NATIONAL NUTRITION MONTH REGIONAL FOOD BANK DRIVE

This month, from March 15 – April 6th, we are raising funds for the Regional
Foodbank of Oklahoma. Clicking the button above allows you to donate and when
the fundraiser is over, we will donate the final amount to the cause and share
with our members!

DECEMBER OCDDA MEETING

This speaker was originally scheduled for our September 2020 meeting but due to
technical issues was rescheduled. We will still be offering 8 CEUs for the year!

Topic: But I’m Eating Clean – The Relationship Between Common “Healthy” Diets
and Micronutrient Deficiencies
Details: This presentation focuses on “healthy lifestyle” ideals sold by clean
eating and other common diets, and juxtaposes these with the positive impact
convenience/processed foods can have on macro and micronutrient intake, food
safety, preparation time, price, and food sustainability.

Presenter: Kelsey Farnet, RD/LD
Topic: Dietetics in Entrepreneurship
Details: This months Speaker: Kelsey is originally from New Orleans and
currently resides in Edmond OK. She started her business in June of 2019 with
the idea that she could do more for her clients, create a better quality of life
for herself, increase her income, and create freely. Today, she has a spice
line, a nutrition coaching business, partners as an affiliate with a few
supplement companies, and a private chef client that all allow her variety and
flexibility in her day to day life. She believes that in the modern world, we
need dietitians speaking up to the general population and assuming the position
in the public eye as the true nutrition experts. She also believes that some
traits of entrepreneurs are applicable to the traditional work settings – like
leadership, innovation, communication, time management, and sales. She is
excited to share her passion for both dietetics and entrepreneurship with all of
you!

OCDDA MEMBERSHIP OPPORTUNITIES

OCDDA has two open board positions – Communications Chair & Treasurer-Elect.

These positions require minimal time commitment (~2 hours/month) with big
benefits such as gaining leadership experience, learning new & marketable
skills, and meeting other RDNs in the OKC area!

As Communications Chair, you will promote OCDDA meetings & events by updating
various communication channels (email, social media, website). If you are
tech-savvy with an interest in social media you will be a perfect fit!

As Treasurer-Elect, you will be in training to become Treasurer at the beginning
of the 2021-2022 OCDDA year. You will learn all the tricks of the trade (such as
creating budgets, keeping track of finances) from the amazing Mathea Ford, who
will set you up for success. If you like making spreadsheets, you will likely
excel at this position!

Whether you are a brand new RDN or seasoned professional, you are welcome to

2020-2021 PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

Greetings RDNs!
My name is Taylor Conner MS, RD, LD and I am your 2020-2021 OCDDA President.
I have been apart of OCDDA for a few years now and quickly realized the value of
this organization. This group not only provides members with a, might I say,
low-cost means of CEUs, but also a community. This community has allowed me to
meet many local dietitians and soon-to-be dietitians that have and continue to
help me grow in my professional and personal life.
I, along with the outstanding OCDDA board, are looking forward to a year where
we can continue to grow in this community. This coming year for OCDDA will be
unlike any other due to COVID-19. However, it is one that I believe will still
provide the value that I have appreciated since I joined. We plan to provide
members with live meetings, but on an online format, for at least the first half
of the year. You can keep up to date with our CEU events and other information
by joining our Facebook group “Oklahoma City District Dietetic Association” or
by visiting this website. I hope that you join in on this fantastic organization
this year!
