In early March 2023 commemoration events took place in cities across North
Eastern Greece to honour the 80th anniversary from the arrest and deportation of
the region’s Jewish communities by the Bulgarian occupation forces in 1943.Р
For the first time Greek dignitaries, foreign diplomats and local Jewish
organisations were joined in the city of Kavala by a few dozen visitors from
Bulgaria, who came to pay tribute to the victims of their own government in
March 1943.
