University's Elliott School of International Affairs on October 14, 2022. 


KIDS EURO FEST: EVEN MICE BELONG IN HEAVEN

The Embassy of the Czech Republic presented the beautifully animated film "Even
Mice Go to Heaven" directed by Denisa Grimmová and Jan Bubeníček as part of the
European Union in the United States Kid Euro Fest! 


TALK: THE TRANSATLANTIC BATTLEFRONT OF VOSKOVEC AND WERICH

The Czech Embassy welcomed expert sound archivist Filip Šír from the National
Museum in Prague on September 28. Before a very interested and engaged audience,
he gave a talk on The Transatlantic Battlefront of Voskovec and Werich, which
featured radio recordings. 
 


FITNESS CHALLENGE

The Czech Embassy's outside space turned into a training facility with DC’s
leading personal trainer and fitness specialist, Czech-American Tomas Trnka, on
October 21 as part of the Embassy's focus on sports diplomacy. 


BOOK TALK: THE INVESTIGATOR - DEMONS OF THE BALKAN WAR

Retired Czech Commissioner Vladimir Dzuro shared his personal account of
investigating war crimes during his book talk "The Investigator: Demons of the
Balkan War" on September 19 at the Czech Embassy.


BOOK TALK: RECOVERING FACE & THE POLITICS OF JOKING

The Czech Embassy hosted a book talk with author and esteemed cultural
anthropologist Dr. Jana Kopelent-Rehak on September 16.  In discussing her
books, Recovering Face and The Politics of Joking, Dr. Kopelent-Rehak spoke
about the stories of men and women who survived Czechoslovakian concentration
camps under the Communist regime. She then presented on how humor has provided a
space for coping and the restoration of human dignity.


FESTIVAL LAUNCHED FOR THE 13TH YEAR IN A ROW!

Czech Ambassador Miloslav Stašek launched the Mutual Inspirations Festival 2022-
Voskovec & Werich on the evening of September 6, 2022. He spoke about the
significance of transatlantic ties and mutual inspirations. Cultural Attaché Jan
Woska then talked about the festival, which is in its 13th year, and this year’s
personalities of comic and playwright genius. 


A NOTE FROM THE AMBASSADOR

The arts are back. After the long pause caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, I am
optimistic that this year will see a revival of the arts worldwide. At the Czech
Embassy, we hope to be part of this boom by taking inspiration from two of the
most renowned Czech playwrights, comedians, and performers of intellectual
humor, Jiří Voskovec and Jan Werich.
 
The Mutual Inspirations Festival 2022 – Voskovec & Werich will build upon legacy
as well as today’s thirst to see and experience art, theater, film, and dance.
Voskovec and Werich are the embodiment of artistic success on either side of the
Atlantic, which we hope inspires new collaborations and enriches the arts. We
look forward to seeing you at our events!
