours and She Writes Press for the gifted copy of this book for my unbiased and
honest opinion for review.

BOOK TOUR & REVIEW WITH EXCERPT – THE JIGSAW MAN BY NADINE MATHESON

ABOUT THE JIGSAW MAN

• Hardback: 496 pages
• Publisher: Hanover Square Press (March 16, 2021)
• ISBN-13: 978-1335146564

In THE JIGSAW MAN, Detective Inspector Anjelica Henley has a lot to deal with on
her first day back her from leave from the Serial Crimes Unit of Scotland Yard.
After nearly becoming a victim of the vicious serial killer, The Jigsaw Man,
just before he was put behind bars, she also has to contend with the subtle digs
and microaggressions that come with being the unit’s only black female
detective. Add a new trainee and a rocky marriage to the mix, and DI Henley
nearly has a full plate. Until the first call comes in..

Along the Thames, a fan of the Jigsaw Man and copycat killer has scattered two
dismembered bodies along the shores like a jigsaw puzzle. When DI Henley sees
one of the victims, a young black woman, is already being written off by her
colleagues, she makes it her mission to solve the case, driving her to seek help
from the original Jigsaw Man himself, Peter Oliver. Oliver, however, is
determined to get to his copycat before Henley can, and sets into motion a
series of events that puts Henley and her family in the crosshairs of two
monstrous serial killers

MY THOUGHTS

A puzzling procedural that is quite disarming.

THE JIGSAW MAN the first in the Inspector Anjelica Henley Series has definitely
earned its place as one of the most anticipated books of 2021.

Thrown into a crime scene with dismembered body parts from 2 different victims
on her first day back to active duty, Detective Anjelica Henley has a lot on her
plate. It seems this crime resembles the same MO as Peter Olivier, the notorious
Jigsaw Killer who arranged is victims limbs in puzzle-piece shapes. When
Olivier, who has spent the past 2 years in jail finds out that someone is using
his signature, he decides to take matters into his own hands. As the bodies
continue to appear, Detective Henley is faced with an odd twist to this new
case, can she capture this copycat before Olivier can find a way to get to him
first?

This book was extremely well written when it comes to police procedurals,
proving that Matheson’s experience as a criminal attorney really paid off. It
starts right off with the finding of body parts, and then once you get a little
back-story the narrative turns to the gruesome and becomes quite a page turning
read. If you like the dark and disturbing (fans of Lars Kepler and Chris Carter
take note) you will really love this one. There are tons of twists that will
keep you guessing and Matheson’s writing will truly keep you engrossed and
turning the pages. The main character Anjelica Henley is well written and her
backstory alone keeps you interested in her quest to solve this one. I highly
anticipate the continuation of her saga in the sequels to this series. A great
debut for Nadine Matheson.

Thank you to Nadie Matheson, Hanover Square Press and Netgalley for my gifted
copy of this book for my honest and unbiased review.

EXCERPT

Chapter Two

‘How long have we got until the tide comes in?’ Henley was facing the river
watching the small waves crashing against the derelict pier. She checked her
watch. Nearly two hours had passed since the first 999 call.

‘I checked online, and high tide is at 9.55 a.m.’ Ramouter replied as he stepped
around a half-submerged car tire, his eyes glazed with anxiety. ‘Low tide was at
3.15. Sunrise was at 6.32. A three-hour window for someone to dump whoever this
is and hope that someone would find it before the tide comes in?’

‘Maybe,’ Henley acknowledged. ‘But for all we know it could have been dumped
after sunrise or was dumped earlier upstream before being washed up here.’ She
inspected the glass façade of the Borthwick Wharf, empty commercial spaces and
work units that opened to the terrace and lacked security cameras. Henley
doubted that the local council would have extended their own CCTV cameras to
this part of the street. They had been neglecting this part of Deptford for as
long as she could remember.

‘Has it been touched?’ Henley asked Anthony who had appeared at her side.

‘As far as I’m aware, it’s in situ. It wasn’t touched by the woman who found it.
Matei, your builder, said that he hadn’t touched the legs but unhelpfully, it’s
covered in his vomit. I had a quick look at the arms that were found downstream
before I came here. From the looks of things, the treasure hunters may have
prodded around a bit.’

‘There’s always one.’

The wind dropped and the air softly crackled with the electricity generated from
the substation nearby.

‘We’re isolating the recovery of evidence to the direct path from the alleyway
to the torso,’ said Anthony. ‘I doubt very much that whoever it was sat here and
had a coffee afterwards.’

‘They may not have had a coffee, but if we go with Ramouter’s theory and the
body parts have been dumped then whoever it was certainly knows the river,’
Henley replied. ‘We’ll let you get on. Ramouter and I are going to take a walk.’

‘Where are we going?’ asked Ramouter.

‘To meet Eastwood.’

‘And you want to walk it?’

Henley did her best to push aside her frustration when Ramouter pulled out his
phone. ‘Google maps says that Greenwich pier is almost a mile away,’ he said.

‘Your body-part dumper isn’t the only one who knows the river,’ Anthony shouted
out as Henley began to walk determinedly along the riverbank.

The gold scepters on the twin domed roofs of the Old Royal Naval College pierced
the cloudless sky. The bare masts of the restored Cutty Sark completed the
historical panoramic view that Greenwich was known for. It was a resplendent,
whitewashed version of history that contrasted with the sewage that washed
ashore. Henley stopped walking when she realized that she could no longer hear
the sounds of Ramouter’s leather soles slipping on wet pebbles.

‘Where are you from?’ Henley asked, waiting for Ramouter to take off his jacket
and loosen his tie. She moved closer towards the moss-covered river wall as the
tide began to encroach.

‘Born in West Bromwich. Moved to Bradford when I was twelve.’ Ramouter tried to
brush off the bits of mud that had stuck to his trousers, but they only smeared
more. ‘Lots of moors, no rivers. Surely it would have been quicker in the car.’

‘This is quicker. Unless you fancy sitting in traffic for the next half hour
while they raise the Creek Road Bridge.’

‘You know this area well?’

Henley ignored the question. She didn’t see the point in telling him that she
could have walked this path with her eyes closed. That this small part of
South-East London was ingrained in her. ‘Whoever dumped the torso would have
taken this route. It doesn’t make any sense to come down here, go back up to the
street level and then drive up to Watergate Street. Out of sight, below street
level. Lighting would have been minimal.’

‘Body parts are heavy though,’ Ramouter tried to quicken his step to catch up
with Henley. ‘The human head weighs at least eight pounds.’

‘I know.’ Henley pulled out her mobile phone, which had started to ring. She saw
who it was and ignored the call.

‘Head, torso, arms, legs. That’s at least six individual body parts.’

‘I know that also. So, tell me, what point are you making?’ Henley waited for
Ramouter to reach her before maneuvering him towards the river wall as though
she was chaperoning a child.

‘I’m just saying that that’s a lot of dead weight to be carrying around at three
in morning.’ Ramouter paused and placed his hand against the wall, trying to
catch his breath.

Henley didn’t openly express her agreement. She fished out a black hair band
from her jacket pocket and pulled her thick black curls into a ponytail. She had
forgotten how much energy it took to walk across the gradient slope of the
riverbank. Worse, she felt mentally unprepared for the job ahead, with a trainee
struggling behind her who had no idea this was her first time as senior
investigator in almost a year.

‘It’s a bit grim, isn’t it?’ DC Roxanne Eastwood shouted out as Henley finally
reached the first crime scene. ‘Morning, Ramouter. Not a bad gig for your first
day.’

Henley had always thought that Eastwood actually looked and carried herself like
a detective. Now, Eastwood was poised on the riverbank, the sleeves of her
jacket rolled up with her notebook in her hand. She had come prepared for the
river and was wearing a pair of jeans and trainers that had seen better days.

‘Morning, Eastie. How does it feel to be out of the office?’ Henley asked, her
eyes drifting to a crime scene investigator who was putting an arm into a black
bag.

‘I should be asking you that,’ said Eastwood, with a look of concern.

Henley silently appreciated the empathy and placed her hand on Eastwood’s
shoulder.

‘But since you asked, it’s bloody terrible. I think I’ve got sunburn.’ Eastwood
rubbed a hand over her reddening forehead. ‘Forensics are going to be wrapping
up in a bit. Not that there’s much for them to do. Bag it and tag it.’

‘Where’s Mr Thomas?’

‘Ah, our illustrious treasure hunter. Last time I saw him he was heading towards
the shops. Said that he needed to get some water for his dog.’ Eastwood shook
her head, obviously not believing a word of it. ‘I’ve got an officer keeping an
eye on him. I wouldn’t be surprised if he’d already uploaded pictures of his
find onto Instagram.’

‘I want him taken back to the station. Ramouter can take another statement from
him.’ Henley said it purposely so that Ramouter would sense she was in control.
‘If he’s like most mudlarkers, he would have been out here first thing this
morning waiting for the tide to go out. Where exactly were the arms found?’

‘Just over there.’ Eastwood pulled down her sunglasses and pointed towards the
foamed waves created by a passing river bus. The tide had already come in where
X had once marked the spot. A sense of urgency filled the air as the river
regained its territory.

‘Did he say anything else?’

‘Only that he found the second arm about three feet away from the first.’

‘It’s a sick trail of breadcrumbs,’ said Henley.

‘You’re telling me and before you ask about CCTV, there’re loads of cameras—’

‘But none aimed at this part of the river.’

‘Exactly.’

Henley’s mobile phone began to ring. She pulled it out and answered. After a
quick chat, she ended the call.

‘That was Dr Linh Choi. You wouldn’t have met her yet but she’s our go-to
forensic pathologist. She’s just arrived,’ Henley explained to Ramouter. She
wiped away the sweat from the back of her neck.

‘So, we’ve got two arms, both legs and a torso,’ said Ramouter. ‘Where’s the
head?’

Good question. Henley thought of the places between the two locations. A primary
school, two nurseries and an adventure playground among the flats and houses.
The last thing she needed was to find a head in the kids’ sandpit.

‘Can I have a quick look?’ Henley asked the assistant from Anthony’s CSI team,
who had just bagged up the arm and was scribbling in her notebook.

‘Sure.’ The assistant unzipped the bag and pushed the plastic apart.

‘Fuck,’ Henley said under her breath. Her heartbeat quickened, her stomach
flipped.

‘Oh,’ said Ramouter as he peered over Henley’s shoulder. One arm was covered
with gravel. Slivers of seaweed criss-crossed old scars. The second arm. Slender
wrist, the ring finger slightly longer than the index, broken fingernails. Black
skin. Henley could hear Pellacia’s words from earlier ringing in her ears.

‘Too early to say if it belongs to the same victim or if it’s more than just
one.’

‘Call DSI Pellacia,’ Henley told Ramouter. ‘Tell him that we’ve got two possible
murder victims.’

ABOUT DAYTIME DRAMA

Soap opera star by day, harried, single mom by night, Calliope Hart’s life is a
delicate balancing act. When the network cancels her show, Callie’s world
crumbles and she must decide whether it’s more important to fight to save the
show or take a risk and start over from scratch.

By day, for 25 years, soap opera fans have known actress Calliope Hart as Napa
Valley’s resident diva, Jessica Sinclair. By night, Callie is a flustered
breadwinner, scrambling to provide for her 12-year-old son and her mother. So
when the network announces that her show will be canceled, Callie is beyond
shocked—she doesn’t know who she is anymore.

At first, driven by financial concerns for her family that include blackmail
payments to her son’s biological father, she rallies fans to save the show. But
is that what she really wants? When she learns that her mother has been driving
her son to auditions she’s strictly forbidden—and worse, that he’s been offered
opportunities —Callie sees her own child’s youth and drive in competition with
her age and experience. Set in modern-day Hollywood, Daytime Drama is a story
about having the guts to reach for the sky. Callie must decide whether to play
it safe or summon the courage her son displays to risk her lucky meal ticket and
reinvent her career— and, for the first time, test her mettle as an actress and
a mom.

MY THOUGHTS

A daytime drama turns into a lifetime drama in Sarahlyn Bruck’s second novel and
it’s an eye-opener.

Ok, in a nutshell, single mother and soap opera star Calliopie Hart’s life takes
a turn when the TV network cancels her show. She’s already doing acrobatics to
balance her life with her son, mother, and leech ex husband. Now she has to
figure out what to do next, does she try to fight for the show or does she make
the attempt to start over, which isn’t easy for an average every day soap
actress. With all this Callie finds out her mother is taking her son to
auditions – which she has has forbidden him to do – and that he’s even been
offered positions. On top of this her ex is pressuring her to see the son he’s
ignored for years and she’s not sure what to do.
Callie is faced with multiple dilemmas, does she allow her son to work in
television? Does she let her ex into her son’s life? Does she fight for the soap
to be reinstated or does she attempt to start over?

Daytime Drama is a well written novel about making choices. Told in alternating
viewpoints, Bruck sucks you into this story immediately and welcomes you behind
the scenes of Hollywood. Callie’s character really shows us that being a star
isn’t easy at all and that actors are really people with real problems. This was
an easy and fast read as well as a complete eye opener to what we don’t see
behind all the TV glamour. I really enjoyed this one. Perfect for a one day
outing or a beach read.

I just would like to thank Sarahlyn Bruck, Suzanne Leopold of Suzy Approved Book
Tours and TouchPoint Press for the gifted copy of this book for my unbiased and
honest opinion for review.

HERE IS A LITTLE ABOUT THE BOOK:

Mia Abbott’s move to Manchester was supposed to give her time and space from all
the disastrous romantic choices she’s made in her past. But then the hot guy who
lives opposite – the one who works out every day at exactly 10 a.m., not that
Mia has noticed thank-you-very-much – starts leaving notes in his window…for
her.

Bar owner Luke Doyle has his own issues to deal with but as he shows Mia the
sites of her new city he also shows her what real romance looks like for the
first time. And when he cooks up a signature cocktail in her honour, she
realises that the man behind the bar is even more enticing than any of his
creations. And once she’s had a taste she knows it will never be enough!

REVIEW

Mr Right Across the Street, I mean literally RIGHT ACROSS THE STREET. Does
finding the perfect guy get any better than having him so close?

Mia needs to start over and get away from her ex, so she moves to Manchester to
focus on herself and her career. Unfortunately she is routinely distracted by
the attractive man across the street who routinely works out at 10 am.
Luke (the guy across the street) owns and works in the bar downstairs from his
home. When Mia shows up to try to make some friends in her new neighborhood, she
and Luke eventually become friends.
Both of them are attracted to each other but Mia wrestles with her feelings
after her nasty breakup and doesn’t believe Luke is genuine and could like a
girl like her. We end up with a “will they or won’t they” type situation that
you only have to read to find out what happens.

This one is adorable. It’s a sweet and cute romcom with some quirky characters.
The alternating points of view really give you some insight on how Mia and Luke
felt and was interesting to see Mia work through her issues and figure out what
and who she wanted. It was fun to watch their relationship develop.  Overall it
was a quick read that was a ton of fun and had a delicious ending.

Thank you so much to Kathryn Freeman, Rachel Gilbey from Rachels Random
Resources, One More Chapter, and Netgalley for my gifted copy of this book for
my honest and unbiased opinion.

BOOK TOUR & REVIEW WITH EXCERPT – HER DARK LIES BY J.T. ELLISON

ABOUT HER DARK LIES

• Paperback: 416 pages
• Publisher: MIRA(March 9, 2021)
• ISBN-13: 9780778388302

Fast-paced and brilliantly unpredictable, J.T. Ellison’s breathtaking new novel
invites you to a wedding none will forget—and some won’t survive.
Jutting from sparkling turquoise waters off the Italian coast, Isle Isola is an
idyllic setting for a wedding. In the majestic cliff-top villa owned by the
wealthy Compton family, up-and-coming artist Claire Hunter will marry handsome,
charming Jack Compton, surrounded by close family, intimate friends…and a host
of dark secrets.
From the moment Claire sets foot on the island, something seems amiss. Skeletal
remains have just been found. There are other, newer disturbances, too. Menacing
texts. A ruined wedding dress. And one troubling shadow hanging over Claire’s
otherwise blissful relationship—the strange mystery surrounding Jack’s first
wife.
Then a raging storm descends, the power goes out—and the real terror begins…

MY THOUGHTS

Wow what a page turner.

J.T. Ellison is known for page turning thrillers but this one was just
captivating. From page one you are immediately sucked into the book and
completely engrossed by Claire’s story. I knew immediately there was no way I
was going to be putting it down until I was finished.

When artist Claire heads to Isle Isola to wed her wealthy fiancee Jack in a
small family ceremony, things immediately feel off kilter when odd things start
to happen. With skeletal remains being found, odd texts being received and her
wedding dress intentionally being defaced, Claire’s exquisite already off to a
rough start. As a huge storm descends on the island and the power goes out, both
Claire and Jack both have to face some dark secrets from their past to make it
through this wedding alive.

Ellison’s newest is quite the gripping read. The story line was easy to follow
and kept me guessing while the main characters were likable but just shady
enough to make me question their reliability. There was non-stop action around
every corner, and I truly questioned everyone as the culprit as I continued to
read. This one has tons of twists and turns and the ending is a show-stopper. A
fabulous thriller full of suspense. This is one I definitely recommend. Another
powerhouse novel by J.T. Ellison.

Thank you to J.T. Ellison,  MIRA, and Netgalley for my gifted copy of this book
for my honest and unbiased review.

Beginnings and Endings

She is going to die tonight.

The white dress, long and filmy, hampers her effort to run. The hem catches on a
branch; a large rend in the fabric slashes open, exposing her leg. A deep cut
blooms red along her thigh, and the blood runs down her calf. Her hair has come
loose from its braid, flies unbound behind her like gossamer wings.

In her panic, she barely notices the pain.

The path ahead is marked by towering cypress and laurel, verdant and lush. A
gray stone waist-high wall is all that stands between her and the cliffside. It
is cool inside this miniature forest; the sky is blotted out by the
purple-throated wisteria that drapes across and between the trees. Someone,
years ago, built an archway along the arbor. The arch’s skeleton has long since
rotted away and the flowers droop into the path, clinging trails and vines that
brush against her head and shoulders. It should be beautiful; instead it feels
oppressive, as if the vines might animate, twist and curl around her neck and
strangle her to death.

She tries not to look down to the frothing water roiling against the rocks at
the cliff’s base. She thinks the ruins are to her right. From what she
remembers, they are between the church and the artists’ colony, the four
cottages cowering on the hillside, empty and waiting.

A horn shrieks, and she realizes the ferry is pulling away. A crack of
lightning, and she sees the silhouette of the captain in the pilothouse, looking
out to the turbulent seas ahead. A gamble that he makes it before the storm is
upon them.

Don’t panic. Don’t panic.

Where is the church?

There it is, a flash of white through the trees. The stuccoed walls loom, the
bell tower hidden behind the overgrown foliage. Now the path is moving upward,
the grade increasing. She feels it in her calves and hopes again she is going
the right way. The Villa is on the hill, on the northwest promontory of the
island. If she can reach its doors, she will be safe.

It is too quiet. There are no birds, no creatures, no buzzing or cries, just her
ragged, heavy breath and the scree shuffling underfoot as she climbs. The
furious roar of the water smashing its frustration against the rocks rises from
her left, echoing against the cliffside.

The dogs begin to howl.

Climb. Climb. Keep going.

She must get to the Villa. There she can call for help. Lock herself inside.
Maybe find a weapon.

A branch snaps and she halts, breathless.

Someone is coming.

She startles like a deer, now heedless of the noise she’s making. Fighting back
a whimper of fear, she breaks free of the cloistered path to see an old decrepit
staircase cut into the stone. Careful, she must be cautious, there are gaps
where some steps are missing, and the rest are mossy with disuse, but hurry,
hurry. Get away.

She winds up the steps, clinging to the rock face, until she bursts free into a
sea of scrubby pines. Two sculptures, Janus twins, flank a slate-dark path into
a labyrinth of rhododendron and azalea.

This isn’t right. Where is she?

A hard breeze disrupts the trees around her, and a rumble of thunder like a
thousand drums rolls across her body. Lightning flashes and she sees the Villa
in the distance. So far away. On the other side of the labyrinth. The other side
of the hill.

She’s gone the wrong way.

A droplet of water hits her arm, then her forehead. Dread bubbles through her.

She is too late. The storm is upon her.

The howls of the dogs draw closer. The wind whistles hard and sharp, buffeting
her against the stone wall. She can’t move, deep fear cementing her feet. Rain
makes the gauzy dress cling to the curves of her body, and the blood on her
thigh washes to the ground. None of it matters. She cannot escape.

When he comes, at last, sauntering through the storm, the barking beasts leaping
and growling beside him, she is crying, clinging to the wall, the lightning
illuminating the ruins; the ancient stones and stark, headless statues the only
witness to her death.

She goes over the wall with a thunder-drowned scream, the jagged rocks below her
final companions.

MONDAY

Insecurity is the worst sense that lovers feel; sometimes the most humdrum
desireless marriage seems better. Insecurity twists meanings and poisons trust.

The Party

Nashville, Tennessee

The last few days before a wedding are the most stressful of a bride’s life.

I repeat this mantra to justify accepting a fourth glass of champagne from the
slim, silent, white-gloved server. The champagne is delightful, cool and fizzy
against my throat.

I am well past tipsy, and thankfully, it seems the evening is winding down. The
quartet is looking decidedly tired, and the servers have been circling with the
macarons for over half an hour. All I want to do at this point is sneak off to a
corner to discreetly rub the bottoms of my feet; I’m wearing my five-hour heels
but I’m pushing hour six and feeling it. I am smiled, chatted, and air-kissed
out.

I take a second sip, then cast a glance across the crowded ballroom to my
bridegroom. Jack doesn’t seem stressed at all. Quite the opposite; he is as
relaxed and calm as I’ve seen him in weeks. He is in his element, surrounded by
benefactors and businessmen, people of standing and stature. His dark blond hair
is mussed, his eyes a bit glassy from all the toasting. The quintessential
quarterback—impossibly handsome, easy smile, thick hair, oozing sex appeal. The
kind of guy who doesn’t flame out after college, but goes the whole way, becomes
a brand, gets endorsement deals, marries a supermodel and has two perfect kids
and an architecturally interesting home.

Though Jack is not a quarterback, and I am hardly a supermodel. I am tall, and I
do have an awful lot of blond hair, but that’s where the resemblance ends. I’m
an artist, a painter. My talent is large canvas abstracts, modern oils. And even
that has been enhanced by Jack’s influence.

These assets don’t seem enough, and yet, William Jackson Compton has chosen to
spend his life with me.

Yes, that Jackson Compton, eldest son of the illustrious computer magnate
William Brice Compton III, and his brilliant wife, Ana Catalano Compton.

This party is our last obligation before hopping a flight to Italy. To have our
wedding on Isle Isola, in the Comptons’ private centuries-old villa, packed with
modern art and old secrets. It’s belonged to the family for generations.

Personally, I would have been fine with the courthouse, but there will be
nothing but the best for Jack.

At my request, the ceremony itself will be for our closest family and friends
only, but because so many people wanted to celebrate with us, the powers that
be—Ana, and our wedding planner, Henna Shaikh—decided a precursor event would be
fitting. A reception before the wedding, complete with a tanker truck of
champagne, heavy hors d’oeuvres, five hundred well-heeled strangers, enough
staff to circulate food and wine for the masses, one gregarious groom, and one
extremely shy bride.

And twinkle lights. One must never forget the twinkle lights.

This prewedding extravaganza is why I’m now standing in an outrageously
expensive Elie Saab column of the palest ivory satin and sky-high Jimmy Choo
heels in the ballroom of Cheekwood mansion quaffing champagne as if my life
depends on it. One wall of the ballroom has been lit up all evening with
tasteful black-and-white photographs from our courtship, interspersed with
photos of Jack on-site in foreign countries, holding babies during their
inoculations and drilling water wells, part of his duties with the Compton
Foundation, a hugely successful and popular philanthropic endeavor. There are
even a few shots of me in my studio and my paintings. They look so fascinating
in monochrome, it has me itching to sneak away to my studio tonight, though this
isn’t going to happen. A—I don’t often like the results when I paint drunk. B—We
leave tomorrow for Isola, ergo, there is no more painting time for me until
after the wedding.

Jack senses me watching him. His smile grows wider, into a grin that is pure,
sheer delight. You are mine, and I am yours, and we are so very lucky, it says.
He tips his glass my direction, and I tip mine in return, then take a sip,
promptly spilling a teensy bit onto the front of my dress. Shit. I have
definitely been overserved.

I set the glass down on the nearest table and discreetly dab at my collarbones
with my cocktail napkin, feeling the scratchy embossing of our conjoined
initials in golden scroll against my bare skin.

Jack must have seen my faux pas because he crosses the room like a torpedo. He’s
not upset, he’s highly amused, judging by the rumbles of laughter coming from
his broad chest. His arms encircle my waist and he sweeps me up into a hug that
takes my feet off the ground. He whirls me in a circle.

“Darling, darling, my beautiful, lovely, wet darling.”

“Oh good, you’re tipsy, too. Set me down, you silly man.”

But there is a tinkling noise, metal chiming against the champagne flutes, which
is how I’ve gotten so merry to start with. So. Many. Toasts.

Jack kisses me, still twirling. The crowd cheers uproariously, and my head spins
in all the right ways. Nothing matters but this—this man, me in his arms, our
lips touching. Forever. He’s mine forever.

“Want to get out of here?” he whispers, stopping finally. I slide down his body
like a ballerina until my toes touch the hardwood.

“God, yes. Now?”

“Now.”

“Excellent. Can we just sneak out? Irish goodbye in three, two, one…”

“Darling, we can do whatever we want. It’s our party. But let’s say goodbye,
just to be polite.” He turns to the crowd and puts up a hand, and silence
descends on the room.

His power over people is magnetic. If he ever wanted to take over his father’s
company, the world would bend over backward to pave his way. Lucky for me, Jack
is content with the Foundation.

“Thank you, all, for a lovely evening. So glad you’ve been able to celebrate
with us. We’ll see you on the other side.”

Quick as a magician, Jack has us out of the room and on the slate path to the
black Suburban waiting outside before the applause and calls of best wishes and
congratulations fully dies down. His personal security guards, Gideon and
Malcolm, materialize like well-armed ghosts and fall in silently behind us. I
call them the Crows because they are practically identical, with their buzz cuts
and beefy arms, dressed in unrelenting black from head to toe, and hover,
continuously, over their prize. How his people know when and where to be ready
for him is still anyone’s guess. I suppose I’ll learn. Though Jack moved into my
house in 12th South several months ago, he still travels constantly, and I’ve
rarely accompanied him on business.

So far, I’ve managed to escape the Crows’ scrutiny. It is only at my insistence
that they don’t flank Jack and me twenty-four/seven. Once we’re married, that
will change. The Crows will be at my side, too, and I don’t have a choice in the
matter. There have already been too many security briefings for my taste.

I collapse into the back of the Suburban and kick off my heels, sighing in
relief.

Jack leans over and nuzzles my neck. “You smell like Möet & Chandon.”

“I suppose there are worse things. The party was fun. I’m sorry your mom had to
miss it.”

“No, you’re not. But that’s fine. She and Henna are going wild at the Villa,
running the servants ragged getting everything prepared. All we have to do is
show up and smile.”

“I love your mom. She’s just a bit…intimidating.”

“She will love hearing that. Speaking of, did you speak to yours tonight?”

“For a moment. She called when they arrived in Rome. Said Brian and Harper are
making noises about never coming home. She said they’ll meet us on Isola
Thursday. At least we’ll have a day to decompress before my family descends.”

An inadvertent sigh slips from my lips. I love my family, but we aren’t terribly
close. Everyone is pursuing their own agendas, their own lives. My sister has
been acting especially weird lately, and that’s saying something.

Truth be told… I think there’s a little jealousy going on. Things have been more
strained than usual since Jack and I announced our engagement.

“Good. The majority of the guests should be arriving Thursday morning as well.
The rehearsal is Friday, and Saturday, you, my darling, will officially be Mrs.
Compton.”

“I like the sound of that.”

He kisses me lightly. “I do, too.”

Jack’s hand is wandering up my thigh, but I bat it away. “If you’re looking for
postprandial treats, you’ll have to wait until later, cowboy.”

“They don’t care,” he murmurs into my ear, but I shake my head.

“I care. Wait until we’re alone, and then you can have your dessert. I noticed
you passed on the macarons.”

He flops back into the seat. “They were stale. Mom will be livid.”

“They were? I thought they were yummy.”

“You’ll learn. Once you’ve had one fresh out of the ovens on the Champs-Élysées,
you’ll see what I mean.”

“You, my darling, are a snob.”

“And you love me.”

He kisses me sweetly, and the Suburban pulls to the curb in front of our house.
We spill out, both loose and uncoordinated, under the watchful eyes of the
Crows. Gideon stays with us while Malcolm sweeps the house. He gives us the all
clear. Once we’re inside, they disappear into whatever crevice they live in
overnight.

I carry my heels in one hand, grateful for the lack of stress on my arches. Jack
tosses his jacket over the bar stool at the eat-in counter, tugs at his tie and
unbuttons his collar, rolls up his sleeves, the motions so quick, so practiced
and fluid, it’s hypnotizing. He sees me watching and makes it into a tease,
stepping closer with each turn of the fabric.

“You should try that with the buttons,” I say, running my tongue over my lips.

He grins, lazy and confident. “Naw. I’ll let you have the honor.”

A step closer, another. My hand lands on his chest. My mouth tips up to his.

I smell something odd, something acrid and primordial, and step back.

“What the hell is that?” he says, pulling away.

“I don’t know. It smells terrible. Like burning hair. Is something on fire?”

“Shh,” he says, straining, listening. All I hear is the air-conditioner. But no,
there it is. A thump. A creak. The unmistakable sound of footsteps.

Someone is in the house. Someone is upstairs in our house.

Jack bolts from my side, takes the stairs two at a time. I follow, just in time
to see the door to the attic is open.

“Get Gideon and Malcolm,” Jack shouts over his shoulder, throwing himself
headlong into the darkness. But I am frozen. My mind can’t process what’s
happening. I am cold with terror, the adrenaline rush forcing away my reason. I
can’t think. I can’t move.

A masked man bursts from the darkness above and launches himself down the
stairs. I am in his way, and he knocks me to the ground in his haste. I smash
backward into the wall, banging my head hard against the chair rail. Jack is
there a heartbeat later, calling for the Crows as he throws himself at the
intruder, arms out, a perfect flying tackle. They go down hard on the landing,
scuffling, locked in a deadly battle. Jack is the bigger man, he has the
leverage he needs to get an arm on the man’s windpipe, but the intruder is
quick, kicking out at Jack’s stomach until he connects and Jack is knocked off.

This gives the intruder the upper hand. He flips Jack onto his back, punching
wildly while reaching behind to his waistband. My mind registers the gun, and
the peril Jack is in, and without another thought, I kick the man’s arm just as
his fingers close around the gun’s grip. It spins away, clattering against the
baseboards. We lunge for it at the same time. I am closer. I get there first.

The shot is deafening.

The intruder falls to the floor at my feet, moaning, squirming. Blood pours from
his side. So much blood. The man bleeds and bleeds and bleeds until he is still.
I watch, fascinated, as a small trickle of crimson runs toward my bare foot.

Then Malcolm and Gideon are hoisting me to my feet, and the roaring in my head
overwhelms me.

• Mass Market Paperback: 400 pages
• Publisher:  Entangled: Amara  (February 9, 2021)
• ISBN-10: 1682815153
• ISBN-13: 978-1682815151

As owner of the most scandalous club in London, the last thing the notorious
Marquess of Roth wants is a wife. Keeping up his false reputation as a rake
brings in the clients with the deepest pockets―money he needs to fund a noble
cause. Even though everything inside tells him not to leave his beautiful,
innocent wife behind at his country estate…he must.

But three years later, tired of her scoundrel of a husband headlining the gossip
rags, Lady Isobel Vance decides enough is enough. She is no longer a fragile
kitten, but as the anonymous author of a women’s sexual advice column, she’s now
a roaring tigress…and she can use her claws.

Isobel decides to go to him in London, channeling her powers of seduction to
make him beg to take her back. But she didn’t expect her marauding marquess to
be equally hard to resist. Now the game is on to see who will give in to the
other first, with both sides determined like hell to win.

Each book in the Regency Rogues series is STANDALONE:
* The Beast of Beswick
* The Rakehell of Roth

MY THOUGHTS

Oh my god the steam.

The Rakehell of Roth, book 2 of The Everleigh Sisters series is one heck of a
historical romance. Winter, the Marquess of Roth needs a wife to secure his
inheritance, but he didn’t expect to fall in love with her. Needing to maintain
his false reputation as a rake to keep his clients at his club in London coming
back, he must leave his wife behind at his country estate.
Three years later, still married and without a visit from her scoundrel of a
husband, Lady Isobel Vance has had enough. Tired of seeing her husband
headlining the gossip rags, she decides to go to him in London to win him back.
Using the power of seduction she learned by authoring a very popular anonymous
sexual advice column she plans to channel her writing, but she didn’t expect her
husband to be just as seductive and hard to resist. Will she be able to win him
back?

This book…..
Romance…. check
Lots of steam…. check
Enticing plot….check
Satirical sexual advice…. check
Easy to devour in one sitting….check

This is one amazing romance read. Full of steam, romance, family drama, hidden
secrets and the most hilarious and satirical sexual advice, there’s no way I
can’t help but give it the highest of praise. If you are into steamy romances,
then I recommend this read be at the top of your list. Isobel and Winter are
alluring characters that you can’t help but fall in love with, and their sexual
encounters are salacious and sexy. With a plot line that is not what it seems,
it’s easy to ravage this read in one sitting. I absolutely loved it.
This is Book 2 in the Regency Rogues Series including the Everleigh Sisters but
can be read as a stand alone. The first book, The Beast of Beswick is one of
O-The Oprah Magazine’s Top 24 Best Historicals to Read, and I highly recommend
it as well.

Thank you to Amalie Howard, Entangled Publishing (a Macmillan imprint) and
TLCBookTours for the gifted copy of this book for my honest and unbiased
opinion.

EXCERPT

Winter cleared his tight throat. “Kendrick Abbey is much like Beswick Park, I
suppose. Rolling hills, manse, ornamental ponds, a lake, tenants, the usual.” He
waved an arm, guessing that she might share her sister’s penchant for horses.
“You can ride to your heart’s content.”

“I don’t care for horses.”

A frown creased his brow. “You don’t?”

“One threw me when I was a girl,” she explained with a pretty blush. “My sister
insisted I get back on, but I was much too timid. They frighten me, really. To
be honest, mounting such an enormous, powerful animal makes my pulse race.”

Winter stared at her, his frown deepening as his pulse kicked up a notch. Was
she being facetious? At his look, his wife bit her lip, and his stare swung to
that moistened, plump roll of flesh when she released it. Hell if he didn’t want
to taste it. Winter tore his gaze away and focused on the delicate slope of her
nose. Yes, that was a safe bet.

When had it gotten so hot in the carriage? It was bloody sweltering.

He tugged at his collar. “What do you enjoy doing, then?”

“I like balls,” she replied shyly, and the ones in his pants throbbed in
approval even though they had nothing to do with the event in question. “I liked
dancing with you at Lady Hammerton’s very much.”

“Did you?” His voice sounded choked, even to his own ears.

Nodding, Isobel’s tongue darted out to wet her lips, and Winter dug his fingers
into the bench. Everything she did and said was so artless and yet so deeply
erotic he felt it in his bones. Christ, he needed to get in control! Oblivious
to his deteriorating composure, she warmed to filling the silence with
conversation while he descended into silent torture.

“I also enjoy playing the pianoforte, though I’m not very adept, I’m afraid. My
sister accuses me of pounding the keys too hard at times.”

Oh, bloody hell, there was no way she didn’t know what she was doing to him with
those provocative words—mounting, balls, pounding—but her pretty face remained
earnest and sincere, not an ounce of artifice to be seen.

It was just him then, lost in the mire of obscenity.

Control, for the love of God, Roth.

“Anything else?” he managed politely. She brightened at his interest. “I enjoy
embroidery. It’s a wonderful, ladylike pastime. Though I do not enjoy getting
pricked.”

Winter made a strangled noise. It was no use. He was going to fucking die.

BOOK TOUR & REVIEW – CHANGE OF TIDES BY ASHLEY FARLEY

ABOUT CHANGE OF TIDES

• Paperback: 242 pages
• Publisher: Leisure Time Books (February 9, 2021)
• ISBN-13: 978-1735521268

A new southern series by bestselling author Ashley Farley.Birdie Fuller doesn’t
like change. And a lot of change is happening at once. Her daughter and
three-year-old grandson are moving out of her apartment to a nearby city. Will
Birdie be able to survive the loneliness without Hannah and Gus? She joins a
dating website to find companionship and meets the seemingly perfect man. But is
their relationship too good to be real? When the past comes back to haunt
Birdie, she struggles to maintain the sobriety she’s worked so hard to achieve?
While the beauty and wildlife of Palmetto Island provide inspiration for
Hannah’s creativity, she realizes that in order to grow her web design business,
she must move to a bigger city. But is she ready to leave the security of her
mother’s apartment? For three years, she’s been hiding out on the island,
avoiding contact with her son’s biological father. She never told Ryan about the
pregnancy. He doesn’t know about Gus. When Ryan shows up at Birdie’s cafe out of
the blue, Hannah’s world comes crashing down around her. Will she give Ryan
another chance? Or will another man steal her heart? Escape to the Lowcountry
for the first installment in the Palmetto Island series.

Be sure to download Muddy Bottom, the series’s novella prequel.

MY THOUGHTS

Ashley Farley’s writing is absolutely glorious. She has done it again with
another moving family life series that is unputdownable. I am anxiously
anticipating the third installment which comes out in May.

The series centers around Birdie Fuller, her daughter Hannah, and their life on
Palmetto Island.  Book 2 – Change of Tides delves into Birdie’s fear of being
alone when Hannah and her grandson Gus are planning to move. To preempt the
potential loneliness, she finally decides to explore the realm of online dating,
but becomes hampered when she experiences an unexpected surprise from her
estranged husband. Meanwhile Hannah is dealing with troubles of her own when the
father of Gus mysteriously shows up in town and tries to lay claim on his son.

Ashley weaves a captivating and emotional story with this one that is bubbling
with intrigue, charm and romance. It’s typical Ashley Farley writing, that has
you flying through the book yet hoping it never ends.

Now, it must be said that Change of Tides can certainly be read as a stand
alone, as can all of Ashley’s “series” books. But there is a prequel to this
novel, a novella called Muddy Bottom. Although you don’t HAVE to read it, I
highly recommend you do. Not only does it give backstory to Birdie and Hannah’s
stories, it’s just as suspenseful and charming as Change of Tides, its an
absolute page turner, and it makes reading book 2 even better (if you can
actually make any of Ashley’s books better). You can download the novella from
Amazon for free right now.

Both of these books are superb reading, and I highly recommend them both. If you
haven’t read any of Ashley’s books yet, I suggest you give them a try, I feel
sure she will become an auto-buy author for you just like she is for me. Both
Muddy Bottom and Change of Tides are 5 star reads for me, and when the 3rd
installment Lowcountry on my Mind comes out in May, I feel sure it will earn the
same praise.

Thank you to Ashley Farley,  Kate Rock from Kate Rock Book Tours and Leisure
Time Books for my gifted copy of this book for my honest and unbiased review.

REVIEW

Anything dogs, you know it’s for me, so you know I HAD to read Zara Stoneley’s
latest release.

The Dog Sitter is an adorable and fun read about Becky who really needs to get
away from her life after being both fired AND dumped by an absolutely wretched
boyfriend named Teddy. (Who frankly I’d like to punch after hearing the nasty
things he said to Becky. But I digress…)
Before Teddy, Becky used to do a ton of house sitting, allowing her to travel
and still work at her freelance job, so going back to that gig is the perfect
thing for her right now. When the opportunity to take a job in the beautiful
Lake District becomes available, you know she jumps at the chance. The best
thing is that this job includes dog sitting duties, and Becky LOVES dogs but is
unable to have one of her own because they are not allowed in her current
apartment.

When Becky arrives at her fresh new gig, she had no idea she was going to run
into the gorgeous hunk of a man Ash, but their first meeting doesn’t go so well
because he is insisting that the dog she is watching is his own. Insert
unexpected conflict/dilemma here. Little did she know her beautiful new set-up
was not going to be the relaxing job she envisioned. Of course, to be expected,
Becky and Ash develop a friendship, and you all can guess where this goes from
there, even though Becky has insisted she is off men for now.

This book is an absolute fun and fast read that I couldn’t put down. I finished
it in one sitting and was sad to say goodbye when I was done. It has everything
needed for a feel-good read: jilted girl, beautiful escape, sexy hot guy, quirky
drama, and an adorable dog named Bella with its own instagram account. What else
do you need? This was certainly a delight to read, and Zara Stoneley has got
another hit on her hands. Highly Recommend this one.

Thank you so much to Zara Stoneley, Rachel Gilbey from Rachels Random Resources,
One More Chapter, and Netgalley for my gifted copy of this book for my honest
and unbiased opinion.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Zara Stoneley is the USA Today bestselling author of The Wedding Date.

Born in a small village in the UK, she wanted to be a female James Herriot, a
spy, or an author when she grew up. After many (many) years, and many different
jobs, her dream of writing a bestseller came true.

She writes about friendship, dreams, love, and happy ever afters, and hopes that
her tales make you laugh a lot, cry a little, and occasionally say ‘ahhh’.

Zara now lives in a Cheshire village with her family, a lively cockapoo called
Harry, and a very bossy (and slightly evil) cat called Saffron.

Zara’s bestselling novels include ‘The First Date’, ‘Bridesmaids’, ‘No One
Cancels Christmas’, ‘The Wedding Date’, ‘The Holiday Swap’, ‘Summer with the
Country Village Vet’, ‘Blackberry Picking at Jasmine Cottage’ and the popular
Tippermere series – ‘Stable Mates’, ‘Country Affairs’ and ‘Country Rivals’.

BOOK TOUR & REVIEW – FOLLOWING YOU BY EVA LESKO NATIELLO

ABOUT FOLLOWING YOU

• Paperback: 317 pages
• Publisher: Fine Line Publishing (February 2, 2021)
• ISBN-13: 978-09982851

A fear-induced split-second decision goes terribly wrong, altering the fate of
three strangers.

It’s New Year’s Eve. Shae Wilmont, the adored celebrity host of IShop—a popular
shopping site—is ready to reclaim her life. Her stalker has been caught. But en
route to a party, a harrowing encounter lands her in the wrong place at the
wrong time. She panics. And trusts her gut. It’s a devastating mistake.

ONLY ONE PERSON KNOWS WHERE SHE ENDS UP. IT’S WHERE NO ONE CAN FIND HER.

Shae’s stunned fans quickly galvanize to track her down. Yet the charismatic
Shae they know, who delivers digital intimacy to viewers who’ll buy anything she
sells, off camera is an enigma—private and strangely insecure—unable to let
anyone get close. When startling personal secrets are exposed during the
investigation, the paradox of Shae begins to unravel.

In this dark psychological suspense, the lives of three strangers collide
irreversibly. Honey, a displaced Southern girl with a painful past, is fiercely
protective of her friends at the expense of her own safety, derailing her new
life in California. Creepy Lawrence, a Detective Bureau fast-tracker with a
penchant for latex gloves and a perverse obsession with Shae. And Shae, with
millions of fake friends but hardly a real one. All three are hiding something,
but only two of them are lying.

This suspenseful page-turner bares our assumptions of strangers. Who we believe
without judgment and who we judge without believing. A story about privilege,
family, identity, the need for belonging and the destruction caused by secrets.

How can you trust your instincts when they turn out to be wrong?

MY THOUGHTS

I just finished Following You by @evanatielo and boy my head is spinning. Talk
about having me turning the pages and in suspense.

The book starts out with alternating chapters from 3 different characters. It’s
kind of confusing at the beginning what each of these characters have in common
with each other, but once the story merges the tale becomes a page-turner.

There’s Shae, who is a famous host on a TV shopping channel, who most of the
story revolves around, she’s being stalked and is frightened for her life. Then
we have Honey, who works at a diner, has money troubles and a sick mom at home
and is trying to make ends meet. And then we have Lawrence, who is obsessed with
Shae, but seems to have some kind of connection with the investigation of her
stalker. All of these three stories suddenly merge together to a book that kept
me anxiously turning the pages to find out what the heck was going on and who
the stalker was. I finished it in one sitting and like I said, I am still
reeling after finishing.

This is Eva Natielo’s second novel and follow up to her successful 2014
psychological thriller The Memory Box. It was a fast read and certainly kept my
attention. If you like a book that keeps you guessing, this one is for you.

Thank you to Eve Lesko Natiello,  Kate Rock from Kate Rock Book Tours and Fine
Line Publishing for my gifted copy of this book for my honest and unbiased
opinion for review.

who seems to be stranded on the shelf.  Despairing of her own ability to find a

married at first sight.

destined to stay firmly on the shelf too. Perhaps it’s time his fate was taken
out of his hands…

Is happily-ever-after just about daring to take a chance, or do you need some
extra magic to make love last?

Join Beth Moran, Cooper and the Donovan sisters on
this life-affirming and uplifting tale of love, family, friendship, and risking
it all for happiness.

REVIEW

This is a wonderful family oriented rom-com that anyone with a large family can
totally relate to.  Light-hearted and fun, there is a little bit for everyone.

The story centers on Emma, the eldest of 5 girls, who is still unmarried and is
wondering if she will ever find her happy-ever-after.  Emma decides to sign up
for a project that finds a compatible mate and has you get married immediately
at first site.  Of course the rest of the family is a bit concerned about her
decision, and being from a big family with 4 other sisters, we are sure to hear
all about them, their lives and their opinions.  Then there is Cooper, who is in
love with the youngest sister Bridget, who is soon to get married.  Cooper has
his own doubts that he will find his forever love as he is still hung up on
Bridget, but he ends up signing up for the same compatibility project as well.
What happens next is a ton of family drama and an ending you never expected.

This was a delightful read that made me wish I had sisters and a big family.
It’s not just about romance, because most of it centered around the family, and
we learn a lot about each sister and the issues they have in their own lives.
This is a testament on how important it is to have family, no matter how much
you may disagree, and to never be afraid to take a chance. A sweet read and
another good one by Beth Moran.

Thank you so much to Beth Moran, Rachel Gilbey from Rachels Random Resources,
Boldwood Books, and Netgalley for my gifted copy of this book for my honest and
unbiased opinion.

Angeles with her band of trusty girlfriends, to find the carefree, wild and
adventurous Carly Cooper that she used to be.

marriage is worth saving or is there a new happy-ever-after out there, just
waiting for her…

REVIEW

The much anticipated sequel to What If? was released January 28, 2021 and it is
everything the hype made it out to be.

WHAT NOW? continues the tale of Carly Cooper (but can be read as a stand alone)
just 20 years later. After the epic search for her Mr. Right, she is now facing
an empty nest of 2 teenage boys with a potential divorce in sight. Life is
certainly very different than she expected after all this time, and she is
questioning herself and  “what now”?  Carly sets off to Los Angeles again with
her trusty band of girlfriends to try and find the girl she was 20 years ago. Is
her marriage worth the effort or is there a new happy-ever-after just around the
corner?

This sequel is just as fun, quirky and well written as I anticipated it to be.
We find a 40 something pre-menopausal Carly on the brink of divorce with 2
teenage boys, and just trying to figure herself out AGAIN. I totally related to
her experiences (both then and now) and had some laugh out loud moments along
with her. Lucky enough to have a squad of friends who persuade her to go off to
LA (again) to help her try and find her mojo (again) Carly and the girls give us
one heck of a crazy ride. It’s nice to see the progression of her character as
so many of us experience the same issues as we get older. This was everything I
wanted it to be and more. You just have to read it to find out where Carly ends
up.

I absolutely highly recommend this book and although it can be read as a stand
alone, it will be so much more of an experience for you if you read the first
book.  Without a doubt 5 stars.

Thank you so much to Shari Low, Rachel Gilbey from Rachels Random Resources,
Boldwood Books, and Netgalley for my gifted copy of this book for my honest and
unbiased opinion.
