Kyle Henry’s ’26 family loves art. I guess you could say it’s in his blood. His
grandfather was an art preparator for @guggenheim and his grandmother worked at
@metmuseum, both in New York City 🗽

That appreciation for art was passed onto Kyle, who now studies art history in
A&S and works at the @suartmuseum. One reason he likes working at the museum is
the ability to engage with professors about art outside of the classroom. And of
course, access to lots of art too 🖼️

Kyle is a work-study student at the museum, which is just one way he’s able to
help subsidize his education expenses. He’s also received several other awards
and scholarships based on need and merit.

💬 “This isn’t my money, so that encourages me to work even harder."

Working in the art museum, Kyle gets to witness firsthand donations of a
different kind.

💬 “The museum is a huge donor hotspot. Most of the pieces are either given by
former students or people who have connections to Syracuse.”

These types of donations influence his academics and enrich his overall
experience, inspiring him in his art history classes. He’s hopeful to receive
another scholarship, which would help him study abroad with @syracuseuflorence
next year. Taken together, all these contributions—financial and
educational—tell Henry he’s a valued member of the campus community, and he’s
forever grateful ✈️

💬 “Thank you to the generous donors for building the Syracuse community. You’ve
inspired other alumni to give, and you’ve helped make the campus a great place."

💬 “Throughout this whole experience, I realized that there are opportunities in
art history, especially within Indigenous art. This project exposed me to a
different history that is not often taught in schools, and I feel more informed
about my culture.” - Charlotte Dupree ‘25

A&S student Charlotte Dupree (Akwesasne Mohawk Nation) and @su_vpa student Eiza
Capton (Cayuga Nation) reflect upon their experience assembling the art
exhibition, “Continuity, Innovation and Resistance: The Art of Peter B. Jones,”

From an early age, fairy tales like Snow White and Cinderella enter our lives
and shape our view of the world. But young children aren’t the only ones who can
benefit from fairy tales. They can be useful for college students too 🧚

In the latest installment of our #CoolClass feature, we spoke with
@syracuseenglish professor Mona Awad about what makes her Art of the Fairy Tale
class so popular and what fairy tales can teach students about creative writing
✍️

💬 "These are stories that we've been hearing since we were kids. We read them
and we see the Disney versions. They are part of the fabric of our lives and so
when you give students fairy tales they realize, 'Oh my gosh, I know stories, I
know how to do this.'"

Learn more about what Awad's Art of the Fairy Tale class entails and how
students are prepared to write their own fairy tale - 🔗 in bio.
