THE PERFECT PLACE FOR ANYONE LOOKING TO LEAVE THE CITY BEHIND. If you can imagine relaxing and unwinding on the deck of your own private rustic cottage, taking in stunning views, sitting back and enjoying the peace and tranquility of a bush setting or perhaps sipping a glass of fine Hunter Valley wine and doing nothing but soaking up the peace and serenity. Then a visit to Hunter River Retreat is a must! Hunter River Retreat is located in the Hunter Valley on 110acres of Mountainside and approx. 2 ½ hours from Sydney, 15 minutes to the Historic towns of Maitland, Morpeth and Paterson. There are also Boutique wineries close by and the heart of the Hunter Valley Vineyards only a 30-minute drive away, through beautiful unspoilt countryside. This is an ideal location to base yourself to explore the Hunter Valley Vineyards, Morpeth, Maitland and other local areas. ON THE 110 ACRE PROPERTY, WILDLIFE ROAMS FREELY Our visitors have been known to see Wallabies, Wallaroos, Kangaroos, Goannas, Mountain Lizards, Possums, Echidnas, Gliders, Crimson Rosellas, Black Cockatoos, Wrens, Native Pigeons, Kookaburras and the odd Wedge-Tail Eagles soaring high above. Hunter River Retreat is also home to “Smoky”, our resident horse. He is very partial to an apple or carrot or 2! Our Scottish Highlander cows “Molly & Murphy” also love to be fed, or meet and pat our new miniature donkeys or perhaps collect some eggs from our resident chickens. WE ALSO HAVE 10 ACRES OF RIVER FRONTAGE FOR YOU TO EXPLORE ALONG Take a walk and explore Hunter River Retreat on our bushwalking trails. A short walk or drive up the mountain brings you to a picnic area with breathtaking views which is a beautiful spot to have a sunset/sunrise picnic with a loved one or if you are full of energy you can also climb to the top of the mountain through the bush.
