Working with Historic Environment Scotland, the local community and experts in archaeology and archaeoastronomy, we unlock the complex narratives of the landscape and reveal the stories of Calanais’ prehistoric ancestors. In doing so, we protect the area’s cherished Neolithic past and contribute to a flourishing Hebridean present. A MISSION TO PROTECT The Trust has a mission to research, document and manage the historic environment for the benefit of our visitors, the local community and future generations. A VISITOR CENTRE FOR THE FUTURE CALANAIS WELCOMES YOU SUPPORT OUR WORK Over the years the Calanais Visitor Centre has been a warm and welcoming place to visit. The centre is currently closed in preparation for redevelopment. We hope to reopen sometime in 2025 with a much improved facility. We understand that this is not an ideal situation, and we genuinely regret any disruption this may cause to your plans. However, we are excited at the prospect of being able to offer all our visitors a much improved experience once the new centre reopens and appreciate your understanding and cooperation during the current limitations. During the redevelopment Urras nan Tursachan will continue our partnership with Historic Environment Scotland to preserve, document and celebrate this stunning site. Please note: 1. The Calanais Visitor Centre is currently closed in preparation for redevelopment with plans to reopen sometime in 2025. During the construction phase there will be limited parking. We apologise for any inconvenience. 2. At some point in Autumn 2024 we expect the stones will be closed to the public as Historic Environment Scotland (HES) plan to do conservation work.
