PEOPLE, PARKS, AND POWER: A NATIONAL INITIATIVE FOR GREEN SPACE, HEALTH EQUITY,
AND RACIAL JUSTICE

People, Parks, and Power (P3) is a joint effort of the Robert Wood Johnson
Foundation(link is external) and the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation(link is
external), led and managed by Prevention Institute. P3 will support
community-based organizations and base-building groups working in urban,
low-income communities of color across the United States to increase park equity
through local policy and systems change.


CALL FOR PROPOSALS

The $7 million P3 Call for Proposals is now open. Letters of intent are due by
November 4, 2021.






WHAT IS PARK EQUITY?

Park equity is the fair and just distribution of parks and green spaces, such
that all communities have access to these health-promoting resources.






PEOPLE, PARKS, AND POWER THEORY OF CHANGE

This theory of change describes the approach of People, Parks, and Power: A
National Initiative for Green Space, Health Equity, and Racial Justice.






CORE PRINCIPLES AND VALUES

People and power drive policy and systems change. P3 will support
community-driven solutions to advance park equity, health equity, and racial
justice.






OUR FUNDERS

People, Parks, and Power: A National Initiative for Green Space, Health Equity,
and Racial Justice is a joint effort of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and
the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation, led and managed by Prevention Institute.





“Change comes from organizing and power-building; in that regard P3 breaks new
ground. It’s the first national funding initiative that supports community-based
organizations to build power for local policy change to eliminate the deplorable
park and green space inequities found in urban African American and Latino
communities across the U.S. This new investment recognizes just how crucial
low-income communities of color are to moving the needle toward equity on issues
central to environmental, health, and racial justice.”

–Manuel Pastor, PhD, director of the University of Southern California’s Equity
