MOLD IS COMMON IN INDOOR AND OUTDOOR ENVIRONMENTS AND PLAYS A KEY ROLE IN
BREAKING DOWN ORGANIC MATTER. HOWEVER, SOME MOLDS CAN BE HARMFUL TO HEALTH,
ESPECIALLY WHEN THEY GROW INDOORS AND PRODUCE ALLERGENS OR TOXIC SUBSTANCES
KNOWN AS MYCOTOXINS. DID YOU KNOW PENICILLIN IS CREATED FROM MOLD?

FUNGUS

Yes, mold is a type of fungus. It consists of multicellular filaments called
hyphae, which form a network called mycelium. Molds thrive in damp, warm, and
humid environments, and they reproduce by releasing spores that can spread
through the air. They play a role in the natural decomposition process by
breaking down organic matter, but some mold growth in streams, lakes, ponds
homes and buildings can cause health issues and damage skin cells. Parasites can
leave behind waste. The waste products of parasites can sometimes cause symptoms
or contribute to the disease process in the host. For example, the waste
produced by certain parasites can lead to irritation, allergic reactions, or
even more severe health issues, depending on the type of parasite and the host's
overall health.
