Our objective is to propose models, methods and tools in order to improve acquisition, modelling, querying, reasoning and visualization in Spatial and Temporal IS. These scientific concerns fall are at the confluence of many disciplines among which Computer Science and Geography are prominent, in what is more broadly called Geographic Information Science or Geomatics. Since September 2017, Marlène Villanova-Oliver is the leader of the team. She succeeds Paule-Annick Davoine (January 2015 to August 2017) and Jérôme Gensel (November 2010 to December 2014). In the last decade, tremendous advances in various technologies (wireless networks, mobile devices, global positioning systems…) have considerably enlarged the scope of applications involving Spatial and Temporal Information. These mutations, combined with the tremendous increase of data available (both due to the generalization of mobile devices and sensors, and to OpenData initiatives) have led to substantial changes in the way geomatics and GIS must be thought. STeamer’s research, focused on the thematic of representing and reasoning with spatial and temporal information, takes place in this evolving technological and scientific context. Research in STeamer is organized along three complementary axes: 1. Spatial and Temporal Semantic Web; 2. Mobility, Context-Awareness and Social Choice; 3. Spatial and Temporal Analysis and Visualization. Different major application domains, spatial analysis, natural hazard prevention, digital humanities are targeted by most of the scientific collaborations we’re involved in; they provide us with concrete problems that are tackled in the three axes. Since January 1, 2021, our group welcomes members from the previous HAwAI (HAwAI Human Aware Artificial Intelligence) team.
