This shocking revelation came after Powell had been indicted alongside Trump and 18 other co-defendants in August. Powell’s plea came just days before her trial was scheduled to commence. She had previously demanded a speedy trial, which separated her case from all other co-defendants except for attorney Kenneth Chesebro, who had also demanded a swift trial. The guilty plea comes on the heels of several unsuccessful attempts by Powell to have the charges against her dismissed. Fulton County Superior Court Judge Scott McAfee rejected these bids, leading Powell to become the second defendant to accept a plea deal under Georgia’s First Defender Act. The Act allows first-time offenders in Georgia to avoid a conviction in certain circumstances, with the court withholding adjudication. As part of her plea deal, Powell pleaded guilty to six counts of “conspiracy to commit intentional interference with election duties.” This plea deal comes with severe restrictions. Powell must not communicate with co-defendants, witnesses, or the media until all cases have been closed. She has also agreed to testify truthfully in all trials for co-defendants, pay a fine of $6,000, and make restitution to the state of Georgia totaling $2,700. Additionally, Powell must pen an apology letter to the citizens of Georgia. The prosecutorial team led by Fulton County Executive District Attorney Daysha Young presented a damning case against Powell. According to Young, Powell, along with several co-conspirators, conspired to interfere with the performance of election duties. These alleged offenses included tampering with electronic ballot markers and tabulating machines, unlawfully possessing official ballots outside the polling place, and unauthorized use of a computer to access and remove voting data. Many are questioning the fairness of this outcome, asking if only Democrats are permitted to question elections. Critics argue that individuals like Powell are being forced into plea deals to avoid bankruptcy and total life destruction at the hands of a powerful cabal. They see this as a death knell for the Republic and the Bill of Rights, signaling a dangerous erosion of democratic freedoms.
