It is well known that crude oil is used in the production of PET bottles. But
only in very small quantities and exclusively for newly produced bottles.
Conversely, this means that the more bottles that are recycled, the more
sustainable the plastic that is reused over the course of many recycling
processes. If we also take the CO₂ savings during transportation into account as
well as the lower emissions compared to glass during recycling, the sustainable
potential is even clearer. In this case, it not only relates to the material
itself, but also to the way we handle it.

The huge potential of recycling.

The fact is, we all produce too much waste and also consume too many resources.
So the obvious solution is to reuse things and not discard them carelessly. PET
in particular offers many advantages because it can be recycled so easily. This
makes it all the more important that we all ensure that plastic does not end up
in the environment, but is recycled properly. In this way, the climate footprint
of PET bottles, which is already very good, can be further improved by a closed
cycle.

A winning process; benefits of the cycle.

Used PET bottles are a valuable material and are anything but waste. This is
because PET becomes recycled PET (rPET), which in turn becomes new bottles again
and again and again – for as long as they remain in the cycle. This saves
resources and reduces greenhouse gas emissions by 90 per cent. So, even in a
small way, each of us can contribute to climate protection by purchasing rPET
bottles and disposing of and recycling them properly after use.
