NO-COST FLU SHOT OPTIONS FOR VETERANS



Flu season is here, and getting your flu shot has never been easier. Remember
that getting vaccinated is the best way to protect yourself, as well as your
loved ones, against the flu virus. This year, enrolled Veterans of the VA health
care system have several options to get a flu shot. VA now offers more options,
easy access, and seamless records. And the best thing is that your VA medical
record, as well as your VA Blue Button, will be automatically updated.

Call 911 WHEN YOU CAN, TEXT 911 ONLY IF YOU CAN'T





 
Broward County launched an enhanced 911 system that features “Text to 911”
capability. This helps those in our community who are deaf, hard of hearing, or
speech impaired. It may also be helpful in situations when placing a voice call
could put you in further danger – as in a home invasion or abduction.

 
However, it’s important to know: Always call 911 if you can, text only if you
can’t. 
Here are a few reasons why:
 
 * When texting, your location will NOT automatically be transmitted to 911; you
   must type your exact location/address or first responders will be unable to
   find you;

 
 * As you have likely experienced in your day-to-day communications, text
   messages may be delayed or not received at all;

 
 * Text communication takes longer than placing a phone call;

 
 * Language translation is NOT available using text;

 
 * You must have a text or data plan to use the service;


Remember: ALWAYS CALL 911 IF YOU CAN, TEXT ONLY IF YOU CAN’T
 
 
If you feel that texting is your only option, be sure to use plain and clear
language (no emojis, abbreviations, slang, or links). Keep in mind that there is
a 160-character limit per text. Photos and videos will NOT transmit. You must
also be prepared to respond to text messages from 911 until they have all of the
information they need.

Since our charter in 1997, our American Legion Post has been welcoming VETERANS
from all branches of our Armed Forces. Today, we continue to welcome all
military personnel serving our country. Joining our Post enables you to continue
serving your God, Country and Community. Our mission is to implement the goals,
aspirations, dreams, peace and blessings for our country, friends and families
embodied in our preamble below.
