The X30 floater was installed at PLOCAN, Canary Islands, with a Vestas V29
turbine adapted to downwind, under the scope of the PivotBuoy Project.

CONCEPT DEVELOPMENT

The concept was ideated in 2012 by Carlos Casanovas, CTO and co-founder, while
at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

COMPANY LAUNCH & PATENT FILING

Co-founders Alex Raventos and Carlos Casanovas launched the company in 2017 and
filed the technology’s first patent. The company obtained several prizes and
recognitions from prestigious organizations such as Innoenergy and Singularity
University.

PROOF OF CONCEPT & VALIDATION

To validate the technology, two tank tests have been conducted with successful
results. The first one (2018) was on CIEMLAB wave flume in UPC, Barcelona with a
1:64 scale model, and the second one (2019) in the Hydrodynamic and Ocean
Engineering tank of ECN, Nantes with a 1:50 scale model through the MariNET2
Programme.

X30: SCALE-PROTOTYPE IN THE CANARIES

The PivotBuoy Project, funded by the H2020 program, have validated our
technology through the installation and operation in real conditions of a
part-scale prototype in Gran Canaria.

X1 ACCELERATOR

X1 Wind is currently working on the design and certification of its first
commercial-scale product, the X90 platform for turbines in the 5-6MW range
through the EU-funded X1 ACCELERATOR Project.
